While we're on the subject: It's the start of an outstanding unit but I think St Louis's front 7 is getting wayyy too much credit. *ducks from barrage of Fin-O girl slaps*

DE Eugene Sims [out of position on the left side] -- DT Matt Conrath -- DT Michael Brockers -- DE Michael Johnson

This quartet combined for just 12 sacks and is about to lose a 4th quarter game for St Louis b/c it couldn't apply pressure on a paper cut to save its life while Quinn & Suh are too gassed to be on the field and Aldon Smith is too suspended to be on it. But this is allegedly what the best front 7 of the league looks like? Here's the Rams D-line:

    DE
    Robert Quinn $3,002,380
    Michael Johnson $16,900,000
    Eugene Sims $1,216,684

    DT
    Ndamukong Suh $11,000,000
    Michael Brockers $2,596,909
    Matt Conrath $572,000

Is this Madden Football with injuries and stamina turned off so the aforementioned nightmare never has to happen with only 1 backup at DE and DT? Who drops dead first of heat stroke? The real St Louis reserve D-linemen saw 1187 snaps last year, so either all those snaps are going to 6th round Sims [5 sacks in 5 years] and undrafted Conrath [7 tackles in 2 years] or the Rams are running their starters ragged to where they're gassed in the 4th quarter and at risk of injury.

Not to mention, Michael Johnson had 3.5 sacks last year, and all of St Louis's pass rushers are right side only guys. So who plays left end? I'm guessing it's Johnson by default who is lackluster vs the run on the weakside but will now be a starting strong side end? How will this unit stop the run, especially without a backup NT to rotate with Brockers? How will Aldon Smith, a 3-4 rightside OLB edge defender, perform as a traditional 4-3 SAM off the LOS since the 7-tech Michael Johnson is incapability of playing Justin Smith's closed end role that occupies blockers, protects Aldon, and allows Aldon to play the edge? Who subs in for Brockers and/or Suh in nickel?

Well I pretty much said such with my poor year joke. Also, stated a couple pages back that there was only 2 categories I would have voted myself on (free agent steal and secondary). No fire there ;p Same time though your not aware of the work behind the scenes. I'm noticing quite well the votes I'm getting for it are from those I routinely dealt with...where as those teams I haven't or barely had.....aren't. Little more broader approach and who knows lol.

I should thank Todd for the second plac vote and write up, next year I should let him do my final roster write up.

I actually really wish all our teams could play eachother. There would be some really exciting ganes going on.

BK's Jets. I gave him my 1st place vote and surprisingly it's the only vote he received. I think he had the best overall combination of draft, FA, and trades and felt he did a better job with what he was given than anyone else even though his end product might not look quite as impressive on paper as some other teams who started off with a bigger silver spoon. Plus I look at it as: there's a finite amount of top QBs and top QB draft picks to go around, so I try not to penalize GMs for not landing one, especially if their team is one that would benefit greater from building up a roster.

I like what you did with your resources- adding a vet QB, giving him some weapons to put up some points, and then focusing on building a pressuring defense and establishing a great defensive strength rather than distributing resources evenly and possibly costing yourself your defensive strength in the process.

305's Oline was grossly under-credited IMO, and it annoyed me to be honest.

My offense has seemed like a major afterthought when I felt it should've at least been mentioned a few times, but it's not something I lost sleep over.

I thought Seabass did a surprisingly good job with Baltimore for a 19 year old rookie. Early on I thought he might be in the process of slaughtering the Ravens, in need of some guidance, and was starting to feel bad for his team.... but then a few months later I look at it and it's come together quite nicely. He build a very functional team and with players that matched well with each other and with the schemes, and I give big props for a young GM maturely focusing attention on the trenches like he did rather than the glitz and glamour positions. True to Baltimore form, he built arguably the most physical team that will leave opponents worn out and needing extra time in the ice bath. He built a team that can run it down your throat, eat up clock, and then bust big plays in playaction to Justin Hunter, Jacoby Jones, and Dwayne Allen.... all while having a defense capable of shutting down the run and putting offenses in consistent 3rd and longs. Gave him heavy consideration for ROY and was close to giving him a 3rd place vote for GMOY. He's a great pass rusher and impact receiver away from being a yearly SB contender.

A few GMs who didn't submit final rosters did a really good job, so it's a shame they couldn't be mentioned here.

