Bosh is gonna have big numbers now. Look at his history without Lebron the last 4 years.

Bosh is more clutch than Lebron, in my opinion.

Buzzer beater shots, I believe Bosh has Lebron beat by a good number.

hmm, had not seen Bosh takeover games, have seen DW just decide "enough is enough" and make plays

that kinda went away over the last couple of seasons

Im still not gonna kid myself and say Id prefer the ball in Bosh's hands at the end of the game than LeBron... But that being said, Im still hyped that Bosh chose to come back after all this. Respect completely earned. Just hope he can get back in the rhythm of those good ol days that we're now expecting.

thing is, DW used to step on the gas and just cut through defenders to get that key hoop

There are reasons why he used to be called "Darkwing"

Im not discounting DW at all... Love Wade, really got into NBA when he was drafted. But Im not gonna flip to the other side of the table and pretend that LeBron isnt the greatest player of my generation so far... whether he pulled a ***** move or not.

True, I'm salty about Lebron but he is the greatest player, Kevin Durant about to take over the league soon and what better place to do that in? That's right, Miami ;)

Indeed, he is not MJ, he is more Magic Johnson, he makes guys around him better, thing is even with Wade and Bosh, he was 2 and 2 in Miami, let us not make him something he was and is not.

2 HoF players on his team, he lost as much as he won in the finals in Miami

3 HoF players if Ray Allen is included

I was too young to appreciate MJ/Magic/etc.. Its hard to appreciate the greats of the game outside of numbers, its like visually comparing Czonka to AP haha

How will the Heat fare in 2014-15?

    • Miss playoffs
    • Lose in first round of playoffs
    • Lose in second round or later

What kind of bogus poll is this? What if we win the whole thing? Sportsnation, you suck!

Also frustrating, if LeBron let them know earlier, they could have made a run at some of the top FAs that went off the board quickly like Lowry and Gortat, and would have probably had a better shot to land Isaiah Thomas.

He's not villified. You're being extreme. Most criticisms come from his game: he's a scorer who doesn't make those around him better.

Ill ne honest....I don't like all this banking on 2016. I trust Riley but there is no guarantee we get any of the big names. Though I'm glad we are still trying to win now.

Should be interesting to see what Riley can add from here.

It's not so much banking on 2016. It's competing while being flexible. That's the name of the game.

It made no sense to simply tank for two years. That would be banking on 2016. We will remain relevant, might even be really good, and keep ourselves in the forefront as a destination for free agents. As the cap continues to rise, we will also have trade flexibility as we'll be below the luxury tax the next two years

His defense was better last year then it's ever been. He even showed *gasp* glimpses of being very good on defense. Shouldering an entire offensive load (I believe he had the highest % of his teams points of any one player in the league) can be tiresome though. Especially when you're carrying Felton's lard butt.

We still can do some things.

Cole's salary is hanging out there as a nice tradeable piece. Depending on what wade and Haslem actually take in the 1st year, we can free up some room for either a signing or a trade.

We have options. That's all we can ask for right now.

When the dust settles, I think people will have a great appreciation of how Pat Riley and this organization got back off the mat immediately after receiving an unexpected punch to the gut and kick to the groin.

Think about where we were Friday at 3:00 p.m. LeBron had sent out his "essay" a/k/a bullcrap, Houston was moving heaven and Earth to get Bosh and reports were that they were close, Chicago was trying to sneak in and poach Wade.

Now less than 72 hours later, we have Bosh/Wade and Luol Deng, plus every piece of our previous core back that we wanted back (except that one guy, of course). It's remarkable. And makes You Know Who's decision all the more painful. Wade and Bosh would have sacrificed to get this exact team here, plus LeBron and we would have won a championship.

But so be it. This organization has earned our faith and is proving it again, right now.

They're not putting all their eggs in 2016. Doing that would be tanking now and preparing for 2016. What the Heat is doing is setting a team to compete in the present, while also retaining flexibility and planning for the future. It is damn smart and visionary.

There was also no guaranteed that in 2010 they would get all 3 of Lebron, Wade and Bosh, still the Heat planned for their books to be clean by that summer.

They are doing it better now. Still assembling an extremely competitive team, yet keeping the versatility for that summer.

You could certainly see his defensive intensity pick up last season. Was it every night? No. But when you have to carry the offensive load alone every single night, its hard to maintain that intensity.

I don't see it as banking on 2016. I see it as having flexibility. The only big name I may have pursued was Bledsoe. Other than that we have a team I expect will be among the top four in the East.

I find myself defending Melo way more than I want to lol.

I think he's a top 3 scoring threat in the NBA. His defensive laps are predicated more on how much offense he's counted on to carry than ability IMO. I don't think he would ever be great on that side of the floor but I think he had the physical tools to be much better if he wasn't offensive option 1,2, and 3 on his team.

Melo, like any other superstar, gets dinged for not having a title. With a title a superstar's weaknesses are at least somewhat forgiven. W/o a title those weaknesses are magnified. I see Kobe as a slightly better player than Melo, but mostly Kobe had the benefit of playing his whole career with a great organization on many great teams. If Kobe had been in Denver and then NY, I imagine he would have been primarily seen as a selfish player who doesn't make his team mates better and only plays defense when he wants to.

IMO We are clearly banking on 2016 to be an elite team. I'm not saying I dislike our moves but its pretty clear to me we are simply making them to still look attractive to players in 2 years.

I don't think we're banking on 2016 that to the extent we banked on 2010, in that we eschewed moves in the run up to that free agency that would have improved the team in order to retain maximum flexibility.

As you might recall, we passed on Stoudemire at both trade deadlines prior to the 2010 off seasons and turned down other free agent moves as well.

If something comes up, and say LMA or Marc Gasol become available in trade this year, I'm sure we'll explore it. I don't think we're Durant or bust.

I guess to be fair....there isn't much more we can even do this offseason we haven't done. I'm glad we have a chance to compete and maybe even make a finals appearance before then. I'm just hoping that if 2016 doesn't bring us a big name we have alternate plans.

Need Ennis and Napier to develop and hit on a lower pick in 2015. If we get some good youth, it will not only help us in the short term, but can also facilitate trades.

We have a ton of very tradeable contracts next year, if the need arises, plus our full complement of picks after we gift Cleveland the 20th pick or so next year.

I don't see it that way. I think schmolioot hit it on the head with his comments. They're staying flexible while setting themselves up to go big in 2016. It's not just Durant who'll be available that year either. And if you strike out in 2016, so stay flexible for 2017 when guys like Blake Griffin and Russell Westbrook are FAs. There's also the option of making a trade for a guy (maybe someone who's about to be a FA that plans to leave similar to Love's situation).

It's not like they're giving up though, they'll have a very competitive team. And it's also not like they're passing on the chance to be elite in the coming two years. If they had a chance to be elite, they'd have taken it.

I'm honestly just really looking forward to next season.

Beyond the simple fact that next year's team deserves our support, it will be nice to watch a season without every game being a referendum on the worthiness of LeBron James or the Big 3 era. And it will also be nice to see a team that actually will have to care about the seedings and not lazily sleep walk through games against Utah, Sacramento, etc.
