I saw someone do this last year with NFL Rewind, so I decided to do the same and really focus on each play. Already almost watched all of them, just a couple left and here's some of my opinions/things I noticed with my own eyes throughout the season.

    Offense

-Ryan Tannehill is solid. He made a few questionable throws that had me scratching my head, but he had an exceptional season in my opinion from what he was dealt with. The few plays he had time in the pocket, he made great decisions and great throws. Other than that, for the most part, he had no time in the pocket, yet he still played solid throughout the year. I'd like to see us use him more in read options and I'd like to see him use his feet more to escape pressure and make plays on the run.

-Our O-Line sucked. That was obvious. Jon Martin/Tyson Clabo were the worst. Bryant McKinnie/John Jerry were the next worse. And Richie Incognito was bad, too.

-One praise on our O-Line. Mike Pouncey was an animal. Very solid. He proved me wrong...I thought he was overrated because our interior line gave up a lot of pressure, but after rewatching all these games, I noticed that none of that was him. It always seemed that Jerry and Incognito were getting beat and Pouncey had his man locked up. He was incredible in the run game as well and was the only lineman that got to the 2nd level with success and made blocks down the field.

-Our screen game was awful. Whether it was RB screens, TE screens, or WR screens. It was horrendous and almost always ended up as a waste of a play, where we threw it away or we lost yards. We need to take notes from the Saints and Bills. Granted, I do blame most of it on our bad O-Line play.

-Mike Wallace needs someone across from him that will take the main focus off of him. He was (obviously) very inconsistent and he cannot catch a ball in traffic to save his life. I view him as a #2 WR (a very expensive one), and I'm all for grabbing a Kelvin Benjamin or Odell Beckham in the 1st round to take some pressure off Wallace. It seemed like every deep ball we threw his way, there was either double coverage or safety help over the top and he's not a guy that's going to go up and grab a ball over defenders, 40 yards down the field. I'd also like to see more end-arounds and fake end-arounds with him next seasons to stretch out the defense more.

-RB is far from a need. Lamar Miller proved to me he can be a #1 back and Daniel Thomas was very solid, too. Both guys make defenders miss and Miller has exceptional vision. If it weren't for our terrible offensive line/terrible play calling, these guys could've combined for 1500+ yards. Too many times we ran the ball on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and 1 to Daniel Thomas 6 yards deep in the backfield and he would get stoned by the defense. But, the few times we ran play actions, or let Tannehill or Clay run it straight up the gut, it worked. Go figure.

-Charles Clay was solid, but I would like to keep him in the H-back role. I don't see him as a true TE. I would like another TE that is big bodied (Troy Niklas) and can be a threat in the redzone...and Mike Egnew is not that option.

-Rishard Matthews was our most reliable WR. Hartline was 2nd, but Matthews catches everything (you could probably thank Colin Kaepernick for that). I love using him in 4WR sets and on 3rd downs. In the small sample size Gibson and Matthews gave us, I think I like Matthews more.

    Defense
-Jared Odrick was an animal. In both pass rushing and run support. Cam Wake was Cam Wake, when he was healthy. Derrick Shelby was decent. Definitely made some pretty big plays.

-Randy Starks and Paul Soliai were also animals. I'm going to miss Soliai. He seemed like the only D-lineman that knew how to get his hands up and knock down passes at the LOS.

-Dion Jordan is interesting. He definitely made an impact last season. He was a big reason we won that Baltimore game in week 5, when he beat Bryant McKinnie (go figure) and hit Flacco's arm, which led to a pick 6 for Reshad Jones. He definitely has the athleticism and size to be one of the top pass rushers and over all defensive players in the league (he was making special teams plays and he dropped back into coverage a decent amount and made plays). I just don't know if he has the mean streak like a Cam Wake or T-Suggs or Demarcus Ware has. Seemed like a lot of plays, he kind of let up or gave up when he got bodied up by an offensive tackle. Hopefully, that was just his injury holding him back

-Koa Misi was our best LB. Dude makes tackles and always seems to be in the right place at the right time, around the ball. Ellerbe, was alright. Better than what people give him credit for. He did miss quite a few tackles and he wasn't the greatest in coverage, but he was solid and made plays.

-Neither Philip Wheeler or Jason Trusnik deserve to be on the field when were on defense. Wheeler missed so many tackles, it amazes me how he is an NFL player. Never really saw Wheeler make a good play in coverage, either. I know Trusnik only really came in when someone like Misi got hurt, but when he did come in, it was pretty bad. Much rather have seen Jelani Jenkins play more instead, or even seen Dion Jordan play a little at LB.

-Dimitri Patterson was our best CB. Sorry Grimes. You were solid for the most part, too. But, every game that Patterson played in, by the end of the game, I said to myself that he was the best CB in that game. Never really saw Patterson get picked on, and I saw a couple of the big plays he gave up were clear offensive pass interferences that were not called. I really hope we try to get Patterson back, even though we cut him. Carroll was solid, but he wasn't extremely impressive. Clear difference between Patterson/Grimes and Carroll. I wouldn't be against bringing Patterson back and having our CBs being 1. Patterson/Grimes, 2. Patterson/Grimes, 3. Jamar Taylor, 4. Will Davis, and just bring in Cortland Finnegan to cover the slot and piss off TEs.

-Reshad Jones doesn't miss tackles. Ever. Most sure tackler on our defense. Was pretty good in coverage also.

