The Dolphins have not responded to inquiries from Channing Crowder's agent about a new contract, and with Crowder set to become an unrestricted free agent next spring, the situation bears monitoring. Crowder's camp believes he's being seriously underpaid. With a $1 million base salary for this season, he's tied for fourth with Reggie Torbor among the team's linebackers behind linebacker/defensive end Jason Taylor ($7.5 million), Joey Porter ($4.8 million) and Akin Ayodele ($2.5 million).

IMO this guy has to step up. He hsa not shown yet that he deserves to be paid 3-4 mill a year. Hopefully this is the year he steps it up since Zach is now gone for good
    ********************************************************

Also in the article is all the U fans complaining about not getting their logo on the field. Over 200 complaints. I wonder how many Dolphin fans complained

Hocutt said all involved parties had decided -- as reported in Sunday's Miami Herald -- that the ''U'' would not appear at midfield. Dolphin Stadium president Bruce Schulze and UM associate athletic director Jim Frevola said last week that there would be no ''U'' at midfield -- or UM lettering and logos -- in the end zone, because it would be too difficult to switch back and forth between Dolphins and Canes games.

But after UM officials were flooded with complaints, Hocutt (who got 200 e-mails) called Schulze Monday to figure out a way to change that. The solution reached? ''Dolphin Stadium agreed to grow turf on a turf farm that will contain our U that will be painted on it,'' Hocutt said. ``Prior to every game, they will remove the midfield turf and insert the turf with our U painted in it.''

The logo will appear once the Marlins' season is over (which could be as soon as the second home game Sept. 27 against North Carolina, unless the Marlins are still in playoff contention).

''We talked about using chalk, but that wouldn't withstand even pregame warm-ups,'' Hocutt said. ``We have definitely heard from our fans. It's a symbol of tradition that's important.''

But Hocutt said unlike at the Orange Bowl, the end zones will not contain the word ''Miami'' or Canes helmets ``because it's too difficult to replicate the same process in the end zones. Instead, we'll have traditional collegiate striping in the end zone.''

hard to feel for a guy that makes 1 mil a year when I make a drop n the bucket and put my life on the line. Nope, can't do it. Don't get me wrong, if you can get the money, sure go ahead but, Play and earn a new contract.

Crowder is a mediocre starting linebacker, and basically regressed last year without Zach Thomas basically telling him what to do. I dont think he's here for long, and I'm skeptical when healthy he'll beat out Torbor/Ayodele.

It would be crazy for any of us to feel that way.
It's the absurdity of our society.

People work everyday in dangerous situations or in important jobs and get paid peanuts. Then you have to hear an athlete beyatch and talk about being taken advantage of because he's making 4 million a year instead of 6. All in an uproar because he wants to be able to buy another Bentley in another color.

This probably wont sit well with Parcells or Ireland considering what Parcells said about the talent level on this team. Unless he has a breakout year his days in Miami may be numbered.
One things for sure, he has big shoes to fill if he is considered a replacement for Zach Thomas.
I kind of feel Parcells and Ireland will be shopping for a linebacker or two in the next draft

Rey Maulauga (spelling?) of USC is the guy we want at MLB or an ILB position in the 3-4 (after we draft him that is). I would take him over Crowder right now. If not him, we could bring in Laurinaitis of Ohio State. I just am not totally sold on Crowder and if his demands are too high I would just deal him away. Crowder seems to disappear at times and take plays off....something you never saw from Zach.

I think Huizenga should be forcing the Miami Hurricanes and Marlins to cough up big $$$ to pay for a roof over Dolphin's stadium. If they want to play there make them pay for a roof so they fans can watch games without dying from heat strokes.

I would love to know what Crowder's agent has strategized with regards to how to put the pressure to the team if they don't give in. I mean would he REALLY consider holding out?? ;)

I would hope Irelands answer to him would be along the lines of "go ahead, knock yourself out".

