I am really going to miss watching CC pitch here. Every time he took the mound you felt the Tribe was gonna win. Oh well sounds like we are getting some good prospects so it should work out ok.
* Dodgers Targeting Jack Wilson John Perrotto of the Beaver County Times wrote an article Sunday concerning the Dodgers' pursuit of Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson. Wilson, 30, is hitting .306/.348/.361 in 160 plate appearances this year. He's under contract next year for $7.25MM with an $8.4MM club option for '10. Wilson can block trades to six teams. Perrotto wrote that Wilson is the Dodgers' primary trade target. He says "a Dodgers source indicated that Los Angeles might be willing to deal center fielder Matt Kemp." A Kemp acquisition would create a logjam until the Pirates are able to move Jason Bay or Xavier Nady. Failing that, Perrotto's sources indicate the Bucs have interest in pitcher James McDonald and shortstop Chin-lung Hu. Ken Rosenthal wrote this morning that the Dodgers' bid for Wilson is on hold as they restructure their offer. If the Dodgers get him, that should eliminate any chance of re-signing Rafael Furcal.
4 for 1? Shades of the Len Barker trade. Atlanta got Barker The Tribe got Bret Butler, Brook Jacoby and Rick Behenna. Butler and Jacoby went on to be all stars, Barker did nothing for Atlanta. Good trade for the Brewers, unlike the Braves back then I think they have a smaller window to make the playoffs in the future.
per the Boston Herald about Mark Teixiera Massarotti says the Red Sox are "closely monitoring" Braves first baseman Mark Teixeira. Their interest will be linked to David Ortiz's health.
Saw that...the full item is here: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view.bg?articleid=1105377&srvc=rss Tony Massarotti of the Boston Herald takes a look at Boston's wish list, some of which could be fulfilled via trade this month. The Red Sox are still looking for an heir to Jason Varitek's throne. Apparently the Sox have inquired about catching prospects. The Rangers are considered to have the game's largest surplus at the position. Julio Lugo is signed through 2010, but the Red Sox are looking for a better long-term option at short. Massarotti doesn't mention how Jed Lowrie fits into the plan. Massarotti says the Red Sox are "closely monitoring" Braves first baseman Mark Teixeira. Their interest will be linked to David Ortiz's health. The Sox are also in the market for a left-handed setup man. Names to consider: George Sherrill, Brian Fuentes, Damaso Marte, Ron Mahay, and Jeremy Affeldt.
There is no way the Dodgers give up Matt Kemp for Jack Wilson. It simply won't happen. They walked away from C.C. Sabathia when they asked for MAtt Kemp, I doubt they do it for Jack Wilson. Especially since Nomar is now back to fill th egap and L.A. has gotten themselves into first place. If Jack Wilson comes cheaply, then maybe they give up a minor league prospect for him, but not major leaguers like Matt Kemp.
Unless the Pirates are willing to pay a big chunk of his salary, I wouldn't give up more than an autographed bat and some Dodger Dogs for Wilson. If they give up Matt Kemp, Ned Colletti should be taken behind Dodger Stadium and shot. I would love for the Mets to get Nady; he's exactly what they need.
Hes a top 3 defensive SS in the league (one of the more popular Pirates players with the fans) just so you know. And we are not really after any of your outfielders (but i heard we probably wouldn't turn them down if they were tossed in the deal somewhere). They (pirates) want a Sp prospect and maybe some guy named Ha that plays shortstop. As of now our outfielders are better than the dodgers anyway. Our pitching is horrific.
Ain't no "your" about it: I'm a Mets fan. Wilson is a good fielding shortstop who can't hit. Those are a dime a dozen, and they certainly don't rate a $6.5M per year salary. Yes, I know. We traded him for Roberto Hernandez and Oliver Headcase. And if he's on the market, I'd like for the Mets to get him back.
Do the Mets have any top notch pitching talent in the minors? Because Nady from what I hear is the most likely to be gone but have not heard the Mets name in any discussion.
I'll laugh my *** off if the Mets re-acquire Nady. Hey while they're at it, how about trying to get Scott Kazmir. Kazmir for Geremi Gonzalez = Best. Deal. Evar
Harden & Chad Gaudin to the Cubs in a 6 player deal. Gallanger, Murton, Patterson going to the A's. I think it might be a steal for Chicago.
looks like a steal to me but then again im not sure if they were unloading money or what. Who is Gallanger?
His name is Hu and I would trade him for Jack Wilson straight up and that is it. If it costs the Dodgers a starting pitching prospect (like Meloan or McDonald) I would declare a state of emergency for L.A. and do exactly what phunwin said should happen to Colletti.
