No doubt he embarrassed our team, as well as the others who sat back and let it all happen but, in the end they were words, words that he thought was ok to use, which they weren't, but it's not a crime that should end this mans career, he's just a dumb *** who needed to get humbled and educated. About how to treat people, you and I know if. Martin was in a fight, Cognito would of had his back, I think trying to help him get on his feet and fix the man could be something that could turn into a positive for the team. The punishment that he and others received was correct, but I think enough is enough, you might have your self a player that turns his flaws into a positive, for some reason I think he has that in him.
We don't know he's bipolar, we do know that when the world comes crashing down for something you thought wasn't a big deal, can make you break down emotionally, alcoholism can be helped.
You must love mediocre play then because that's what he was and his play was definitely a problem. Was he "tough"? Probably, but that doesn't make you a good guard. He was very below average.
No, just no. The man is extremely unstable, potentially dangerous. This is not his first "bottom out" though maybe the worst. He has already gotten more than a second chance. Wanting him back is insane. Sure, sometimes getting into this type of position "fixes" people. Most often, it does not. Or it fixes them for a short time, then they blow up again. Exactly what would be the result if we brought him back and he went off again doing the stupid **** he has been doing all his life? No, we are not the ones that should give this delinquent failure yet another try. Get the **** out and good riddance.
No thanks Richie. You ****ed us one too many times pal. He got enough chances here, even after the golf course incident. To bring him back would be a complete failure on behalf of the FO, and the coaching staff, and Stephen Ross. His play is declining, and probably will continue to do so as his age keeps creeping up, his leadership and behavior is a complete disgrace. For a team, and a locker room that needs to still overcome the distractions of the mess Richie and company created, the team needs to rid themselves of all of it. The coaches are gone, Jerry likely isnt coming back, there's no need whatsoever for Richie to return. If he does... this franchise is just asking for even more of a mess. The media especially is just going to have a complete field day with us if we allow Richie back into this locker room. He's going to be playing this year, Im sure someone will take a chance on him, but there's no way in hell it should be us.
I just don't agree that based on the field that he was below average or average, I think the biggest misconception about him is he's un-athletic, Richie can move, and can anchor, and he's nasty..and he finishes.. Is he the best for this new scheme we plan on running, maybe not, but he's not average imo Vert.. I wrote a thread about him last year where I broke down a few hundred snaps, and I was suprised at how good he was.
I know he's not gonna be here, and I'm not mad at our front office for making that decision, I'm just thinkin out loud and imagining what it would be like if we had a real good culture here and a problem with a player happened, would we oust him, or try to help him.
Given the fact it prompted his removal, simply denying his return is a chicken**** move to suggest that whole charade is beneath, or behind us. Accepting him back will signal to any and all still lurking theres no unresolved issues here. It would imply to any lingering critics that there is absolute zero concern any such problem could arise, because although some things might have been missed before, there was never a glaring problem that couldn't be addressed or resolved to begin with. Bring him back, and simply allow our upgraded talent to put him behind us.
Hell no. I see nothing in him that tells me he is ready to change. Wasnt he kicked out of two colleges?
Could definitely be a valuable contributor to the team, but not worth the headache and drama. Hopefully he gets himself together and finds work elsewhere.
A strong case can be made against him from a team standpoint and coaching, off the field, etc. But, below average? That is simply not true. He was above average - that's why he made the Pro Bowl the year before. But, more than that accolade, he was a solid OG last year. It was the OTs and Jerry that looked bad.
We need a RG, if he works at a good value, bring him on down. That Martin B$ does not trouble me at all, what does trouble me is the whole baseball bat to ferrari thingy, like players to be aggressive, that is koo-koo for cocoa puffs nutty. Doubt Philbin or Ross would go for it, Coach Joe is well, not exactly high speed, low drag, and Ross could not deal with any more negative press.
I'm sure Cognito had to carry Martin on the field, Martin was a horrible left tackle, of course that's going to affect the guard next to him..
I've always viewed him as respectable talentwise. Short of game changing, a fiesty veteran presence, with a temperment suited for the trenches. I'm sure he's seeking nothing more than a chance to compete with any low profile, safe n' sane, wouldbe replacement.