-Chris Clemons wasn't bad. He didn't miss that many tackles and was decent in coverage. But, I don't mind replacing him with Delmas. Reshad Jones was night and day the better overall safety/tackler than Clemons. Jimmy Wilson played pretty similar to Clemons, imo. Not great, not terribly bad either. I like the idea of keeping Wilson as a backup safety/STer.

    Special Teams
    -Brandon Fields is a stud.

    -Brandon Fields is a stud.

    -Brandon Fields is a stud.

    -I like Sturgis.

-Don Jones and RJ Stanford were by far our two best STers. And I don't think it's close.

-Marcus Thigpen sucks. I swear he has to be blind, the amount of times he literally just ran straight into the back of his blockers. I would've loved to pay Hester 3mil a year to give us better starting position than our own 7 yard line half the game.

The End. I'll prob add some more notes as I finish up the last couple of games or edit some things. Just bored as hell the last few days so I decided to get the 5 day free trial and rewatch this awful season. any questions?

Seriously thanks for this write up though, a lot of things I thought too after the season you saw.....glad to see it was the same after a more thorough look through.

Good thing we still haven't resigned Patterson yet.

I agree that Patterson is a very good corner, and I think most of the NFL agrees, but how much do you pay an aging corner who can't stay on the field.

Is he even worth a roster spot when you have some young talented guys that you want to develop?

As far as safety goes, Antone Exum is the answer; and Bruce Ellington is the answer to everything else.

Our oline was so bad when Mckinnie came in you could see the difference he made..

I would of cut Thigpen during the year last year.

I believe Dion has a mean streak..

hard to judge anything on offense. everything begins with the push up front & our offensive line did not have it. the pass & run feed off each other & Miami simply had little to no chance of either because of blocking.
the defense was mediocre mostly because of line-backing errors, misposition & unused potential. would like to see more of the 4/3 using Dion at LB. we need some creativity & common sense in defensive game planning.

Oh, I ****ed that one up. I forgot that just tied the game up and Tucker hit the game winner later.

That's fair. But, injuries happen. If we do resign Patterson and get one full season out of him, then we look like geniuses and we could potentially have one of the top secondaries in the AFC. Grimes/Patterson/Jones/Delmas could be very solid. And I'd love to develop Taylor, considering he was a 2nd round pick last year, but what if he doesn't develop within a couple of seasons? Then, we are back to square 1 at CB, since Grimes is aging as well.

I think we need to rebuild the whole running back unit...line, fullbacks, backs.

In the interview video of Philbin he said fullbacks are #11 of importance on an offense.

I really think fixing the line, replacing Thomas with a short yardage bruiser is all we need. Miller will be fine.

Miller is complementary to me. He was great complementary to Reggie Bush and he will be great complementary to Duke Johnson.

I disagree. FBs are quite important in the run game. Especially for a guy like Miller who isn't going to drive through LBs when they're waiting in the hole. The OL gets a lot of blame and rightfully so but not having a blocking TE or FB hurt the run game as much as anything.

I think a lot of you are misinformed with Miller. This guy probably surprised me the most out of every player on the team, after rewatching these games. He's not a Marshawn Lynch that is going to carry 3 defensive linemen on his back for another 4 yards, but he finishes off every run. His vision/elusiveness picks up extra yards that he shouldn't have gotten because our OL was terrible. When we did get a push (which was rare), he burst up the middle, made a LB miss, and picked up 8-10 yards. He makes defenders miss. And so does Daniel Thomas.

D-Thomas just got shafted, because about 20 of his 109 carries were 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and short, where the defenses would have 8, sometimes 9 guys in the box. Nothing you can do about getting hit in the backfield by 2 defenders. This is where we need to use Clay as a FB (we did that a little last season and had success) or have Tannehill run a play action and roll out and either pickup the first himself or dump it off to someone in the flats (same thing, we did this a little and it worked).

I saw Richard Mathews single handedly cost us a game. It started when he batted a ball up for an interception and ended with 3-4 more drops that game. During the 3 game losing skid, we were abused by the refs in the Balt game and NE game. Pouncey had his worst year IMO. PFF graded him poorly in the run game and passing game. I agree with much of what you say about Tannehill and the RB's, Thigpen sucks, Sturgis was below average from 40-45 yds and cost us games, Carroll was pushed into Thigpen once and caused a fumble on kickoff, but Don Jones made up for that with a huge hit forced fumble and gave us a win. Overall ST, aside from Fields was the next worst unit behind the OL due to Thigpen. ST coverage was good but if they would have lost the Steelers game for us on the last play, the good would be bad.

I also saw Brandon Gibson drop 4 passes on something like his first 10 or 11 targets. I like Gibson and he makes plays, but I'm just saying a cheaper alternative, who I like just as much (maybe), is Matthews. And from everything I've seen, Pouncey was a beast last year. I think it's hard for PFF to grade him because of how bad our LG and RG play was, and considering he splits the A gap with both positions, some of the heat goes on him. He was the only offensive lineman that was solid in pass pro, and he was the only lineman that reached the 2nd level and made blocks down the field. Didn't see any DTs really blow him up and get to the backfield consistently, like I saw from the rest of the line.

That's right, it was Rothlesberger that started that play. Thanks! So Wheeler and the safety's are to blame. I really thought ST did a great job on covering the opponents punt and kickoff returns, but I can't seem to find stats on ESPN that make sense.