Yea I dont think the Pirates front office thinks it will happen. They dont really want to trade Jack but they figure if the do they will get the better end of the deal.
Wow, I'm surprised the A's would give up Gaudin also. Cubs got two nice pitchers in the deal. I wonder if they're going to use Gaudin in the starting rotation or keep him as a RP? I cant say I know much about the prospects that Oakland is getting in return, other than Gallagher and Murton, but as an Angels fan I'm glad Harden is gone. I've watched Beane win most of the trades he's been a part of, so it's hard for me to go against his instincts in any deal he makes. Cant see how this improves them for this year though, which makes me happy.
Yeah, was running on treadmill when news broke....very nice move: Cubs Acquire Rich Harden, Chad Gaudin http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10890977 5:36pm: The Cubs' press release is out. The Cubs get Harden and Chad Gaudin for Gallagher, Murton, Patterson, and catching prospect Josh Donaldson. Jim Hendry did his best to counter the Brewers' acquisition of CC Sabathia. The A's get three MLB-ready players plus a solid offense-oriented catching prospect. 5:25pm: Dave Kaplan of WGN Radio in Chicago reports that the Cubs have acquired Rich Harden from the A's. Sean Gallagher is reportedly part of the deal, and possibly Matt Murton. Hal McCoy says Eric Patterson and another minor leaguer are also included. More when I have it. Harden, 26, has been dominant in 13 starts for the A's this year. The injury-prone Harden is a tantalizing player; he's only topped 130 innings once but has a career ERA of 3.42. The latest concern: decreased velocity/dead arm in his last start. Harden has a $7MM club option for '09, which is highly likely to be exercised.
THats unbelievable!!!!... you were running on a treadmill? If Harden can stay healthy that is a RIDICULOUS 1-2-3 punch the Cubs have.
how many years left does harden have? cubs are building a very nice team for years to come not just this year
At 26, its not the age...its clearly the health. If healthy heck, yeah, this could be huge for cubs for next few years at least. I like the 4 guys the A's received in return, especially with Hardens injury risk...so its not as much a gamble and Billy Bean loves to tinker and build with youth. heck, the rumor is the C is the or could be the best of the 4.
Ok, but Shoes answered that and it was in the post above to...LOL....sorry! To much information, but atleast its quick.
Don't short yourself you also recieved Bartolome Fortunato. He gave you 18 and 2/3 innings and even got a save. Not all was lost.
Honestly I'm shocked about this. Billy Beane is one of the best GMs in the game but really that's all he got? I like Gallagher's upside and I do think Murton could be an above average everyday OFer in the MLB but it seems like he got a couple of spare parts that the Cubs didn't have a need for. Then again it's Billy Beane and I'm sure he shopped Harden around hard and I'm sure it was tough getting good players because of Harden's injury history.
sitting here on a rain delay already have had a 2:45 rain delay they came back and an inning later back at it.
* Bonds A Consideration For D'Backs? It seems that D'Backs outfielder Eric Byrnes is out for the season. The team could certainly continue to get by with Conor Jackson in left field and Chad Tracy at first. Or, they could just pick up a lefty-masher on the cheap to complement Tracy. GM Josh Byrnes admits he's looking at outside options, and seems to crave more than a platoon bat to give the offense a jolt. When asked about Barry Bonds, Byrnes responded: He and maybe a couple of others are sort of sitting out there. I think it's a bit of assessing any player's readiness, then knocking somebody out of the lineup, dollars, etc. I don't want to talk about him specifically, but, believe me, we've considered a lot of options. There is sort of no one obvious option right now, but there are a lot of considerations. Maybe we're reaching, but this is the closest we've seen to consideration of Bonds in a long time. Piecoro believes Bonds has been discussed. Piecoro tosses out Kenny Lofton as another option. The D'Backs could also consider some of the same corner outfielders I named for the Mets - Adam Dunn, for example.
Does anyone here honestly believe that Harden will be healthy enough to make that big of an impact for the Cubs down the stretch? Didn't think so. It's too bad Prior isn't around those parts anymore, could you imagine a rotation of him, Wood and Harden. Team Club Med.
Phunwin is really gonna hate me for saying this, but remember the 'Big 3' of the Mets in the Mid 90's? Believe it was Isringhausen, Pulsipher, and Paul Wilson I thought Prior, Wood, and Zambrano were going to be a serious rotation for a LONG time. Just makes the years together that Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz all that more sweet
But remember prior to that Braves staff it was Smoltz, Glavine, and Avery! Or the Marlins of Beckett, Penny, Burnett, and Willis
Actually if you wanna be techincal it was Glavine, Smoltz, Avery and Pete Smith. And those Marlins pitchers didnt play together very long
