It looks promising for these two players who are basically changing positions.Lets hope they continue to progress .Those are two positions where we need an upgrade.

When they actually put on pads and start blocking against opposing defenses and Thomas looks good next to Albert, that is when I'll buy into Thomas being a starting guard in the NFL. Until that time comes, I think Thomas is still a HUGE question mark as an offensive lineman in the NFL. I just keep remembering how over matched he appeared against NFL defensive linemen in the preseason last year.

I think it's a good move for Misi career wise. I felt he was decent on the corner but not a great OLB. I actually think he can be an excellent ILB. Aside from that, I don't think there's much doubt, imo, he's the best ILB on the team.

I hope Turner competes well in camp and pushes Thomas. But, to make them both better. I actually would hope that Thomas would be stronger and better this year. He has some talent and if he can become a better player (stronger, smarter, etc.) and start - more power to him. It really is going to be what they do in pads. Always a difference.

I don't know why there is this underlying skepticism that Dallas Thomas might contribute. Because he couldn't get on the field his rookie year? That's hardly a damning indictment of his career prospects.

The offensive line from a talent perspective is night and day from a year ago. Hearing that there's an open competition between two young guys is good. I personally think Turner will be needed to play LT at some point cause Albert never stays healthy, so I'm hoping Dallas Thomas emerges. Overall though, 58 sacks should be a thing of the past.

His point about trying to learn too many positions is something I've pointed out earlier. You got to figure out where a rookie OL goes right off the bat and stick with it until he's 100% comfortable before moving him around.

I believe the pessimism stems from him not beating out the absolute trash we started last season. I read somewhere that Thomas was battling injuries though so that would help to explain his low snap count last season.

I'm not skeptical of the news, really. I believe he looks good and hope he starts. It takes a while for mid-round rookies, obviously. That said...I was a little surprised he wasn't getting more work after the bye or at least by week 8. I mean...our OLine was freaking terrible at that point, in upheaval, and this kid couldn't crack the lineup. I hear where the skeptics are coming from is all.

It's not fair to judge him on last year. He was coming off a February shoulder injury so couldn't have been working out much if at all leading up to training camp. He could not have been 100% strength wise during training camp.

I agree with you on some level, would of like to of seen him bite as a pup, but, He's a slow learner to boot I think combined with the injury, probabaly losing a lot of strength, which probably derailed his confidence, sometimes when these athletes get injured and know that they aren't at their physical peak they shut down kind of.

Any hoo, he's got real comp from a rookie that has confidence and his strength so will see if he can hold on to the spot, it's why I love preseason pass, study that sh&$ and see who should win.

probably has to do with the fact that he was drafted by this era's Matt Millen. the list of OL he took outside of the 1st round is U-G-L-Y.

Contrary to a published report, the Dolphins' Koa Misi said he never complained about being asked to move to middle linebacker and is excited about it.

You mean.............the press was WRONG? Get out........

Besides the injury, they did a whole lot of shifting around in TC of the oline. They knew the line talent was crap and were trying to find the best combo they could. Due to that, Thomas was an injured rookie and the majority of camp work he got was at multiple positions.

I know its vogue to **** on the everything and everyone that has anything to do with the current team, but this one shouldn't be that big of a mystery.

A tonne of negativity around the team atm, the worst I've seen it in a long long time.

Young Qb, looks to be a solid Defense, added Moreno and Albert, granted two likely rookie starters on the OL is not awesome to contemplate..then again compared to the hot steaming cow patty we saw on the OL last yr, that should be a cause for hope not negativity.

WORST case scenario is we start James and Turner or Thomas at LG all three unproven players still..it's not like we are hoping Trent Green can manage to get the ball to Chris Chambers or Chad Henne somehow can make it work with Brandon Marshall

    Padre,
This time lat year there was a lot of positivity about the team. Adding Wallace, trading up to #3 overall, expecting Tannehill to step up. Then we got the worst OL since the 'phins were an expansion team. People aren't drinking the kool aid this years after last year's batch.

If we expected the phins to be 4-12 last year and they went 8-8 then people would be excited, I think many people are worried that it will take longer to fix the OL than one season.

Hmm, have seen far more marginal teams fielded then the 2014 squads' roster.

Objectively, we lost Soiai..that is about it..the OL's performance was pretty much a circular firing squad ordeal, meaning adding two rookie starters at RT and LG is not the end of the world for a team that went 8-8 and is pretty much intact.

Albert for Martin/McKinnie? No way that is not an unpgrade for the roster.

there are things like THill to Wallace down the field that have to happen before they are bought into, still though, from that pov Caleb Sturgis's slump can be argued to have cost us as many games as that misfiring combination

I'm on the record as saying last year that 2013 should be a learning year and 2014 should be the year we crack the playoffs. This year I'm just worried that 2 important parts of our team - OL collectively and LB collectively have too many question marks for me to expect the team to be playoff contender. The arrow on the team is up, but It wouldn't surprise me if we have another year of struggle before the upswing happens.

Ellerbe did not have a good yr last yr, and the 4-3 de-emphasizes Lb play, in that sense losing Big Paul may be a bigger problem then we realize atm. To me, Albert at LT, Turner or Thomas at LG and James at RT should be fine, if anything the running game should improve

Real problem is, imo is momentum, can Clay continue to improve? Wallace to THill improve? Is Miller the real deal? #3 Wr is wide open in that sense, no Fb again, THill in a new offensive system can he implement it or will he and Lazor not be on the same page?

Can Rizzi's ST unit snap back into 2012 form?

Rookies start on the OL all over the league, we have bigger fish to fry if the team is going to the next level

Is that 4-6 months recovery until he can start working with the arm, or is that when he should have been back at full strength. When I had heart surgery, it was six to eight weeks before they wanted me to do more than walk around in the house - and another two months before I could start with a rehab to get to where I could begin to move easily and without worrying. Getting my strength back took a while longer... Maybe KB has some insight!

No, a rookie not contributing(even behind bad veterans) shouldn't be a sign the player is bad. It's a thing that occurs.

I think if Dallas Thomas wins the LG, which he should have been practicing at all last year, is a huge win for us. If he can come in and be strong at POA, he adds some much needed athleticism to the guard position. The next thing I'm hoping for is if Thomas starts pulling ahead that we move Turner to RG. I like Smith but I like Turner more. Tuner and Thomas at the guard spots would be such a huge upgrade athletically I think I would explode.
