Winning is always better than losing. Always. You can still fire a coach. Look at Marty in SD. Where they messed up was hiring Norv. A better decision at that point and maybe they have a Super Bowl. But you can still fire a coach.

How Joe philbin addresses the team and the media is entirely different. They're different audiences. His job isn't to impress you with charisma and bavado at the podium. And there isn't any evidence to suggest that he's lost his players and/or they don't respond to him.

Philbin went 7-9 with a rookie QB who started his career in the NFL after only 16 collegiate starts. He went 8-8 with an offensive line that couldn't block wind. Ireland's prized free agent Mike Wallace was a total dude. Dropping passes, poor route running, and a refusal to fight for balls. Despite it all, he had Miami beating and competing with playoff contenders until the last two weeks. Those final two weeks, blame can spread around quite easily, despite the narrative that it's all Joe Philbin's fault.

Suggesting Joe Philbin can't command respect and attention of the players is entirely made up, by you.

It is easy to trust him right now because he is really the only option the Dolphins have at the starting QB position. Every other QB on the roster is no better than a backup.

The real question is, will you still have as much trust in him as the Dolphins QB if the Dolphins once again fail to have a winning season in 2014? There aren't a lot of starting QB's around in the NFL who went three straight seasons in the NFL and never led their team to a winning record. To me, this is a do or die year for Tannehill as the starting QB for the Dolphins. Get them into the playoffs and he proves himself. Another 500 season or below and the new HC next year will most likely be looking to draft a new QB of the future for this team.

My problem isn't with Philbin expressing confidence in the team. That is standard procedure for every single head coach in the NFL, so it is what I expect him to say.

My problem with Philbin is I just don't think he is a good NFL head coach. I didn't think he would be a good head coach when they hired him and after two years as the Dolphins HC, I still don't think he is a good NFL HC.

I just hope Ross does a much better job hiring the next HC, which I anticipate will be hired after the 2014 season is concluded . I am also sure that this new HC will be making the required positive statements about the team prior to the start of training camp next year. That is merely what NFL coaches do.

Gawd damn, whaddya expect? The first day of camp and our All Pro pass rushing freak of nature is schooling the rookie RT. The horror.

That's not the answer dude...he's plenty good enough at his job to make the post-season and have success there.

Musical-chair-QB'ing isn't very fun. We've got a good guy, we need to support him, particularly with a decent O-line. Finding a QB with the incredible talent to overcome our 2013 O-line, scheme and play-calling and reach deep into the playoffs is beyond hard-as-hell to do. Only guy that comes to mind that could've pulled it off would be Rodgers. And who knows if this year will be any better? Tannehill could stay even with his last year's performance, and if the O-line, scheme, and run game advanced to at least average...they're likely a wildcard. I'd put several players/coaches ahead of Tannehill in the "responsible for the record" department.

Hell, the 1982 Dolphins that lost in the Super Bowl to the Foreskins had the LOWEST rated passing game in the entire league...David Woodley FFS. I'm not saying that's the bar, I'm merely pointing out that there is WAY more to a team succeeding than the QB, and ours isn't the drawback of this team. His part of the mix is more than covered IMO.

the middle of your first post sounds not like national perception though, it sounds like your personal opnion and like i replied already no matter what went wrong last year, they almost made the playoffs.

yeah the finish was heartbreaking, but this team had a chance to make it after all what happened to them during the season, with that oline disaster on and off the field, an underwhelming production from our rookie class because of injuries, a LB group that did not play well....i wouldn't put anything on tannehill for what happened last season, not after what this SOB went through and still raised his performance from year 1

There's something different about Philbin this year. In a good way. It's hard to put a finger on it but he seems much more sure of himself now. More confident and comfortable. Kind of like he's finally understanding what he needs to do and how to do it.

Look I'm not a huge Philbin fan but year one was the year we set the bar for progress and I'd say we improved year two. Year three hasn't happened yet so I find this over critical.

Like I said I'm not sold on him but lets see what happens.

Is it just me or is this ranking stuff just a complete drama contest between journalists. The rotten apple effect in our oline seems to have more to do with rankings than what the team actually left on the field.

There was 7 teams that finished 8-8, Green Bay, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Jets, Steelers, in that order for draft picks. Miami getting the 19th pick in the draft. I would put down 10k against this PFT guy that Miami finishes closer to 15-20 over his 31 all day long.

Looking at the over all wins for the season the UGLY I see is a nasty thought Buffalo had 6 wins, 2 from Miami. Without Miami playing them they could have easily been a 4 win season.

It's possible that he's responded well to being forced to fire Mike Sherman and take the training wheels off so to speak, but we'll see I suppose.

A). Are you really surprised, that at this point, that Cameron Wake, one of the best pass rushers in the league, is giving James, a ROOKIE, a hard time?

B). Let's talk when Dallas Thomas becomes the starter, which I don't believe he will be.

C). Shelley Smith never played a down as a center, ever. Of course his snaps are going to be crisp and clean.

Look, I'm not going to go ahead and crown them yet, if at all. But, perspective please?

I couldn't agree more with this. We'll hear the same ol' "Defense is always ahead of the offense in training camp" when our offense flutters in most practices and in pre season. Yet, we're continually ranked in the lower third of the league offensively.

You play how you practice. That's certainly been the case with us. So, when mid-August rolls around and we continue to hear about dysfunction on offense, it will most likely mean that there will be dysfunction on offense in September. Don't be surprised.

    I'm hoping Lazor has answers.

And **** the bed against inferior opponents. The whole thing should have been blown apart.

The only reason we we 8-8 is because of Ryan Tannehill. If Matt Moore was starting this team goes 3-13.

Yep, if we could look in on say the Saints practices, or the Patsies, I'd bet 100 dollars the same things are not happening

"And the center rolled the ball to Drew Brees"

    Uhm, no

I'm really NOT trying to be overtly negative, however when I hear things I've heard before and seen the results I've seen

Philbin needs to put a lid on that **** and quickly, there is a standard and if a player is not meeting it bench their *** and get someone in their place who can get the job done

As for James, one must admit it would be better to be hearing "James stoned Wake on that pass play"

    THAT is the standard..period

Or, a better explanation is why should anyone give a flying **** about some nitwit reporter and idiotic analysis, that also stated they *could* be a playoff team than proceeded to rank them below teams like the Browns, Lions, Jets, Bills, Jaguars, Vikings and a host of other pathetic teams?

I'd love to hear it, too. I really do. But, at the same time, James is STILL a rookie. At this present time, I don't think anyone should be surprised nor discouraged that he's getting outworked by Wake. Give him time. He has all camp to learn by blocking Cameron. Now, if there's no improvement....