I don't think we'd lose that much without him on the field.

crowder asking for more money is not even worth me commenting on, as far as the U goes, them not having their symbol on dolphin field is the least of their worries.. the configuration of the stadium and lack of energy and noise is going to have a profound impact on that program....never underestimate the power of the fans aand the right energy in a stadium, it can have an impact on so many levels its really not even funny. imagine a top recruit walking into dolphin stadium and watching a hurricane game..... goodbye recruit..see you in gainesville or tallahassee.

That stadium was and still is a major cancer in our beloved dolphins...now its about to do the same for a great canes program....be afraid canes fans...be very afraid

I feel you on the negatives of Joe Robbie Stadium's atmosphere because of the flawed design. UM games will NEVER have the same electricity there just like the Phins haven't ever been able to come close to it. I don't see them losing recruits over it though. That's pushing it IMO.

I have only passed by the Stadium from the expressway.....what changes would have to be made to improve it?

I know Baseball surface blows...but aside from that, what other tweaks or adjustments would make it better?

Should they blow it up and start over?

C Crowder needs to step up to the plate and show his worth for once...

The ball is in his court and if he fails Crowder has NO one to blame but himself!

i dont wish that would happen but i do feel very strongly about my opinion and what a negative affect that stadium has on a football team, a fanbase, a franchise on many levels.

It will hurt the U's program. i wish we could build a new stadium that we share with the university of miami and build it with the memories of the orange bowl in mind....it could have a great economic affect in this town.

Is it the location, compared to the OB, that is a significant part of the problem?

:thankyou: Couldnt have said it better myself!!!

To heck with those stupid stripes in the endzone too. Should just put the Dolphins writing and logo as normal. Its OUR house. not theirs.

And Id love to see Crowder really prove he's worth cash before wanting a big fat payday. I like the guy, but come on, he isnt that special

Won't that mean our midfield turf will be loose and make for poor conditions there?

Crowder needs to play lights out and EARN a bigger paycheck, and if not, then let it be elsewhere.

It's the overall distance from the field. Old Joe designed it as multipurpose and held the seats away from the field. You cannot just add seats either, their would be no seat fall.. all you would see is the head in front of you.

It got so loud in the closed end of the OB your friggin eyes would blur.

Dude, if you have to ask this question its obvious you never say a game in the Orange Bowl.

The stadium was old and a heap, but it was an incredible place to see a game. The fans are right on top of the field and make a noise level and energy level that is hard to find in many stadiums.

I remember a game on a Monday night, in 1981 vs Philadelphia. Jaworski was stopped in his tracks 7 times as he came to the line of scrimmage, because he couldn't hear it was so loud. Finally when he did get the ball off, he threw an interception to the waiting arms of Lyle Blackwood. It was magical.

And I remember one quote from the old Chicago coach Mike Ditka when the game was over in 1985 "Get me away from those Miami fans", as we were as loud at a game as we had ever been.

The OB was a BIG home field advantage to any team if they were a good team, as it holds the distinction of being the only stadium to hold both the college football home winning streak (58 games) and the professional home winning streak (Dolphins 1971 to 1974). If anything else, that stat alone tells you all you need to know about the OB as a home field for a team

    So true.
If you experienced one game there sitting in the closed end zone you know what electricity feels like.

    GREAT memories man.
That 85Bears game.... when they brought in McMahon off the bench to try and spark their offense. The place exploded. Mcmahon kept turning to the refs to force the crowd to calm down but no dice. That only made things louder. Then McMahon finally gives in, snaps it and he's friggin sacked.

I kid you not my head hurt for hours after the game because it got so loud at that point.

I miss that old tub horribly.

which in turn spiraled our franchise down and down and down until we reached the worst of all time... # 13 said it himself..he or his teammates never felt the same, but he was such a competitor it didnt matter, emotional intensity is a big part of a players game...where do you think players get that from?...thats right the fans..we do not have that edge to our game at all and now the canes will be a part of the same doldrum.

beautifully said...how ignorant do you have to be when contructing a stadium for your home team to not keep in mind the many advantages that come with building it with fan intensity in ur blueprint...it trickles down right into your pocketbook, fans wants to be a part of the impact of a game, its one of the main reasons this team has sucked so bad for so long
