We have 11 WR’s on the roster right now. What’s your prediction on who makes it and how many they keep. Here is a look at the Dolphins’ current group of receivers: Mike Wallace - Lock Brian Hartline - Lock Brandon Gibson – Lock (if healthy) Jarvis Landry - Lock Armon Binns – Good chance Rishard Matthews - on the bubble Matt Hazel - on the bubble since he’s being drafted. Kevin Cone Michael Rios Ryan Spadola Damian Williams Most likely to keep 6. 7 isn’t out of the realm of possibilities if they can contribute on Special Teams. Thoughts.
I'm trying to figure out if these rumors about our boy Matthews are true that Philbin doesn't like his work ethic.. From my research on him pre draft that wasn't the case, but who knows until we hear some more, I just can't believe it's true from what I saw. Wallace..hart..Gibson..Matthews..Landry..And one slot left.
Michael Rios is already cut. I think Damian Williams probably goes higher on the pecking order. I'm thinking you have your top four pretty well and then Binns, Hazel, Matthews and Williams fight for that fifth spot. Not really sure who makes it...probably Hazel. He has the ability to take Mike Wallace's place in the offense in case of injury. I think Brandon Gibson could play in Brian Hartline's role at need, and I think Gibson, Landry and Binns are all slot players in this offense. We don't really have guys to play Wallace's role if he goes down.
I'd have to say Matthews is a lock as well. I can't see him going anywhere. Landry a lock, Hazel a lock as they were just drafted, and Binns as good chance makes sense. I'd say Gibson is on the bubble with Matthews and Binns on his tail. The whole WR depth chart is going to be dependent on health of Hartline and Gibson.
was it about worth ethic ? i thought it was about problems in understanding the offense ? I´m pretty excited about ryan lankford, he can fly and is the son of Paul Lankford...talking about blood lines http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/201...y-will-make-him-a-nfl-draft-pick-2555750.html
Fixed the title. I dont think Gibson is the lock some of you think he is. Hes not due an extreme amount of money but if they think another player can play his role with more upside, it wouldnt surprise me. It also depends on his health and how well he is moving/cutting/running/jumping after such a severe injury.
LOCKS Wallace Hartline Gibson Landry ----------- Hazel - likely given every chance as a draft pick ----------- Matthews - likely a leg up on the rest if they keep six, based on experience ----------- Binns Williams - these two are next in line due to NFL experience, but likely both out
I think it's Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Landry and Hazel. Rishard gets cut Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
He was one of the most productive members of the team before getting hurt and had developed a good chemistry with Tannehill, second only to Hartline. He also scores touchdowns in the red zone, which is something that we have a problem with. If healthy, and he was hurt all the way back in October, then I see no way he's not back to where he was before in the lineup.
Wallace, Hartline, Landry...those are your starters Gibson, Damian Williams, Matthews....also on active roster Hazel...practice squad I don't believe the whole Rishard Matthews/Joe Philbin beef. The media had me fooled that Randy Starks and Philbin had beef last year. Well, Starks signed back which shows the media has no idea what they're talking about. He could have signed anywhere, but he chose to come back.
If I remember correctly it was about his attitude and work ethic, yeah I hope it's not true, but were left wondering..
I see... Wallace, Hartline, Landry, and Gibson (if healthy) as locks. As a side note, I don't see Landry as just a slot guy. I think that's where he will be most of the time, but I think he'll see some decent time lining up on the perimeter. He's going to be good no matter where we line him up. Damian Williams and Rishard Matthews get the next two spots in my opinion, if there are two more spots. Hazel to the practice squad unless he blows up or shows special teams value in the preseason. Armon Binns would be the only other WR in camp that I think could put up a decent fight for a roster spot. I like our WRs this year. Add that to a much-improved OL, and our offense might just be a little dangerous.
