I don't think he was comparing Decker's and Wallace's ability as wide receivers. I believe he was comparing contracts.
Wallace did what he has always done, beat defenses. His play certainly didn't match his cap number, but that's not completely his fault.
I won't disagree with you there. What was his cap number last season and what is it this year? Wasn't something like 19 million?
I looked it up. 3.25 mil last year, 17.25 mil this year. I believe he is the highest paid WR in the league.
I don't know what you mean by 'in-between'. To me, either a guy is a dirty player or he isn't. It's black-and-white. You either cross the line or you don't. There are guys who play with intensity and integrity, like a Zach Thomas.... and then, there are guys who might play with intensity, but occasionally take cheap shots. That's Finnegan, and there is a distinct difference, IMO. I don't care what the guy might have done in a totally hypothetical situation. What Finnegan ACTUALLY DID do was over the line. There is no excuse for it. So, you're saying a CB full-force jabs a WR in the face right at the snap... the WR retaliates by ripping off the CB's helmet... the CB punches the WR in the side of the helmet... then the WR raps the CB upside his head at least two good times, maybe three (I'm not sure if the last uppercut connected, but I really hope it did), knocking the CB to the ground... and it 'might' be the WR's fault because he ripped the CB's helmet off? I'm not sure how you can make that argument. It's blatantly obvious what happened. Finnegan was butt-hurt Johnson out-muscled him on the previous play and decided to punk out. Andre Johnson whipped his butt for it. We didn't sign Delmas, so, I don't care about him right now. When he's signed, I'll address him. I do agree that going after a guy's knees is worse. However, what Finnegan has done... AT TIMES... is just about as bad as going after somebody's knees, in my opinion. It's Warren Sapp's totally unnecessary cheap shot block behind a return that almost ended a guy's career, or Suh picking up QBs and driving them into the turf, or Hines Ward's numerous cheap shot blocks that have now been made illegal. Knocking the snot out of a guy... legally... I'm all for. Cheap shots on undefended players? Not at all. That isn't football... that's just cowardly. It was a piece designed to make him look good. It was not journalism. But, you can believe whatever you want.
Theres nothing wrong with RTs deep ball IMO. He missed a lot of throws but that's a given when throwing deep, it's a low percentage play. What we need is more deep throws to Wallace per game, ideally in the 4-6 range like vs Carolina. Instead it was typically 1-2 per game in 2013 and I think that had more to do with pass pro than anything else.
By in between I'd say there are degrees of dirty play. Not all dirty players are equal are they? Some are worse than others IMO. So whiler he does some things that are chippy, trying to get inside the receiver's head, gain an edge, etc, and while he is no boy scout, I was merely wondering if he is really as bad as his reputation. If he is that bad, I'd have expected to see more penalties. We signed Delmas on March 10th. You must have missed it.
I don't understand why they would give Finnegan that contract. Why not just re-sign Nolan Carroll? Finnegan can't play anymore, he's done.
Until we see how the contract is structured, there is no point in getting upset about it. If it's heavily backloaded with little or no guaranteed money there's not much to complain about. If it's $1.5 million for the first year and $9.5 million for the second, would you have a problem with that as a low risk deal with some potential upside if he returns to his pre-2012 form? That's a very optimistic opinion. RT struggled with deep balls even with a clean pocket, but he can improve.
Finnegan didn't draw many flags. He got away with a lot. At least he did with the Titans. That was my brain fart. I was thinking of a Texans DT, not Delmas, the Lions safety we actually signed. I know next to nothing about him. I had a Lions fan buddy of mine tell me he's good when he's healthy. I never heard he was considered a dirty player.
We signed the Texans DT too. As for Delmas, it just seems like more of a characteristic among safeties, than corners, to hit receivers and ball carriers about the knee with their helmet or shoulder pads. Seems like the NFL approves of this now though. Players on the other hand say they'd rather be hit up high than around the knees. I never used the word dirty for Delmas, just that I'd more expect him to take out a knee on a tackle than I would Finnegan.
He can throw it plenty deep, just not deep and accurate at the same time. For passes over 30 yards, someone posted completion pcts a while back and I seem to recall he was on the low end of the scale among current QBs.
My bad, I wasn't saying he missed throws bc of pass pro, it's more like we didn't go deep often enough bc of pass pro. With better pass pro we can go vertical more often and be more creative about the ways we do it.
Was talking to a Steelers fan at a concert tonight. He said Wallace can go get the ball and has hands like a magnet. He flat out has too much speed. He didn't know why Pittsburg got rid of him. Tannehill too often made him stop and wait for the ball. He needs to figure that out and get a little more accurate on the post route.
Keep in mind we are talking about an offense that couldn't run the ball or pass protect. An offense that was centered on throwing short to medium passes, and struggled to protect the QB even on those. Fix the the run game, improve the pass pro, then there will be more opportunities to go deep. If that happens we will see more connections and the near misses won't stick in everyone's memory the way they did last year.
Serious question, did RT throw a single post route to Wallace last year? I honestly don't recall one.
What does Post Route Mean? A route run by a receiver in football that requires the receiver to run 10-20 yards up the field and turn at a 45 degree angle towards the center of the field. The post route is a mid-to-deep range route that is often run in combination with similar routes like the fly and corner. I guess I should have said more of a fly route. He did miss on a Post route against Carolina, but that was Wallace's fault IMO because the ball hit him in the ends.
While I'm of the opinion that the deep ball issue was of equal blame to them both at times, Tannehill and Wallace will have something they didn't have last year. Lazor gun pewpew.
Im tellin yall.... Stone Cold Lock... Tannehill is gonna tear that **** up next season. Mark it down..put it in your sig, what ever. Dolphins will play in the AFC Championship game this coming season. Yes...Im buzzin from my Java this am...but Im feelin it.
I disagree - not about the pass pro but his percentage is low and - as we are discussing in the thread on RT - his mechanics on deep throws are not consistent. He doesn't throw in rhythm. He is shuffling his feet and double pumping too much and other times he is guiding the ball (that's from a lack of confidence). When he throws deep he needs to be confident, and time himself in the pocket just as on other throws. Then, let it fly. And stop thinking about it. Too much of it is in his head.
“@RavensInsider: Cortland Finnegan two-year $11 million deal: $2M bonus, $5.5M total gteed, $3.5M salary '14 full gteed, $5.45 M non gteed in '15” Yikes.
Ok, now that I see the details of the deal, I'm not impressed at all. Here's hoping the injuries were the reason for his drop off the past couple of years and that he's past them now. I would however like to see the terms of the deal shown someplace other than a Twitter feed by a non involved party, before I consider it gospel.
Eh, its certainly not a crippling deal. He has a good rep as a locker room guy from what I've seen from titans fans. It aint my money, good for him
Thurmond got a one year deal for $3.5 M. We're paying Finnegan 1 year, $5.45 M. Plus, $2 M guaranteed (bonus). All I can say is that he better a) better be in great shape coming into camp and b) he needs to play like he did a couple of years ago. I guess they think his toughness will be beneficial on the D. But, if he does return to his past abilities, then its a good deal.
