thought that was a great episode, one of the best ever. so now Tyrion picks a knight to battle with? Probably Jamie or that other knight, the one in gold, that testified at the trial... they don't like each other too much do they?

At the end of the episode I was pretty sure that he would pick Jamie as his fighter. The only other guy I could imagine is his friend (don't know his name) who was practice sparring with Jamie.

Who fights against Tyrion's champion? Does the throne just pick a fighter?

Yes, Tywin picks the other champion since he is conducting the trial.

If you want to know the identities of the champions who'll fight in the trial by combat:

For the crown: Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane
    For Tyrion: Oberyn Martell

The fight presumably happens in episode 8, "The Mountain and the Viper". Oberyn's nickname is the Red Viper.

I wish I had enough poison for the whole pack of you. I would gladly give my life to watch you all swallow it. I will not give my life for Joffrey's murder. And I know I'll get no justice here, so I'll let the gods decide my fate. I demand a trial by combat!"

This show is amazing. This entire season has had me on edge.

I have to admit, I didn't love the first two seasons of GOT. It took a while for me to get in to it. But now... Wow. Just wow.

    "MY brother is dead"

Theon is pathetic now. So sad to contrast that from how he and the Starks were in the beginning.

    I hated that scene.

They're freaking Ironborn. They're basically Vikings. They cross an entire continent and raid a fortress only to be chased off by a guy with a head too large for his body and a few dogs? Come on now, D&D.

Season 5 needs to see some serious Greyjoy redemption. Victarion, come on down…

The silver lining, though, is that Alfie Allen steals the show every time he's on camera.

  15. I dont know Im just speculating but imagine if Jamie is his champion and now Tyrion is forced to pick a knight to fight his son. The one he wants to bear him a son and carry the Lanister name. If Jamie dies so does the family name and if he lives then the Dwarf goes free. Its so diagolical. I hope its whats coming up

I think you misinterpreted that scene. The Ironborn were ready to fight to the death. In the end, why risk fighting when the reason you're risking your life in the first place, is to save your brother, who doesn't exist anymore? The whole ending with her proclaiming Theon is dead is why she and the Ironborn got out of dodge.

Same. He really did seem like a sad/wounded dog in that scene. Great directing and even better acting. It helps that Gregor got some screen time in the episode, so we can contrast the Hound with his big brother. Helped the scene quite a bit.

I hope some HYPE is in their future.

If you feel bad for anyone, it should be the IMP.. Oberyn Martell's story was cringe worthy. You just have to feel for Tyrion, especially when Oberyn discussed the brutality that Cersi engaged towards her infant brother.

It bothered me to the point where I even questioned if the actual actor in the series feels the stings of those barbs about his dwarfism.

There were some really nice theories from the show-only crowd that Tyrion would pick Jaime in order to force Tywin to somehow rig the match to result in a Jaime/Tyrion victory. That would have been extremely satisfying from a dramatic point of view, but the result that's going to happen is going to be better.

This thread is going to explode by the end of the season.

I reckon the acting masterclass Dinklage has put on the last two weeks must have roots in feelings about how he's been treated as a dwarf his entire life. Unlikely as badly as Tyrion, but he has to have drawn on some of his own memories.

I watched Orphan Black before Game of Thrones. So that last line was playing back in my head instead of "Your sister" as "Your Sestra"

I'd like to see some real data suggesting that memorial day episodes get less ratings... I hate this two week break ****. The most expensive episode ever made (Blackwater) had a nice dip in ratings after this week off ****. It kills all the momentum, which is now at full swing.

Absolutely. You hear truth in his voice when he says "I've been on trial for being a dwarf my entire life!"

Fantastic actor. I haven't "seen" him as a dwarf since the beginning of the show. He's a "normal" person to me, he really is an incredible actor.

Goddamn this show just keeps getting better. These last two weeks were absolutely tremendous tv. This past one was so impressive, bouncing around to almost every locale and nailing the sh-t out of every scene. Dinklage outdid his trial monologue with the series of conversations in that cell. Jesus he's good. And Oberyn's not far behind him in coolness level. Wow.

I was kinda worried about them spreading things thin, or killing off/ignoring so many characters who they'd taken time to develop...but forget that. All the pieces turning in the show right now are really really compelling.

This. It's the same character, Gregor Clegane, but has been played by 3 different actors for whatever reason.

Season 5 should debut a bunch of new characters while retaining the current cast. Some storylines may be AWOL for a while, though. Sansa's current show storyline is waaaaay ahead of the others, for instance.

The 1st Gregor was Conan Stevens, and in my opinion the best one. He left to film The Hobbit trilogy. He's the big bad Orc in that film. He was also Sedullus in Spartacus if you watched that. He stands at 7'1". He had this role for season 1

The 2nd Gregor was Ian Whyte, a former basketball player. You see it in in his build where he's tall (7'1") but not physically imposing like Stevens was. He was also the alien in Prometheus. He was Gregor for season 2.

The 3rd Gregor, the current Gregor, is Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, a former World's Strongest. He's 6'9" but in my opinion his demeanor is too nice, he lacks the menace that Stevens projected. He's the Gregor of season 4.[h=1][/h]

I would ask Des if, in accordance with the books, whether Daenerys' arc is being adequately developed.

It seems to the non-book fan that she has been reduced to just making haughty pronouncements and little else. And given the cost of CGI dragons and large crowds, she is confined in physical space as well.

Frankly, her arc has advanced almost zero since last season. Given that and now that Emilia Clarke is no longer doing nude scenes, her character is far less interesting.

As for Oberyn, he's fast becoming my second-favorite character, right behind Tyrion.

As a book reader, it is my humble opinion that Daenarys' arc is not very interesting at this point. Once she took Maureen, I had to push myself threw Daenarys chapters. Generally I only liked the parts with Strong Belwas.

    *sniff* Strong Belwas.
