Ok here we go.... - Upgrading your skill players was clearly a priority. I like what you did there. Getting rid of Flacco was a big win because at least Dalton still has room to grow where imo Flacco will never be that good again as he was in 2013. The only thing you could have done better was add a speed back to compliment Gore, Thomas and Wilder. I dont love your TE's at this stage of their careers but theyre adequate especially since your wr's are elite. - Your OL took a big step back. You started with a great set of tackles and once you traded them they were never addressed with even average starters. Interior OL is adequate. Confused why you would go out and get a good back like Gore and not give him blockers? - Your front 7 personnel is confusing on defense. Your DL fits a 4-3 as your ends lack mass but your LB's fit a 3-4 as they lack speed. It puts a new definition to the term hybrid haha. Sopoaga is a 3-4 nose and cant get any penetration so hes completely miscast in a 43 even if its only as a run stuffer. But your DE's are all 4-3 ends or tweeners. Dumervil can fit a 3-4. not so sure about the rest of them. If you ran a 4-3 under front you might be able to do something with this bunch but youd need better (i.e. speedier) LB's to make that work. - Safeties and CB's are very good. Moore with Pollard is a nice combination. Moore handles coverage, Pollard in the box injuring Patriots as usual. Clearly defined roles. Im guessing youre playing zone with those CB's. Speed isnt their strong point but it can work.
If only I could recall the compensation... I also acquired LeSean McCoy and drafted Robert Quinn....but who's keeping score.
I had targets for both QB and RB, and TE but they didn't really fall to me. So I just decided to strengthen my Oline. So I just committed to the fact Geno sucked last year because he didn't have the weapons, and maybe 1 Jets RB stays healthy, and Gragg or Sudfeld do something.
Fair assessment. I wanted to be able to shift seamlessly between 4-3/3-4 sets. I don't think I accomplished that entirely but I think the roster is capable of some hybrid looks. Zach Brown and D'Qwell are pretty sterotypical 4-3 linebackers but I agree neither Rivers or Reed fits as a 4-3 SOLB perfectly. I think Rivers is adequate though. Definitely zone coverages, a fair amount of blitzing and trying to create chaos on defense. I think you win by pressuring the quarterback and having a strong secondary so I tried to do that by bolstering my defensive line and grabbing solid corners. Glad you realized the clearly defined roles of Moore and Pollard. After I signed Moore I realized I needed more balance and physical presence defensively and made resigning him a priority. Offensive line wise....I'm banking a lot on two young tackles improving. Might not happen...I do like Ryan Harris as a back up in case one goes the way of a Jon Martin (play wise). I feel fairly solid inside. I feel like Gore will have adequate blocking between the tackles to be effective. Especially with my passing game to defend. I agree with most of what you said though, good analysis.
Short version: I like your secondary a lot, good job adding some nice receivers. Upgraded at QB for sure.
Round 3.... - Somehow I hate your Qb's even more then if you had just drafted one. Thats not an easy accomplishment but commendable effort. You werent exactly handed an ideal situation - You stole Donald Brown from me in FA. I hate you. j/k, great signing. You lack depth there imo. If anything happens to him, youre dead. I wouldnt trust any of those guys for even 1 game with 20 carries. - WR's and TE's are solid not spectacular but they will have plenty of time to get open... - ...Because your OL is excellent. Seriously killer job there. - I like your defense at all 3 levels. Its better then you started out with and thats a good accomplishment considering the team you inherited wasnt chopped liver. Start with the DL. Huge DE's with some penetrating ability. Assuming the very underrated Mike Daniels, Kiesel, and Hageman will be the Open End rotation with Tuitt at closed End and Rubin at NT. - Your LB's are probably the weakest group on D but not bad. You have pass rushers but the whole purpose of a 3-4 is to disguise the 4th (and any additional) pass rushers. Yours are clearly coming off the end. I dont like your MLB's at all. - Secondary is a contender for best in the league. Very good unit. If there is a weak link, its the lack of speed at safety unless you start Brooks.
I had planned on picking up a RB *2 , TE and a MLB in the draft, but I was so aggressive moving up for Lewan, Hageman, Turner and Brooks that it robbed me of that mid round flexibility. I had been targeting Arthur Lynch, Charles Sims (to go along with Taliaferro), but couldn't work out trades. Hadn't really nailed down a MLB at the time though.
