http://www.thephinsider.com/2014/7/...ning-camp-scouting-reports-rb-damien-williams Man, how sweet it would be to strike some gold with this kid and he turns out to be something special? We certainly could use some help at RB. Can we get that lucky???
Stranger things have happened...like a certain 6th round QB that's been in our face for many years. We may have burned our luck on Cam Wake though.
There was nothing lucky about Wake. You could not get a more sure thing then when we nabbed him. Let me rephrase that: Wake easily projected better then almost any rookie....especially a 6th rounder.
You don't get holes the size of a large truck in the NFL. That being said, I am always hopeful that we have some diamonds in the ruff on our team. It is going to be hard to get this team down to 53 with no Pouncey and questions at RB and other areas. I hope our depth at WR does not suffer because of it. It is funny that I always complained over the last few years because we couldn't throw the ball. We were pretty good at running it. Last year we sucked at both. I'm sure we are all waiting anxiously to see what Lazor is about or it is back to the drawing board. I'm sure I will get blasted by saying to this point that Matt Moore probably would have won us more games than T-hill. Obviously he has upside, but I'm not sold on him. I'm also not going to make excuses for the guy.
IMO, the position that has the best chance of making the team as a rookie free agent is runningback. The only runningback that I think is a lock to make the team is Miller.
Watching this kid run here in Oklahoma was exciting. One thing you will notice all the announcers saying (a lot) when he runs is "big hole". Did you see that block on his 95 yard run vs Texas.. Holy ****! STFU!!!! Instant woody! Seriously doubt it but I'll go with it..
watching that first highlight video, those running lanes were huge. what's he going to do behind our sub-par Oline?
I know a lot of folks don't want to hear this but one thing Daniel Thomas does have is great cutting ability, especially the one cut movement, he played in a zone scheme in college, and is now playing in a pure one this season, I expect to see that particular part of his skillset make in impact in the scheme.
Do we have room to keep Mike G?... Moreno, Miller and Thomas, I don't think we kept four last year...maybe Thigpen was the fourth.
It's time to give up on DT. He's been here for three seasons and his high ypc is 3.7. He has 1,300 yards over three years. Time to raise the bar. We've had 40 games to learn that he's not a good pro running back, and I think it's time to accept that. The fact that fans keep projecting success for this guy is kind of nuts, imo.
But... but... he had that one good run vs. the Steelers! Championship. If Miami wanted Shady McCoy, we missed the boat on drafting Seastrunk.
I see Williams as another Miller, only not as fast. I also think that any RB is college could have been just as effective as Williams if they had the huge holes he had on the runs in the in the highlight film. I think his best chance of making the roster is if he can beat out Thigpen for the spot as the returner on special teams. More than likely he probably won't make the final 53 roster and maybe he will be signed to the practice squad after he clears waivers.
I feel the same way. Runs into his line a lot and doesn't exhibit a lot of patience (from what's available to watch). Orleans Darkwa is a much more intriguing UDFA and looks like a much better natural runner.
I am pulling for Orleans Darkwa, if not for any other reason, his name. lol. Great name. However, I have actually watched him play and he is under the radar in my view. I am wondering if Miami will consider signing Shead, the kid from SMU.
