You wouldn't sacrifice two games for John Harbaugh, potentially? I'm sorry but if I had a crystal ball and knew we'd have another 8-8 season, I'd easily trade two extra wins for a top-notch coach.
I do think Phlbin is on the hot seat tbh, and when I look at the offseason, we did not add any real playmakers, 2 Tackles who will start and Delmas. We will need a string of events breaking our way to top 8 wins, which our recent history has shown, we rarely have events break our way or the team up it's overall level of play Sturgis missed what, 3 GW or Tying Fg's in 2013, or about what Carpenter missed in 2012 Tannehill missed Wallace on X number of deep passes that would have been housed Henne missed Marshall on X number of Td passes It's very consistent, not sure what the Organization lacks, do know it's been like this since 09
Don't forget all the touchdown passes Marshall dropped or that weird one where he just ran out of bounds.
Same here, optimism may not be there for this season, outright hoping to lose is something completely different
I am mildly optimistic. Basically it has everything to do with Tannehill improving and the secondary not sucking. I think the pass rush is going to be there.
Yep, stuff like that has happened every season since 2009 FG kicker will lose 2-3 games, then be perfect the rest of the season And on and on it goes
The way I said though, it wouldn't exactly be rooting for your team to lose. It'd be actually knowing the outcome beforehand and changing it in order to have a better future... but since that's impossible, I'm just going to have keep on rooting for us to win. I couldn't be able to purposely root for us to lose either.
More a lack of attention to detail coupled with little to no fear of reperucssions Shula would get a under performing player out of the lineup quickly, trade, waived, whatever. John Jerry would have never happened under Shula, ditto Martin. Fairness to Cautious Coach Joe, he did not want Martin playing but that was Ireland's "guy". Still does not explain Jerry or waiting to sit Clabo or not deactivating Sturgis and replacing him for the yr after he injured his groin. IMO, Philbin's committment to Vets basically deballs him
I'm not the largest Joe Philbin fan, do believe that one however. Now we have tens of millions and a #1 pick to play OT for us, Ellerbe and Wheeler are still here. I think the decline in prominence of our MLB play is symptomatic of what ails the Franchise, once Zach was waived, we've had a parade of "just a guy" come through the position. To me it sets the tone
I disagree with the playmaker comment. Landry has hands like Cris Carter and a mean streak like Hines Ward. What's not to like?
This off season reminds me of so many since Jimmy Johnson left. We feel excited because we have addressed some holes, but there are so many question marks that you can't feel confident about making forward progress. When your hopes for a good season start depending on a laundry list of ifs, you shouldn't be betting the rent money on us making the playoffs. If Tannehill improves If Tannehill and Wallace get on the same page If the OL is actually improved If the LB play improves If our secondary has not gotten worse If Dion Jordon lives up to his draft status If Cameron Wake's production doesn't fall because of his age If Moreno upgrades our RB play and so on ... You don't see teams like Seattle or Green Bay going into seasons with a laundry list of "Ifs" that long. Sure as fans we can hope that all the moving parts fit together and we'll have a 10+ win season. But putting serious money on a bet that relies on so many things going well, that I'm not so sold on.
The -130 odds for under 8 wins or 10/13 payout is $76.92 payout on $100 bet. The +115 on the over pays $115 for $100 bet. That means more people are betting on the under so the payout isn't as high. I believe more people bettin the under is due to playing AFC West. Can Payton remain healthy? Then a strong KC and SD team? The Dolphins have to defend their home turf better this year or the under will prevail. KC and SD traveling to Miami will be keys that we need to win. I think we can take Oakland in England, we'll have a fan advantage and a stronger team. If we can go 3-3 in the division and defend our home field against the AFC West and NFC North the over will payout.