I'd like to add to my own write up that Flacco for Dalton wasn't a straight up trade. It was what allowed me to go high on Starks and I used the cap space plus Rey to trade for Michael Bennett.
It's great to see that after 12 years, Buckeye and a canes fans can be so gracious with eachother. We have come a long way.
So I want to give Boik a taste of his own medicine. 1) You inherited Big Ben, so you started with a nice piece to build around, as much as I dislike him he is talented. You did a great job upgrading your offensive weapons, especially WR. Fitzgerald and Brown are a duo that will scare just about any team in the league but you also added other weapons behind them. Nice job. 2) At TE I feel like you have more potential than current ability. I LOVE Niklas. Had I stayed in the early second round he was my major target. Green is a solid player and in the short term Owen Daniels should be effective with you. 3) Love your backfield. 4) Defensively I feel like you're very solid in all areas but perhaps spectacular in none. Which is fine because your offense should be racking up points. Well I suppose your LB core could end up being very good. Not a fan of Teo but Ford/Ware/Harrison are all good additions. You were able to build a very strong secondary as well. All in all I feel like you built a stellar offense without giving up on fielding a strong defense. Nice job overall.
Thanks broski. Actually I thought my best accomplishment was making my OL studly from average. I didnt get to it until later in the process but I think I attacked it well. I think the area I could have done better, and always do better is DL. It came out good. I always expect great
Sure, why not. I have time to kill - Skill players are very good but your TE's are uninspiring. Chandler is a red zone threat and thats all. Hes a blocker and a limited receiver otherwise. Receivers lack an athletic red-zone threat type but still an impressive group. Backs and QBs are very strong. - Interior OL is tolerable but your tackles are turnstiles. Giacomini is an ok RT but not a great pass blocker. Who is your LT? I dont see one there...you better get Rivers a wheelchair or a body cast with that group. - I think your DL has a lot of upside. I like Justin Ellis and its a young group overall. - Your LB's and DB's are your strength on D. Very good groups, great depth. Jimmy Smith was a great acquisition and Woodley gives you a bonafide pass rusher. You also have 2 former 1st rounders In English and Ingram who can still improve.
ok let me have it how did I do with the GIANTS? I always struggle since they are my favorite team, it becomes harder to tear them apart
The NYG are my 2nd favorite team and I had a fun time with them a few years ago before you took them over. But the first thing I did was fire Perry Fewell and his garbage defensive scheme (or at least ability to execute the scheme). - I like your QB but I am not a fan of Trent Richardson at this point. You didnt overpay but Id bet Andre Brown takes that starting job sooner then later if that were the competition. Depth at RB is solid. Your TE's are weak. You have targets there but only Lyerla has any upside as a starter. Adrien Robinson is still a project. Lyerla needs to stay out of trouble but hes not without talent. Hes probably the most talented player you have there. Dreesen is just a body. The receivers lack depth. Cruz is gonna do his thing but youre banking on Randle and Jernigan doing big things. I know Jernigan finished strong but Id have liked to see another established player there and it would have been a really dynamic group. Collie and Evans dont do anything for me. - I like what you did with your OL. There was some heavy lifting to do there and you did well. You got Beatty insurance and got the best Tackle in this draft imo and the depth there is good. If Wharton plays he and Snee can duke it out for 1 Guard spot and Pugh would get the other. Smith provides a healthy upgrade at C who excels as a pass blocker but is good in the run and screen facets. - In typical NYG fashion the DL is a strong group. JPP and Hayes would start but Id bet Damontre Moore takes the job from Hayes sooner then later. The interior DL is strong with Joseph and Marks with good depth. - I like the idea of going Nickel on the back 7 and theres a few ways you could do it. I think youd be better off starting Mathis over Breeland but given the lack of CB depth there Id probably tell ya they will all see time. You could also do it with a 3rd safety using Rolle as a corner and putting Hill and Wilson as left and right safeties so theres options there if Hill stays on the field.
