Nice. Stability at CB now with a guy coming off a great year. Lord knows we need that stability somewhere.

I'm not complaining for solid #1 CB, 8 mil a year is a fair contract. We all wish he was younger but the guy is athletically a freak.

He's the type of guy we need to build this team with, high talent and high character.

If you're referring to Taylor/Davis then this is debatable, they have shown nothing. We just locked up our top corner but Carroll can walk and Patterson will be cut.

I think the age concern for CBs has been a little overstated. Obviously each player is different and one can't really predict when someone will lose it, but there is a pretty strong history of CBs playing very well far into their mid-30s: Darell Green, Deion Sanders, Aeneas Williams, Rod Woodson, Charles Woodson, Champ Bailey, Ronde Barber, etc.

Well, I'm not going to invest a ton of money in more CBs. Need to give them a chance. I'd re-sign Carrol to a friendly deal... and then live with Taylor/Davis/JimmyS as my next 3 CBs. And if one of the youngsters overtakes Carrol... all the better!

Not too mention, people can argue with DJ about stadiums, crowds, culture, etc. but that SOB knows his athletic bodies...and he says Grimes declining soon is not gonna happen. I can think of no stronger endorsement.

Extremely serious. I am legitimately of the opinion that DJ's word on the physical make up of a player is gospel. Honestly, when has he been wrong?

Well the guaranteed isn't much more then what it would have taken to franchise him. Will wait to see the breakdown though.

I think the age thing for ANY position is overstated. There are countless guys at every spot that play at a high level until their mid to late 30's. It's all comes down to how you take care of your body, along with a little luck.

Said it about a month ago, best all a round corner play I've seen in a dolphin uniform, Sam had a hell of a season but couldn't tackle for sh&$... Grimes will stick your ***, plays calm and collected in big pressure moments, reads the play beautifully, and reacts in an explosive manner..

    You just named HOF's and that's why they're HOF's.

We'll see how this deal ends up shaking out. Miami was in a really tough position. The one player that hit on in FA. One of the best players at his position. You can't let him go. Most people will be calling it a win, but I'm just not so sure.

Thanks bud, it's a fast twitch hi metabolism scenario, that #### ages slower..I watch and rewatch a little closer to certain things that the normal viewer might not focus on.his break was explosive, his reactionary time was really cat quick, his vert was elite, and he's now 1 year removed from that Achilles, there's some theories out there that these Achilles surgeries that are being repaired are coming out stronger than the original, looks like he's got a thick rubber bands in his..

When you combine a fast twitch hi metabolism physique with what seemingly is a very good work ethic in the gym, He's pretty damn close to being in his prime..

If he avoids the freak injury I think we will get the same level of consistent play for three years.

Very fair deal, win win for both sides....hoping it is front-loaded (age) at 16M guaranteed that's 2 years fully guanteed, after that he can be cut while having no dead cap space.....

Essentially it is a 2 year deal and a prove 2 year deal the rest of the contract...that sounds about right for him....Well done Dennis...

Remember the infamous Monday Night Miracle loss? I cannot get over the play where Madison let a sure int get through his hands in the end zone and instead tipped it to Lav Coles, and then had a big ol' sh*t eating grin about it right afterwards, and that play and score was what opened the floodgates for the Jets comeback. He should have been gawd damned pissed off over that play, regardless the score.

I don't think Deion Sanders, Rod Woodson or Champ Bailey are good examples at all for why Brent Grimes could show the longevity needed to make this contract worth it.

I think Ronde Barber and Charles Woodson are better examples. Darrell Green showed a lot of longevity in his career (probably the most of any corner in NFL history and probably the most any corner will ever show) but he didn't exactly play well during those 32+ years. Certainly not consistently well.

Overall I think the problem here is selection bias. If we dig back through the annals of NFL history with the thousands of corners that have played the position over the least three decades, yes I'm sure you'll be able to pick out a handful of guys that you can look at and say that guy right there showed some remarkable longevity and therefore Brent Grimes could do the same.

But of course, how many hundreds of unnamed guys are you completely discarding in order to settle on that handful? How many dozens of the Pat Surtains, Sam Madisons, Will Allens, Andre Goodmans, Charles Tillmans, Cortland Finnegans, Nnamdi Asomughas, Shawn Springs, Ike Taylors, Cedric Griffins, Rashean Mathis, Nate Clements, Samari Rolles, Marcus Trufants, Mike McKenzies, Quentin Jammers, Anthony Henrys, Ty Laws, Dunta Robinsons, Terence Newmans, Chris McAlisters, Tramon Williams and Dre Blys are we disregarding and leaving unnamed so that we can find the bare handful of guys that demonstrated the ideal longevity?

I think the disconnect is that you are basing your opinion off of the odds and DJ is basing his on his understanding of Grimes' physical make up.

I think if its a common accepted practice for people (like yourself) to predict the quality of a player by watching tape, then I think its an equally acceptable practice for a person like DJ (with professional knowledge of the athletic body and how it works) to predict the longevity of a players playing level by watching tape.

Would like to see Jackson here for Wheeler but that is a pipe dream. The way his contract is written, we use up a lot of cap space if we release him...next offseason, different story, but this year, I don't see him going anywhere...too expensive to dump him...

Probably about ten to fifteen years old. The layout and furniture are identical to the main conference room down the street in the Huizenga Business School. I suspect the same designers worked on both facilities.

I like optimism but....really...We are not that far off from the Pats again?. Toe to Toe with a depleted NE team at home, won on the last play in the end zone. You mention the Buffalo debacle, any mention on the Jets debacle right after that. Think the Pats have any plans to get better? Do you think right now Bills or Jets fans fear this Dolphin team the way the season played out? Can we just worry about this team getting better than always saying that we are right there with the Pats...we are not..not yet anyway.

They are HOFers because they were great players, not necessarily because of the longevity (although that didn't hurt). The point is that CBs don't necessarily decline much at all after 30. Some do and some don't, just like just about every other position.

If Wheeler is on the roster he is a 6.4mil cap hit. 5 mil guaranteed salary and 1.4 prorated signing bonus. The dead money if cut would be 10.6 mil. I think we are stuck with him for one more year. Best to just hope he improves.