This worries me a bit for this coming season. Our division could be a lot tougher. The Pats are the Pats, but the Bills could be a lot tougher this year. They had a pretty good draft. A lot will come down to their QB play. They now add Sammy Watkins. They already have a pretty solid D with rising stars like Kiko Alonso, who is becoming a very dominant player. Their pass rush gave us fits last year. We better seriously hope the OL greatly improves. The Jets, even more so, will depend on their QB play. If it gets better, they could be tough. Pryor looks like he's going o be a tough player. I'm not making predictions because anything can happen, but as it appears now, the division could end up a lot tougher. That could also play into these odds.
Yes I'm aware how the vig works. Nobody is betting anything yet. The odds were only just released today and haven't been adjusted. They set the vig up the way they did most likely because the actual number of wins they got approximated 7.8 instead of 7.5 or 8.0.
I worry about Bryce Brown teaming up with C.J. Spiller. They're not stupid. They know that cracks were forming in Miami's run defense in 2013 and the loss of Paul Soliai could blow it wide open. Bryce Brown teaming up with C.J. Spiller is exactly the kind of pair that could blow that crack wide open.
They also peddled Steve Johnson, who did concern me. And of course Qb play, fwiw, think the Jest have put together a "Rex Ryan" team. Meaning run the ball play good D, Vick could be good for a couple of defense breaking plays a game But hey we did add Delmas and Albert
Why do you think that? We have pretty compelling evidence that Ireland not getting rid of Cogs after the golf incident and not bringing another LT over Martin was the beginning of the end between Ireland & Philbin's relationship. We heard the inside info MONTHS before it came out ion the papers.
He's not our #2 Wr, the key to production is targets, we have a solid Wr corps even if he beats out Matthews, then there is Gibson, beats out Gibby he only moves up to #3. Moreno is an all around style of Rb, not really a game breaking sort of back.
Because it is so convenient. Plus it totally plays into my belief that Philbin cannot handle the locker room. With his, "I didn't want them anyways" just sounds like a huge excuse for his inability to get good coaches and set up a locker room. Even if it is true, it doesn't change the fact that he isn't really good at his job.
I've thought about it real hard, this is how you play suck for luck and it's ok. For example, if we crap the bed early, you fire the coach mid season, and you demand the interim coach to play all rookie and 2nd year players, and the losses will take care of itself.
Not taking the Saints over 9.5 (-150)? I think that and the Houston under are the two easiest bets. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Can we win 9 games? Sure. We had the talent to win 10 games easily I think. Problems on the OL and lack of leadership hamstrung us. Tannehill was pretty good last year when he had time. It comes down to a couple of things I feel. How well does the OL do this year? If they are even just serviceable and not give up the most sacks in the league we are in good shape. And secondly, how well Bill Lazor is at directing the offense. Can he get more out of his players and be more creative than Mike Sherman? Sherman was really slow to adapt and make the best use out of his player's strengths. Look at how long it took him to use Reggie Bush well or use Tannehill's athleticism. If Bill Lazor does a better job with the offense then we have a chance. My concern really starts with the Buffalo Bills and Ny Jets. They both have better talent than last year and I feel they both have better coaches. (Not impressed with Philbin so far.) I think if the talent on the field is equal that Marrone and Ryan will out coach Philbin. What the Dolphins have to do is dominate those two teams. If we split with the Patriots or even lose both games to them but win both games against the other two teams then I think we're in good shape.
We can't do any worse than 0-2 against the Bills. I think our passing offense will be more productive than the Jets and Buffalo. I am also hoping the play calling doesn't go against us like it did in a few games last year; the Grimes int against Baltimore being called pass interference followed by two PI calls in a row comes to mind, along with several other bad calls early in the year that cost us games. Philbin is going to have to be a more hands on coach and our 2013 rookie class is going to have to be solid. Going 5-8 over their last 13 games and 0-2 in the last two has caused some over pessimism. The reason for the collapse was dysfunction among the coaches and players which equated to injury to two starting offensive linemen and lack of play time for rookies, and lack of game planning and cohesion to finish the season. Without that dysfunction, we could have easily been 9-7.
