In the specific sense you're right, of course, but I think this is a contentious issue because there is a perceived growing sentiment that anyone holding certain distasteful views should be silenced, to the extent that some fear it may become law if pushed forwards. Or from the reverse angle, it is a concern that a growing number of people don't see to care/be aware about the potential loss of freedoms, even seeing such as a good thing. I think that's why this is a contentious issue.

Your absolutely right, his case is not about freedom of speech, it's about his freedom of choice. What I don't understand about people today is why is ok for a gay man to break down the barriers that have held him back and it's not ok for another to criticize that man??

What's going on is Capitalism 101. A business is allowed to listen to the demands of its customer base and act accordingly as long as neither the customers or the business are breaking any laws.

I don't think the anti-gay front gets to talk about loss of freedoms quite frankly, since they are the ones blocking the freedoms of gay people. In fact, that entire track of the argument is borderline absurd all things considered. No one is claiming it should be illegal to voice displeasure at gays. The other side is absolutely advocating for it to be illegal to either be gay, practice homosexuality and/or be in a homosexual relationship.

The only side trying to limit freedom of speech or choice is the pro Don Jones side.

You guys want only Don Jones to have freedom of choice and speech by the logical progression of your arguments.

You're basically saying Don Jones can say anything he wants but anyone who disagrees with him should shut up. You're also saying that Don Jones should be allowed to violate his contract with the Dolphins all he wants, but the Dolphins aren't allowed to uphold that same contract.

Who said anything about breeding? I'm talking about love and marriage, maybe they will choose to adopt or artificially empregnate like homosexual couples are forced to. Biology its self doesn't actually limit sexual activity between family members.

Right and I guess since I find your stance offensive I'm gonna go ahead and label you a bigot and a hypocrite. It makes you no better than Jones, you just have different standards of what you find "gross".

Label away... this goes once again to the fact that not all opinions are equally valid.

Incest is not the same as homosexuality. Other cultures acceptance of incest does not magically make them the same things. Accepting that heterosexual and homosexual love are equally valid doesn't necessitate that incest has the same validity. It's really a silly argument.

D, I think that is oversimplifying the situation. Sure, the Phins have the rights to hold Jones to their standard, heck, I wasn't allowed to wear facial hair for 30 years at my company. That's not a problem. What is a problem is that it seems to be for a man to announce his being gay, but not ok for others to criticize that publicly. It's more than an employer/employee situation. In this case, you are right...Jones was wrong because of his contract, but is it really right, from a moral perspective. If another Dolphin announced that he was gay on twitter, should he also be held to the standards that Jones was??

It took a while for me to get IT, but like you I have moved past the Left and the Right. If everyone could see it for what it is - a divisive construct. I thought the last Bush was the worst president we had ever had until Obama was elected and continued the same disgraceful leadership. Neither care about the people of this nation and neither have any regard for the Constitution. The Left vs the Right is just a way to divide people and continue the establishment goals of enslavement. Guns are a big problem for the slavers that's why they want to register them and take them away. Progressives are just the new face of the Socialist Faith don't let them fool you by the constant name changes.

Sorry D, won't let me edit for some reason...to finish, is it ok to allow pro gay statements on twitter and not antigay statements that some may make? I know you and I can't answer that from a moral perspective because it's more than about just what is legally right or wrong...

Not out of religious beliefs more out necessity. They have small communities that have been around for a long time and most of them are all related.

You're not understanding that this is a business decision. The Dolphin organization has every right to portray themselves as a pro gay organization if they choose. If a member of their organization publicly counters that stance, then the Dolphins are allowed to protect their goals...especially if a contract was signed by both parties agreeing to exactly that.

The end result of your argument is that employees should allowed to say ANYTHING at anytime and not be punished by the employer.

Yes, anyone can post any opinion they want to. They are however not free from criticism or societal cvonsquences. You're essentially arguing that people against homosexuality are allowed to voice their opinion, but people who are against those people are not allowed to voice their opinion.

These statements are exactly the opposite of reality.

The facts are that Don Jones is the one punished for his statements and he is the one being silenced and limited - directly opposite of your first statement. Nobody fined Sams, their was no punitive actions taken against him only Jones.

Don Jones is the one being told to shut up and has had punitive actions against him for his statements. - Opposite of the second statement, the LGBT lobby has a history saying if you disagree with us you should shut up or we will come after you.

Yes, because the esteem that the speech that each had was held in had different value to their employers.

Why wouldn't the lobbiests do their job? That's the purpose of a lobby. You know, to lobby...

If your business wanted to be known as the less expensive option, and an employee went on Twitter telling anyone and everyone the company was the most expensive option, you'd rightfully expect that person to be reprimanded by his employer. This is the same thing. The Dolphins want to be known as a pro-gay organization. An employee went on Twitter giving a non pro gay stance. Thanks to the contract Jones had the choice to sign, the Dolphins punished him.

Basically what you're saying is that the people who are upset by Don should not voice their opinion. That the Dolphins should not be able to be promote that they are gay friendly. That legal contracts are inherently wrong.

His punishment is not criticism or society shunning him. He was fined and suspended and forced to undergo re-education.

Do you have information on the specifics of his contract? Also, everyone is saying he is anti gay. His remarks to me were of shock of what he was witnessing on T.V. not him being anti gay. He apologized and I haven't heard him say anything anti gay.

By his employer based on a contract he willingly entered into.

Following your logic, no business should be allowed to reprimand their employees and no contract should be legal.

If you are representative of a company (in this case a NFL Franchise) at a highpaid level your contract says specifically or figuratively that you represent the company according to their policy.

It is not about difference of opinions. The reality is it embarrassed the team. It caused another twitter backlash, articles were written and a negative spotlight hit the Dolphins again. Even if Ross wasn't embarrassed, it was still embarrassing to the organization.

The other thing to consider, don't care. He didn't have to put on Twitter. He easily could have said, "OMG, gross" to himself or his friends as long as his friends aren't recording him to put it on YouTube.

Third point, that is just insulting. Incest != Gay.

A lot like watching a man and women in public trying to tongue each other, some things should be done in private not everyone likes sharing all fetishes. Adults of all sexual preferences should respect public indecency.

Sure. If a person sees to men kissing and is so upset he takes to Twitter to let everyone know how upset he is, then its more than likely he's anti-gay as well.

The first time I saw someone eat pineapple on a pizza, I didn't stand up and announce to the world i was disgusted.

This entire thread confirms what I really already knew. You can not have a legitimate discussion with progressives or liberals about these kinds of topics. They are all about love is love and "=" bumper stickers until you push them past their own comfort zone of acceptableness. There must be some kind of class or book these people read to learn how to dodge the truth and valid points and arguements. They have their liberal talking point they repeat over and over until people eventually end up giving up. Its like trying to talk to a brick wall about something, no matter how much truth you talk to it in the end its no smarter than it was before because it doesn't listen. They use the biggest weapon of mass distruction that is available on earth right now, the media.

We are discussing not being stupid.

Bringing up incest comes up a lot when discussing gays. It doesn't have anything to do with the conversation. Next you might have said, "What if Manziel frenched kiss a little boy," or "raped a goat."

And as Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer said, 'You just can't rape a goat these days. It will end up on your facebook page."
