With pick 5.C06, the Kansas City Chiefs select: Kirby Van Der Kamp, P, Iowa St. Can't believe there's a video on youtube.. .anyway, yes, KC needed a punter, realized they didn't have one on the roster... figured, end of round five not a bad time to take the best one... yay, punter!
DeAndre Coleman, DE, Cal
With the 163rd pick of the 2014 GML Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select: LB from Western Kentucky, Andrew Jackson Realizing the Chiefs need a thumper inside, they get the guy who can do that pretty well...
With the 164th pick of the 2014 GML draft, the Buffalo Bills select: Jake Murphy, TE, Utah Fortunately for us, the Bills decided to move down in the fifth round and still got their #1 target as we suspected the underrated tight end from Utah, wouldn't be taken by another team before this sixth round selection. I actually think he can be a starter in this league down the road. He's got very natural gifts, great hands, great fluidity in and out of his breaks, although he didn't run a lot of those types of routes at Utah. But you look at his 3 cone time at the combine, 7.18 (4th at the combine at the position) and his shuttle time of 4.27 (2nd at the combine), and realize that he could be a steal at this position of the draft. We certainly needed to add a tight end at some point in the draft, with Ed Dickson and Tony Moeaki our other tight ends, we feel we've got a good competitive group here. Didn't panic when tight ends were being taken left and right early on. We stuck to our board and went with players that could help us now at other positions rather than reach for a tight end in the 2nd and 3rd rounds who isn't going to crack the starting lineup. With the 165th pick in the 6th round, Seattle selects Aaron Colvin, CB, Oklahoma Seattle feels they got tremendous value in Colvin here who might've been a 1st rounder with shut down potential had he not suffered an injury at the Senior Bowl. With a starting trio of Richard Sherman, Tramon Williams, and Badley Roby in place, Colvin will get 2014 to rehabilitate, much like Tank Carradine did last year, and then become the slot corner of the future..... unless he challenges Bradley Roby for the perimeter job and Roby takes the slot.
The Saints lost a couple valuable weapons in the offseason... and with a GM who took a value pick with his final pick last year with Zac Stacy, where will the Saints go this year? How about a back that posted in the top three of every event at the 2014 combine for running backs? If that's not enough, this kid put up 32 reps on the bench... which was the top 10... for every damn player at the combine. He's had the athleticism to play everywhere from QB to even DB... Sean Payton spent his time off in the lab, creating a test tube baby of Sproles and MJD... His name... Jerick McKinnon, Beast, Georgia Southern It's been fun
With the 167th Pick in the 2014 TP GML Draft, The Dallas Cowboys Select: John Urschel, OG/C, Penn State
With the 169th pick, the Seattle Seahawks select Kevin Norwood, WR, Alabama. The 6'2 200 pound Norwood is one of the most underrated players this draft who got lost in a heavy run-first offense but will end up being a more productive pro than many of the 2nd round receivers when it's all said and done, as his skill set, hands, route running, understanding & feel for the game, and proven versatility at all 3 WR positions will prevail on a more consistent play-per-play basis. Norwood offers the reliability of a Brian Hartline but with better speed, attacks throws in the air, wins jump balls, and offers greater run after the catch ability.
Oakland Raiders are awarded S Vinnie Sunseri, Alabama with pick 5.171
The committee selects for Carolina with pick 6.172: DE from Alabama, Ed Stinson. This is Carolina's second straight missed pick, they forfeit the rest of their picks: 6.188 7.202 7.C09
With the 164th pick of the 6th round of the 2014 GML Draft, the Miami Dolphins select Tight End Justin Jones out of East Carolina.
Indianapolis Colts select with the 175th pick... QB Tajh Boyd, Clemson
With pick 6.176 of the 2014 GML draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select: Michael Campanaro, WR, Wake Forest 5.9 192 lbs 4.45 40 39in vertical 4.01 shuttle 6.77 3 cone drill
With pick 6.177 of the 2014 GML draft, the Buffalo Bills select: Isaiah Crowell, RB, Alabama State We think he deserves a shot given his natural ability at the running back position. Could be the next Cecil Collins... could be the next Bryce Brown. You look at his videos below and wonder if he can keep his head straight, he could be a star in this league... he's certainly worth a look. I believe the Jets didn't realize they had this pick... so the committee selects for the New York Jets with pick 6.179. Stephen Morris, QB, Miami Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez need a third quarterback.
Rams select CB Maine Kendall James Great speed and quickness allow him to run with any receiver and route, unlike some cornerbacks who are linear athletes, only being able to post an impressive 40-yard dash time due to straight-line speed. James also has great lateral agility that will help him play either outside cornerback or slot corner, which requires short area speed over distance speed. Played his best in off-man coverage. He can close quickly on underneath routes or turn his hips and run with receivers on deep routes. Keeps his head up and eyes on the quarterback throughout the play. He can play in zone coverage and find the ball quickly, giving the defense a chance for a turnover. Adds good value as a special teamer, where he starred for Maine. He gives great effort on every snap and can tackle elusive returners. Aggressive when jumping routes but doesn’t do so recklessly. He reads the offense effectively and notices subtle hints by the quarterback and receiver. Sticks his nose in every running play, which is important for a potential slot cornerback. He looks comfortable roaming around the line of scrimmage. It takes a tough mindset to play slot, and James isn’t lacking a tough mindset. Great productivity while at Maine, showing he isn’t just a track athlete. Great leaping helps overcome lack of height when in traffic. Has the speed and agility to be a potential kick returner, although he doesn’t have much experience there now. James will be groomed to take over the nickel spot in 2015, he is unbelievably gifted and who better than Dan Quinn to give this player the grooming he will need to blossom. America's team, the Dallas Cowboys, via bulletin flowthrough selection, select with 6.182: Xavier Grimble, TE, USC
Bengals select S Kenny Ladler of Vanderbilt with pick 183. Cincinnati feels it got another steal here as Kenny Ladler is pretty much universally graded in rounds 4-5. In a continued effort to bolster secondary depth the Bengals add Reggie Nelson's heir apparent at FS. Ladler is an athletic specimen at 6'1" 205lbs and was the 1st Team All-SEC safety (coaches) and 2nd Team (AP) as a senior. A playmaker, Ladler tied for the FBS lead with 5 forced fumbles and finished second in the SEC with 5 interceptions while leading the Commodores in tackles with 91. For now, Ladler's athleticism will be put to use on special teams, but he'll eventually team with a fellow SEC alumnus in Shawn Williams to give the Bengals their safety duo of the future.