Rotoworld just reminded me Daryl Washington is facing a stiff suspension for choking out his baby mama and breaking her collar bone.
Perhaps St Louis's "acclaimed" front 7 should be nominated for most suspended front 7 instead? :shifty:

So I really do wish I'd written more about a few of my lesser known players in my write up. I was hasty to get it posted, I know I signed a few guys I really like that I knew almost nothing about going into this and stumbled upon while doing research. I wouldn't expect others to like them on paper either without being alerted.

Also think if you count cuts as FA I could have garnered a nomination there. Though my Levi Brown contract disqualifies me in my own mind.

My entire goal of this was to build a team that could work. In other words..you build towards certain strengths that compliment eachother. I think my team will have a tough time playing teams that grind it out with great defense and a great running game. Teams that can keep my offense down and run the ball would be a huge challenge.

I also wanted to build a team with players who all served a specific purpose. For instance Gates is a receiving TE (old as he may be), Myers is an all around guy, Stephens is a blocker. I tried my best to find guys with skill sets that compliment eachother at every position. However it obviously is very hard to fill your entire roster that way. I really wish I'd done a bit more at HB and LB but otherwise I'm very happy with my team.

Also while I may not have had many draft picks, I'm fairly happy with my draft. I needed athletic LB's and was able to land Kirksey and Barrow. I needed a huge body at NT for 3-4 looks and landed my favorite NT prospect in McCullers. Then added final depth late in Shaw.

Write all the books you want, your rant wreaks of jealousy. You toss around that "out of position" BS way too freely....Michael Johnson isn't going to stop being one of the best all around DE's because he moved to the left side too think so is stupid. Hey, for all you know he may break the NFL sack record on the left side.

Aldon Smith is a physical specimen who would thrive in any pass rushing situation....oh wait? He's only good because of Justin Smith, get the FK outta here.

Suh only a base 4-3 guy?? Your speckle of credibility just vanished.

But I know something about you, you went to Cranbrook that's a private school. Also, be careful...I have a legitimate offense all the way around. I have a top level RB and QB, you are pinning your hopes on a QB who lacks accuracy and Christine Michael....say that again, Christine Michael. Now, I know you will write a 21,000 character reply of WHY Christine Michael is the next Jim Brown. You took a QB who was a caretaker and took away his biggest crutch...nice job.

Your front seven is all name recognition and draft hopefuls, you have Wake and Miller wich while close...doesn't compare to Quinn and Aldon Smith. (Both 24yrs old) oh yea, then we have Suh, Michael Johnson, Daryl Washington and Alec Ogltree. Who do you have that compares? Star Lablahblahblah has been decent but no more than a solid starter then you are basing your foundation on rookies....who may or may not pan out.

I won't let your moronic ways cloud my thinking that you did a fantastic job, but your barking up the wrong tree when it comes to my team. I took a team with minimal talent and a lot of question marks at key positions(QB) and filled them. You did a good job but traded away some important pieces...

I like my team better and I started with much less, frankly I think I deserved more GMOY votes then you...but you've always been good at writing BS.

Honestly I think the truth is between what both of you posted. He has a point about depth, but you do have a point as well. I thought you did a really good job this year FWIW and landing Rodgers was enough to make you a legitimate threat in the NFC.

However I do think your D-Line depth was an issue and you'd probably have taken my #3 vote from Boik14 if you'd done more there. I mean...I feel like while you may have bigger names and better starting LB's....I wouldn't trade our front seven units because of depth.

Just giving my two cents. You did a great job but I feel like if everyone here is honest with eachother it just makes the league better next season because we will all improve.

Next season I really want to start with a QB I can trust. Not doing that this year made me freak out and rush into trading for Flacco when I could have gotten him for way less IMO and then move Flacco for a guy I liked slightly better and was cheaper.

What are some of your guys concerns with my eagles team? I felt this was the best team I put together. I felt I had the best overall offense with a pretty good defense I think my front 7 is young and versatile. I do admit to doing a poor job with my secondary although I thought my drafting of Baptiste and Roberson helped that unit some. I was hoping a good safety tandem would help a weak CB unit.

I thought you had the best overall team, you didn't auction off any key players and you acquired Chandler Jones. Unless someone dislikes CKap, no reason they shouldn't LOVE your team.

Next year I'm thinking I want to take over Jacksonville so I can have my boy Bortles.