Did the last six months not happen? Did we all ignore (like Ritchie) the wells report? There is enough blame to go around with Martin, incognito, and the rest but offering him another chance is ridiculous. He should have been gone long before he was. There was a puff piece somewhere that talked about him and his new relaxation and yoga and calmness. A month later and he's suspended. Nope. Not for me. Not for the phins. Even if we considered his play decent does his play exceed his baggage? With Pouncey, yes, with incognito, no.
I'm not hugely ok with Pouncey but I understand that it's a performance business. He's also a first time offender (although he may be a repeat idiot). Pouncey has too much potential and ability to let leave. Perhaps we suggest a cheeky trade for Alex Mack. I dunno. Incognito is a repeat offender. He's had numerous chances. A few days before the report came out he shouted how it would vindicate and absolve him. I didn't see that in the report. He's also 30. I think whatever ability he has is tainted with his attitude and antics.
Expecting it and accepting it are two different things. Just cause it happens elsewhere doesn't make it ok. Some of the stuff said about Martin in this forum after the event is pretty callous. The idea that he in some way invited this is bizarre.
I'd say he should go to the CFL but canadians are too nice, he'd be considered a multi-murderer in their eyes
He deserves a shot somewhere. What he did is call somebody names. No comparison to what others in the league have done.
I think you are viewing it all with an emotional bias. RI is not guilty of any crime yet some are trying to paint this as if it was some sort of crime against humanity. He is spoiled kid who has not grown up yet and made some immature decissions that were arguably in poor taste. If that is the new standard of who is eligable to play in the NFL than you might as well advocate for firing half the players out there. In fact in terms of being immature I would put Martin into that catagory as well. A mature adult does not let someone get under their skin to the point of not showing up to work. Nowhere in that report does it indicate that Martin tried to stop what was going on. What do you mean that RI is a repeat offender? RI is a solid player at a position of need for the Dolphins and at 30yrs, old barring injuries, he should still have several good years in front of him. He was already punished last year when he was suspended. He is good enough that someone will hire him this year, the only question is who. The Dolphins are not punishing him by not offering him a contract. They are punishing themselves by passing up on a good player that they need and would come cheap. Its poor choices like this take keep them stuck as perreinal losers.
He's a repeat offender in that he has a number of nfl fines against his name already. Did he not get benched for a couple of games by his coach previously? He sexually assaulted a female, then bought her silent. The whole Martin thing. The smashing up of a car. I'm not sure how wanting to pass on clearly unstable and immature players makes the dolphins weak. He's had a number of chances and blown them all. If Martin couldn't hack the pressure, incognito can't hack the discipline. I want the dolphins to be excellent. Having incognito will not be the difference.
Pouncey is bad news. Too many drug problems circling his name every other minute. I agree with this. I don't think it matters....Philbin doesn't want Cogs back.
In life sometimes it takes great consequences to see yourself and aspire to change, this circumstance and why I can find forgiveness is about intentions, I don't believe the intentions of the man were maliscious, I believe he has been punished enough for being an immature drunk, in life sometimes it takes time to understand how to be intuitive to others insecurities and how to make someone feel good about themselves, obviously Cognito had not reached that point in his, however, when the revelation does happen, it can be a powerful platform to unite and inspire, to see someone go that low and have everything taken away from him, and change to someone with great compassion and show a willingness too change, can make folks closer..I'd bet that deep down, Cognito would be the first one to watch a teammates back, that is a foundation to work with, these happenings may be able to teach him how to be a better human being.
Incognito exhibits literally none of these personality traits. Let it go. He isn't even a good offensive lineman, so there's no on field justification for putting up with him.
A lot of people seem to be forgetting the fact that, aside from Martin, Incognito relentlessly bullied staffers, trainers, and innocent volunteers. He's a lunatic.
I thought this whole mess was finally behind us when Martin was traded and Cogs officially became a UFA. Now Cogs comes out of the woodwork (Mental Institution in this case) with this. Beat it! Can't believe people are taking this seriously.
