Those two have essentially identical numbers. I hate his personality too very annoying, but I'd take him every day all day. Brees 7.5 ypa, 65.9 completion %, 5.3% TD, 2.6% INT, QBR 95.3 Rivers 7.9 ypa, 64.4% completion % (so he has bigger plays than Brees), 5.9% TD, 2.5% INT, QBR 96. You'd say no thanks to that? Those are career numbers for both. Their recent year numbers are slightly better. He played well in the playoffs too (slow start in Denver however doomed them). We can only pray and hope Tannehill reaches his level of play.
Lol. Um, that would be your boy Russell Wilson. Give Rivers the #1 total D, scoring D, Turnover D, best field position, best special teams, and an elite back to hand off to. He'd be counting his rings and making reservations for Canton.
Yeah, umm, I'd keep Tannehill level of play if it meant I kept my nuts. Although Tupac did okay with one nut until he was killed.
What I like about him is his fast release and confidence. Sounds like another QB we used to know. I'd like to see RT show some of that fire, and believe we'll slowly see more of it this year.
He was getting murdered the two years before, being called post-prime, yet still played pretty dang good They got a better scheme, slightly better line (but not much) and he throws up a 105 qbr year. 4,500 yards, 8.2 ypa, 2.0% INT, 32 TDs, and an league best 69.5% completion percentage.
They watched him blow the 2 years prior? I think he's good but has always been overrated on these boards, imo.
And damn near as many turnovers as TDs in both years. I'm not getting drawn in to the elite QB **** but there's probably 10-15 QBs I'd want before Rivers.
Keenan Allen was heads above any of our pass-catchers and I doubt anyone's OL was as bad as ours last year. I disagree, he's overrated. He's good but that's about it, imo.
Yup, I'll take that honor in calling him my boy, seeing that if it was me doing the aquiring he'd be our Qb.
Apparently Ladanian Tomlinson (uhhhh first ballot hall of famer)... Antonio gates (uhhhh first ballot hall of famer) Darren Sproiles ( pro bowl weapon) all in their primes, for a long time, wasn't enough for rivers to get it done. GM, if he couldn't come close to getting it done with that, for that long, for the hype I hear about this dude, he's overrated..
I actually remember him holding the ball for too long. IIRC, that's why he had so many fumbles for those 2 years. Allen was still so much better than any of our individual WRs. The sick thing is too that I'm pretty sure Royal had more TDs than any of our pass-catchers as well. Probably more than at least a few combined.
I got a question for Tannehill...how's it feel to be ranked 23rd when you're realistically MUCH higher? PFF rated 7th, top 10 in statistical categories, etc etc. Don't give me that "but he's only 15-17" BS either...the TEAM lost 17 games...and he is no where NEAR the weak link on this team. You'd have to be seriously deranged to think those 17 are all squarely on him. He's outperforming his paycheck...how many others could say that, rookie contract or not (*cough* Wallace...*cough cough* Ellerbe and Wheeler). Lack of chemistry or not, if Wallace catches that ball against Carolina, we're likely not having these types of conversations...one player on that play performed in the clutch. His first game in the league was a train wreck, his last 2 weren't anything to write home about either, but he's developed well overall, particularly considering the constraints he had to work within. Brady a Tier 1 QB last year...wtf ever...he's declining...his stats weren't but a hair better than Tannehill's, yet RT's in a way lower Tier and rated 23rd. Put Brady behind our line, with our running game, and within the limits that seem to have been placed on Tannehill, and he wouldn't get anything resembling those stats he got last year...he'd be on a stretcher. He'd cry so damn hard he'd have an aneurism, retire, and sue the NFL and the Dolphins for PTSD. It's a well known fact that you smack Brady a few times, his whole game is off...can't say the same for RT. It's like each super bowl ring gives you +7 in the rankings all by themselves, no matter how long ago they were. How many has he won in the past decade? Deep playoff runs don't seem to count for a whole lot if you don't win the whole enchilada...ask Buffalo, hell, ask Marino! I'm not saying RT is the messiah, or destined for HoF 1st ballot induction, but as it stands today, I fully believe Tannehill will have a better "individual" year than Brady in 2014, and will in all likelihood be rated lower. A ton of things could happen between now and then...the wheels could fall off and the new system could fail, the OL could not gel, and Lazor could be clueless how to fix anything...which would pretty much make that impossible, but all that would somehow become Tannehill's fault for not making those around him better. Gimme a break.
You can't play that game, seeing as Peyton's only won one his whole career and that's because his defense bailed him out the first two games of the postseason that year. Without Bob Sanders, Peyton's probably still ringless. That's with Edge, Reggie and Marvin Harrison for all of those years. He's overrated too. As someone who lives in San Diego you have to understand how bad coaching has held them back, as well as lack of discipline. They win that playoff game against New England if their players had any discipline. 4th down and one of their players commit a personal foul after the whistle. Keeps that drive alive. After that, Marlon McCree intercepts Tom Brady and instead of going down, tries to run it back. Troy Brown, coached by a good coach, goes and strips it from him. Afterwards McCree says he wouldn't change a thing. That was probably their year, the year they peaked. Schottenheimer has never gotten it done in the playoffs and that game illustrates why. Then after that you have Norv. He made the playoffs the first four years starting, even hitting the AFCG his second year starting (and ran into the 18-1 Patriots). Russell Wilson is good real good but half the starting QBs would have a chance at a ring with that Defense. 14pts per game man. The lowest scoring offense the Jags probably go 8-8 with that defense.
Phillip rivers is a fine Qb when he has time to throw, when playoffs start and the pocket becomes constricted, you need a Qb that can make plays..rivers cannot do so, he also loses a ton of arm strength when he cannot wind up and follow thru with his unorthodox delivery.
Ive always thought of Rivers as a 2nd tier QB, along with Romo, Ben, Eli, etc. Guys who could win it all w/ the help of a top defense and run game. If anyone is saying he's a top tier QB then yeah he's overrated but I honestly having seen anyone claiming that. I also think this is the year that RT joins that 2nd tier conversation...
He's been a bit uneven but he's played well in the playoffs. Wilson didn't throw for more than 215 yards all post-season. The Superbowl is full of QBs who cannot make plays on their feet. It's as if Joe Flacco didn't even happen the year before. And oh by the way the Ravens did not have a top shelf defense that year, and weren't in the top 10 for yards rushing per game or ypc. Eli Manning. Drew Brees. These are not "playmakers" with their feet in the mold of Russell and Big Ben.