I've never really taken over a bottom feeder team, I'm usually always taking a team in the tier below super bowl contenders range (eagles, Bengals '13, Giants '12).

Taking a ****ty team will be a whole new challenge that I'm ready to try.

Well I'm not a fan of Kaep but he fits your system and has great weapons so that is a non-issue for me. My biggest issue is that while your defense has a lot of star potential there are also some unknowns.

There were a few teams I felt terrible about leaving out for GMOY. The talent accumulation was excellent by a couple of teams but other teams took over harder situations and I gave more credence to that. GMOY isnt about who had the best team to me but who did the most with what they were given. How did you use the assets you had and how many assets you had as opposed to the end result by itself. I know Oakland didnt have the best team, but they used the bullets they had very well. My assets were mainly overpaid ex pro bowl guys like Troy Polamalu, Woodley, Timmons etc that I had to do something with despite absurd cap numbers. Even if I dont win the award I found the year rewarding because I knew it was going to be a challenge and I executed my game plan which was to get younger, better and not have to cut anyone good because of their cap number (Levi Brown is not good Alex!)

Blah that was my only regret of the entire GM League. I could have added another very solid player...possibly at LB which I consider my weakest unit (even though I dont think they are bad). However at the very least I have veteran depth behind two young tackles, one with injury history. Levi is my #4 tackle so I could do worse...the salary though.

Also I agree with the bold. It's not about awards. Personally all I wanted to do was build a team I'd feel as a fan had a chance week in and week out. I feel I did that, and I worked really hard and pulled long hours to do it. So I'm 100% satisfied.

Here are my thoughts from when I was looking over your team.

Firstly, I recall thinking early on that your team was the one that posed the greatest threat as you came out the gates like gangbusters. But then I think you lost yourself a little bit. I mean- you brought in some solid players, but in doing so it seems like you somewhat compromised the identity of the team, namely on defense.

The moment you traded for Chander Jones, rather forcing him into a 3-4, I think you would've been better off letting the defense unfold organically and immediately following up the trade with a public statement informing us you're switching to a 4-3 or at least a 4-3 over/under so that Jones can stay at end where he fits best and b/c you still had plenty of personnel that fit a 4-3. Plus you're thin at DT/5-tech, so a 4-3 would've allowed you get by with fewer big bodies up front and with a stronger, fresher rotation. With Fletcher Cox & Mike Neal, you have 2 guys who can play the closed end role in a 4-3 under/over which would allow Dion Jordan to play the hybrid OLB position next to them, and if you wanna be multiple and mix in traditional 4-3 packages, Jordan can move up to end.

I felt you allocated resources too heavily at WR, TE, and LB at the expense of DT/5-tech and secondary, and I thought that if you had switched to a 4-3, it would've allowed you to use some of those linebacker resources where it was more needed. The last thing that bruised you was misjudging the corner market in FA just like I did, and it prevented you from landing the premium players you set out for and subsequently forced you to overpay for Tarrell Brown & Cary Williams, both of whom are coming off down years IIRC.

If this were based on talent acquisition alone, I'd probably hand you the trophy, but I think you could've done a better job of both making everything fit and allocating resources. Plus you had an opportunity to nail down your secondary in the first round but you went with your emotions instead and drafted Mike Evans who I think will have less of an impact on your already-loaded offense than Justin Gilbert would have on a corner-needy defense. I personally thought your offense was lights out even before Evans was drafted. So yeah, I would've liked to have seen a switch to a 4-3 [or keeping the 3-4 and not trading for Jones], Mike Evans become a trade back for Justin Gilbert, and some of that linebacker depth becomes either a stud D-lineman or improved D-line depth.

I could be wrong but I think what hurt most is the fact there were fewer active GMs this year which made it difficult for one team to really stand out among the rest b/c with fewer GMs bidding in FA and actively trading, it allowed more GMs than normal to establish stronger rosters, and thus more difficult to distinguish them from each other.

Some of this is stuff I mentioned when I did my short analysis of his team earlier so I agree about a lot of it. His skill players are a force to be reckoned with but I dont love the OL and QB. I like his players on D, but I agree I dont know that it fits. Its a great collection of talent though.

I am running a 4-3 defense with some 3-4 mixed in. Maybe I didn't make that clear enough in my write up which would be on me then. When I was working on my defense I was collecting players I like and then I was going to adjust the scheme to fit them (which is what a D coordinator should do imo).

