You don't replace or phase out equipment after you are taking a loss. Depreciation is factored in yearly and you can identify what needs to be done to keep a business at a desired level of profitability. As we've discussed on here ad nauseum....Sun Life Stadium is past due on it needing heavy renovations/replacement. You don't wait until the company starts breaking even to replace it. That is how people lose their jobs.
He obviously doesn't need the initial investment from the taxpayer and clearly never did, since he is now willing to finance the deal 100% privately. Nothing changed other than he realized the county was actually standing firm for once against stadium extortion. This deal sounds okay and I would probably support it once I see the details.
He might not make a huge profit margin, but with the NFL revenue sharing, it's almost impossible for Ross to take a loss. And beyond that, SunLife is providing that many jobs. It's seasonal/temporary employment. Jobs created by the team/stadium events are nowhere near worth the kinds of investments cities put into this stuff
Please pick more progressive people and industries that contribute actual economic substance next time. Think along the lines of Bill Gates, Steve Case, Marc Andreessen, Ted Leonsis, etc. Thanks in advance.
He explicitly said that renovations were necessary for Super Bowls and other events ( soccer, college bowls etc...).
Because he is part of a cartel, and has to hold up his end of the bargain. Stephen Ross isn't profiting from a new stadium. The entities that are profiting are the other 31 owners and the city of Miami.
Please please please please please please please please please please please please Please please please please please please please please please please please please move to Palm Beach.
goodell's nfl needs LA to be vacant in order for owners to use it as a threat. IMO ross will privately build a new stadium in FLA before a team moves to LA. And ross ain't buliding a new stadium.
So you want our owner to linger close to the breaking even line or taking a loss? He's still a businessman. I lived in Ohio for several years and saw the product that cheapskate Mike Brown put on the field. The pros in this deal far outweigh the cons.
He's going to get those events even if they pay the renovations back or not because he's making money off them too. And even more if the city pays. You can try and spin it as not being a reimbursement if you want, If their stupid enough to do it - like I've always said, if you don't ask you don't get.
I don't even understand the whole Palm Beach bandwagon here, Sun Life is at the tri county area, considering traffic from where I live in Kendall all the way to 33056 or 33055 I think Miami Gardens is that is an hour drive without traffic and it's Miami, there will be traffic, so add on 20 minutes. It's the same drive for Palm Beach residents to Sun Life. Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale both share equal amount of blame as Miami residents do as far as attendance goes. If the stadium gets located to Palm Beach, it will be even emptier than it has been the past 15 years or so without Marino. And besides, they aren't going to move, and Miami Gardens will not let go of their biggest taxpayer, this is all a negotiating period between Ross and Miami Gardens and Miami Gardens will try to meet Ross halfway.
