First off I did watch him play during the 2011 season. I evaluated his 2011 tape, watching around four games. I also obviously saw every game he played in Miami in 2013. So this is not all stat based by any means. Heading into free agency I talked about Grimes being by far the best corner on the free agent market if he were 100% healthy and playing like he did in 2011 which was obviously a big if, and I based all of that on how well I saw him play in 2011. That said, from a pure statistics standpoint he allowed only 25 of 56 passes to be completed in his coverage for a mere 258 yards with 12 passes defensed in 2011. He did this on 459 coverage snaps. He also had 13 "stops" and 47 tackles with only 6 missed tackles on 706 total plays. In 2013 he allowed 59 of 98 passes to be completed in his coverage for 730 yards with 14 passes defensed. He did this on 641 coverage snaps. He had only 9 "stops" and 62 total tackles with 10 missed tackles in 1132 snaps. Virtually any measure you look at with those numbers shows a large qualitative difference. He went from allowing 47% completion to 60% completion. He went from knocking away 21% of the attempts to only 14% of the attempts. He went from allowing 10.3 yards per completion to allowing 12.4 yards per completion, and in turn these factors led to his yards per attempt climbing from a STELLAR 4.6 yards per attempt to really a below average 7.5 yards per attempt. Additionally he went from a stellar 0.56 yards per coverage snap to again an average looking 1.14 yards per coverage snap (literally twice as high as 2011). Then you look at the "stop" figures and he goes from a stop every 54 plays to a stop every 126 plays...which is half as often. He goes from having a missed tackle for every 7.8 tackles to a missed tackle for every 6.2 tackles. And, for whatever it is worth to people, PFF gave him a +17.2 grade on his 706 snaps in 2011 versus a +16.4 on his 1132 snaps in 2013. The way PFF's grades work, they are cumulative. If you were to normalize the two grades into a "per 1000 snaps" basis, you would have a +24.4 in 2011 versus a +14.5 in 2013. Yes I am reasonably confident that although the 2013 Brent Grimes was very good, he was not as good as the 2011 Brent Grimes. Whether that was age or injury related is up for debate. I would personally choose to say that the two are inextricably linked.
And if I'm on grimes team, and you take that stat into negotiations, and you try to ignore what I am, what I did last year, what my body type is, how I might actually be better in my 2nd year after the injury, you will lose me to another team because your generalizing me with people who are not me, and lowballing what I have accomplished.. Bottom line, if that is your basis for negotiation, you just disrespected my game, and didn't even take into account I might be different if you took your head out of the stat book.. You cannot build a team this way, you will lose players, in this case, your instinct and knowledge of the body and measurables is the way to go.
Well, so much for that logic. Unless being totally wrong makes you media... Which in todays world, unfortunately may be the case.
Another ****ing *******, and why I never share **** in the main forum, never will again either. Pay for club level.
Some people don't get it. Were the Dolphins supposed to sign him AND use the tag? It's like, logic ceases to exist when you want/need to hate for no reason.
It's pretty pitiful to see someone bashing for a rumor that can't be proved or disproved. If anything, the fact that the team worked out a long term deal with him before the deadline would seem to indicate that the threat was made, wouldn't it?
Agreed. I'd totally let him blow me...... Seriously, Sect's stuff is usually dead nuts. He called the Philbin wanting Martin and Cogs gone literally & the Philbin/Ireland rift months before the season was even over.
The franchise tag was $10m last year for CBs. What is it this year, $11m? His contract is guaranteed for two years, $17m or something like that? It's obvious they were going to franchise the guy but hey, you don't need the franchise the guy if you work out a deal. It's so elementary I can't believe there was a brouhaha over it.
Thanks Section we all have to endure some of that bs for some reason. Glad they kept Grimes off the market and it ended up being a bargain, which should show us Grimes wants to play in Miami.
I appreciate section very much. I've Been a member on this forum for many years and love his posts. But what I don't love is when I Simply asked early on in the thread if anyone had a link or saw any news outlets reporting it because I couldn't find it anywhere else and the response I got was that section IS media. When This thread was first posted, it was not labeled a rumor. It was stated as fact. Brent Grimes Feanchised Tagged. With no sources or details. It proved to be wrong. I have nothing against any member. But I do think posting news should be done to a certain standard. With facts or sources. OR, label it as a rumor. Which was not the case when I initially posted asking if anyone had a source or link