As for Gilbert vs Evans I don't think Gilbert is an elite player the way Evans has the potential to be. If I'm drafting a CB in the top 10 he needs to be a slam dunk. If I swapped out Evans for a 3rd round WR I don't think a WR corps of Dez, Maclin, Cooper, Rookie gives me the elite offense the way Evans does.

Originally my plan was to get Newton to run Chips offense but when I was able to get Kaep at what I felt was a very good price I decided to go that route instead

There's no case numbnuts. You have catastrophic D-line depth. Everyone will be tossing cookies. They'll be gassed in the 4th quarter and during long drives, which will happen frequently b/c they can't stop the run, and that's exactly what opposing offenses will be salivating about in order to keep Aaron Rodgers off the field. Your situational football ability is ugly, including short yardage and nickel, and you have no control over who will or won't be on the field in specific situations because you've got only 6 defensive lineman handling all the damn snaps and situations. Even if you wanted your LONE THREE big guys on the field together in short yardage, you won't have the fresh bodies to make it happen. Ditto for nickel where you have no sub-package rushers and no viable backup rushers with Quinn grabbing air.

Michael Johnson is not a strong side DE no matter how badly you wanna magically make it happen. He'll have tire marks across his back in the run game, yet people are voting for your front 7 as if you kept him on the weakside where he's only suited.

Aldon Smith & Daryl Washington are facing stiff suspensions. Even without the suspension, Aldon is a RIGHT SIDE EDGE DEFENDER, yet you have him in a scheme that by default makes him a traditional 4-3 SAM who plays off the LOS thanks to Michael Johnson's inability to handle the 5-tech duties that would allow Aldon to remain the rush OLB you desperately want him to be. It ain't happening dude. It's a car wreck, yet people are voting for your front 7 as if you kept him in the role where he thrives. You blew your wad on Michael Johnson rather than a stud 5-tech like Lamar Houston or Arthur Jones who would've allowed Aldon to continue his rush linebacker role.

So you've got no depth, no situational ability, two liabilities thanks to being played out of position, two impending suspensions, and can't stop the run. But congratulations on the "big name signings".

For me it gets confusing b/c of all the starting caliber linebackers you added and b/c you have Cox, Thornton, and Neal listed at "DE" and Chandler Jones and Trent Cole listed at "OLB" which lends the impression you're a 3-4 first and foremost.

I agree, your offense might not have been perceived in the same super elite manner without Mike Evans, and you might've lost a few "best offense" and "best offensive weapons" votes, but on the other hand you might've earned more GMOY votes instead. I agree that Evans is a better prospect than Gilbert, but I don't think his net positive would be a strong for your already loaded offense as Gilbert would be for your defense which could benefit greatly from a top cover corner. Just my 2 cents. Still think you did a heck of a job, but from my perspective it seemed like you were more concerned with creating the best offense than creating the best overall team.

Too bad you have him as a traditional, non pass rushing 4-3 OLB you opposite of a genius. Learn about schemes and personnel fits. If Michael Johnson is your edge defender, which he is, then Aldon Smith can't be an edge defender in base D as well, dummy.

So congratulations, you're paying Michael Johnson $16.9 million to get his butt handed to him as a strong side end in base D who hits the bench in nickel so that Aldon can finally rush the QB. Brilliant! You could've gotten gotten Corey Wootton as be a FAR BETTER 2 down SDE for $16 million less.... and at least he can move inside in nickel.

yeah, he'll only be a base guy in essence..... because he'll be too f***ing tired to handle pass rush duties since you have no depth/rotation to keep him fresh, which I stated quite clearly.

AGAIN, THIS. AINT. MADDEN. You've got 6 defensive linemen rostered dude. SIX. No strong side DE at all [except for the one you're forcing there- Johnson], no 5-tech for flexibility, no sub package interior nickel rushers, no package for short yardage run-stuffing, and your two backups are just that- backups.

I didn't add my draft picks, copy pasted roster since I had a hectic week. But since the jealousy bug bit you and you are trying to dissect my front seven because it's better than yours. I will remind you that I can have 7 pass rushers on the field at all times when your rb is CHRISTINE MICHAEL! !

Your voted the league's biggest A--hat for a reason I suppose. How's about you just EAD and next year dont trade away your proven stars for hopeful rookies. #freeadvice #EAD