I see some people posting that Hazel is a lock because he was drafted... Come on folks, the guy is a sixth round pick. He may not make it past the first cuts. Locks to me are Wallace, Hartline, Gibson and Landry. Mathews probably has the lead for the next spot... That is about it... The rest of those guys are journey material (with the exception of Hazel who we don't know anything about)
I agree. I think he has all the physical tools to succeed. And I'd rather this current situation, a "glut" as the OP called it, as opposed to what we trotted out there in freaking 2012 (no offense to Hartline or Bess).
Any time you have two starting WRs with serious injuries you need replacement options if they cant fully recover .Particularly Gibson. I only see Wallace,Hartline and Landry as locks to make the team. The rest will be a scramble to see who fits in.
Miami isn't holding onto the glut of DBs like they were last year, it's possible that they keep 6 WRs
Maybe Philbin should earn his pay and coach up Matthews, rather than cut him. The talent is there and Matthews doesn't weigh down the cap, I will be pissed if we dump him.
Hartline, Gibson, Matthews - lock (They are experienced efficient receivers) Landry - lock (2nd rd pick, cannot cut him) Wallace - likely lock due to money Don't care for the rest, keep the best KR/PR
Are all non stars in the NFL the result of the coach not earning his money or is it only the non stars under Philbin?
I'm not saying he will be a star. He has shown good flashes in limited action and looks to have the tools to be an efficient/contributing NFL receiver. I hope we don't give up on him because Philbin thinks he has attitude or doesn't work hard. If our coach doesn't put in the work, I think You'll find another coach in the league will be more than willing to take on the challenge.
I really looked back into his college days, from watching him train it sure looked to me that his work ethic was very solid, not sure what's goin on or what to believe.
I think that Gibson needs to have a much better training camp and pre-season than the younger WR's. He's the third highest paid WR, is coming off of an injury, and his role might be replicated by Landry, IMO.
I don't see Gibson making it. I would guess 20% chance. Too many things working against him. 1) Coming off a torn patellar tendon injury. Those are nasty. He may not make it back to 100% 2) Matthews has more upside and is already a similar player. 3) Landry is a better version of him. 4) Salary higher than the rest of the fringe players.
Not sure I agree about Matthews having more upside. Felt like Gibson was more consistent as well. The injury and the money work in Matthews favor, apart from that I prefer Gibson.
Five wide receivers whom are expected to get significant snap counts isn't really a sustainable situation. You can float it short term depending on the situation(guys coming up, guys going down/out in the future), but they're probably not keeping all five. My favorite scenario is the Incarcerated Bob rumor is that the Browns are interested in taking Mike Wallace for a late round pick this year, essentially getting a better cap deal and a quicker resolution than cutting him next year. Gibson is a possibility, he recently had to clarify that he'll be ready for the season and he may be diminished with multiple guys capable of playing his position and salary cap benefits to cutting him. I'd be really unhappy with Rishard Matthews getting the ax. He might be imperfect talent, but he's young productive talent.
I agree. I don't see how anybody thinks that a 6th round pick has more of a chance than Matthews who played pretty well last year. IMO Matthews would have to run afoul of Philbin in some way (show up out of shape, embarrass the team, etc.) to lose that edge.
His rep at UNR was that he had a very solid work ethic. His dad was a Marine Master sergeant or something that allegedly was really strict. It could be a question of what he worked on though. I never felt he had great technique as a blocker which could mean he didn't work at it. But he obviously worked out very hard as he was always in great shape and frankly it wouldn't surprise me at all to hear that UNR didn't focus on WR blocking drills a whole lot.
His body and strength is fantastic, I've watched some of his offseason stuff that was very impressive, I'm just perplexed on the rumor..
Ok, I'll rephrase. Are all players who fail to become average the result of their coach not earning their money or is it only those under Philbin?
To answer your question, if I was a Jacksonville fan and GUs Bradley was quick to give up on a talented young player b/c of a perceived personality flaw, I would call him out as well.