The Giants brought Lawrence Taylor on board as a special coach to teach Lyerla how to become a HOF player while being a crack head! Lol -Richardson was brought in to compete for #1 RB with Brown, I needed to add playable depth to avoid last years problem of picking players off their couch in week 10! -My TE's are a little weak but FA price was too high and PSG ****in reached for Ebron with the 8th pick!(thanks dick), nobody had heard of Kevin Boss or Jake Ballard before Eli turned them into pro's - I wanted to add another established receiver but had so much to do on the Oline and CB's, that's also why I focused on the run game so we would not be so reliant on the pass game, I feel Evans was a steal in the 7th round and with a change to WC Offense, there will be less read and react routes which should improve Randles drops and Eli's INT -OL was an obvious priority and I was surprised to see Matthews on the board at 12, my targets were Ebron or Gilbert, very pleased with the results and depth at OL -I wanted to create depth a competition at CB, Amukamara and Graham are the obvious starters with Blackmon and Matthis both good depth and were both the best CB on their teams last year, Breeland is the future starter but I think has the talent to be a 3rd by mid season. I had to add depth at S with Demps and Abdullah due to idiot Hill being a pot head! - I love my DT and can live with my DE rotation of Hayes and Moore along with JPP - Giants had a top 15 D last year Im not the biggest Perry Fewell fan but his D has a SB and were decent in the 2nd half. I think we have maintained or improved the D unit while definitely improving the offensive issues GMEN should be competitive and make a push for NFC East champions!
So far we have: Miami Tennessee Seattle Houston Philadelphia Pittsburgh New Orleans Indianapolis New York Jets San Francisco San Diego New York Giants Oakland Green Bay Atlanta Washington That is only 50% of the league. Two days left.
I'm thinking in the final voting period..... to not allow you to vote for yourself at all. Here's my take on this... we've allowed it in the past (with the exception of GM of the year, where you can't vote for yourself). However, I think it's more even this way. Not everyone votes for themselves after they are nominated. Some do, perhaps most of you do. But there's a segment that don't. And if you're going to vote for yourself, what really is the point of receiving an award? To smack yourself on the back and congratulate yourself? Or is it to be judged and voted on by your peers as the best in that category? We don't have any other voters besides ourselves. Plus, this way, the Co-GM's can vote without weighing down the votes unequally. Or are you scared that you won't win because you can't vote for yourself? While politicians vote for themselves, the fact is that 1 vote out of a million doesn't make a difference. A vote for yourself here carries much more weight as there are only 32 teams (not all of them will be voting)... it could very well break a tie.
Yeah but everyone has an ability to vote for themself. I don't see how it changes anything either way.
Alright Boik I'm enjoying reading your breakdown of everyone's roster so if you don't mind, what you think of Eagles.
The point is that if you vote for yourself but I choose not to vote for myself because I feel its unethical then its not an even vote. Personally, to my recollection I dont think I ever voted for myself for that very reason unless it was a blatantly obvious pick imo and if I did its probably less then 3x in the 5 years Ive done this. You shouldnt have to vote for yourself to win
The only time I ever voted for myself is when I had the Ravens. And that was only for best draft (because honestly, that was the only time I could objectively say that no one ripped the draft like I did).
I suppose. I can't imagine voting for someone other than mysekf in a category I'm in, and if soneone else voted for themselves I eould too at the end of the day regardless Basically I'm just saying do whatever with that rule because it doesn't impact me in any way. Ill just abstain from voting on said category (if I'm lucky enough to be nominated)
Ok Barfalo....here we go... - Your skill positions are pretty good in terms of potential but there are concerns across the board. Im not sold on Manual but adding a lot of weapons around him at TE and WR will certainly make his life easier. Ben Tate is a huge injury risk but certainly talented. The wr's are loaded on upside but theres very little to none experience. TE depth is non-existent and while Dickson is an upgrade, hes still decidedly average. In limited time it wasnt bad but it has its flaws. - The OL was definitely upgraded on talent. I like what you did there. Adding Mankins and Vasquez to Glenn and Wood was spectacular and gave you an elite interior OL and good tackles. Building the OL from the middle out, intended or not is just fine. - Looking at the DL gives me goosebumps. Love it. Its tailor made for a 3-4 with an elite Open End in Chris Long and a closed end that is a great 2 way player in Kyle Williams who you know I asked about. Branch is an ok Nose but the players around him are so good it might not matter. Even the depth is awesome though I dont think Robert Ayers has any place in a 3-4. Hes a classic 4-3 end imo. - The linebackers are another story. This makes me wonder what defense this is. On one hand you have 2 pure 3-4 edge rushers but you have no depth to speak of. The ILB spot next to Alonso is questionable at best and again theres little depth to speak of. - The DB's are solid with starters and again the depth is questionable. However given that you had half the time frame as everyone else....not bad.
