I just wanted to ask peoples opinion on what they would do if Jordan once again can not crack the starting lineup.
Honestly, I wouldn't. I'd actually be more concerned if he isn't improving as a pass rusher this year. At this moment, I'd just heavily rotate Wake, Vernon, and Jordan. Of course, I'd actually like to move Dion to LB, but that's JMO.
No. Cam Wake is 32 and we have no idea when he starts to break down. Besides, as Seattle proved... more pass rushers = good.
Your right and if we don't make the playoffs again(like I expect) we have a whole new coaching staff next year and who knows maybe we will be back to a 3-4 defence.
Jordan has not reached his potential yet just as JT did not reach his potential until a few years of playing. Here is what JT recently said “He’s a very talented kid,” Taylor told Rose. “I haven’t heard from him. I met him a couple times. He has so much potential. You see some of the raw athletic things he does. You say, ‘Wow.’ Similar to when Cam Wake came in. First practice, you said, ‘Holy Cow.” He said the same thing about Wake before anyone knew his name .In fact he humbly said that he thought he would have a bigger impact than himself. He was right and I trust his observation on Jordan too. Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sports-buzz/#storylink=cpy
Dion Jordan was a wasted pick, and is an unnecessary weight on salary cap. You trade him to free up money cause he is not worth it.
No, you don't trade Dion Jordan. You don't trade him even if he can't beat out OV again this year. His versatility in sub-packages should garner him "starter" snap numbers even if he's not in the base defense. I think his potential is through the roof and you keep him and keep developing him until he's good enough to unseat OV and/or Cameron Wake starts to show his age.
No, trading Dion Jordan would be dumb. I thought we were trying new things in 2014, like not being dumb....
Dealing Jordan would result in 17 million in dead cap. It is madness to even entertain the idea. Next year, maybe, if he just doesn't fit. http://overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Dolphins&Year=2014
The Dolphins could, however trade Olivier Vernon for a high draft pick or multiple picks and make Jordan the starter. Proven double digit pass rushers with the versatility and durability of Vernon don't grow on trees. His trade value right now is extremely high IMO. Maybe even 1st round if the Dolphins throw in another player or a late round pick.
We have too much invested in Jordan to give up on him and trade him away this soon. People weren't too enthused about Wake when he first arrived, just as they did Vernon when he first arrived. The worst case scenario would be that we trade Jordan and then Wake or Vernon went down with an injury and we are once again scrambling to put together an adequate pass rush.
If he doesn't beat out Oliver you're not going to get more than 4th round pick offers for an unproven guy that isn't able to win a starting job. So my opinion is no. Now would I trade him before training camp/the draft to the Eagles if they called and offered a 1st and 4th round pick? Probably.
You mistake Cam Wake for a normal man, he isn't. He is an extraordinary individual. I'm not even talking about his 46 inch vertical or 4.5 speed. I'm talking about his discipline, work ethic, the way he goes to extreme measures to take of his body, his phenomenal rise from reject, off to Canada, to all pro multi pro bowl NFL star. Cam, is just the kind of, lead by example, high character veteran that the Dolphins desperately need more of. If there is anybody in the league right now who is a candidate to be the next London Fletcher, it is Cam Wake. Trading Derek Cameron Wake would be an egregious sin.
I agree that Jordan was a bad choice. It cost a valuable pick (I'd rather have traded the extra pick for an extra one this year - especially with several scouts and pundits indicating this is a pretty deep draft). But, can't trade him and take the cap hit. And, we would not come close to fair value. I'd rather see if he can become explosive.
Trade Hartline??????????????????? I disagree with that premise. If I said what I really thought the mods wouldn't be happy. C'mon guy, 2 straight 1000 yard seasons. Tannehills favorite target. Why????
I'd say it's a damn good thing if OV beats out Jordan...that would mean he's a pretty good player.... DJ will develop...imagine Wake, OV, DJ all rushing the passer....could be an interesting wrinkle for offenses...
Concept of player development completely foreign to some fans. Trade a 1st round draft pick after his second season....... yeesh.
My biggest concern is about dion Jordan is his inability to set the edge as a 4-3 defensive end.He needs to get stronger and hopefully his shoulder issues are behind him.
this shouldnt even be an issue. jordan should be at olb. once again, it comes down to dumb coaching (kind of a theme with this team for the last 10+ years) i dont want to trade vernon. he's only going to get better. keep him at defensive end.
Evans will probably be gone by our pick. He will probably be the second receiver off the board, but he would be a great addition. I just don't see him being the pick.
Trade Jordan? Nope. Keep him. Wake won't last forever so we need to build and coach up for the future.
We drafted Dion Jordan because of his exceptional physical tools, despite knowing that he was raw and coming off a serious shoulder injury. His first year is purely as a developmental player. Which sucks for a #3 overall pick, but the trick is to get the maximum value from him despite him not being an every down player yet. We could have used him as a pass rush specialist in the mold of Trace Armstrong, yet in order for Dion to learn how to play the run he has to be exposed to running situations in games. So what's good for the team right now may not be what's good for the team in 2 or 3 years down the track. Just like we have Tannehill sitting back in the pocket rather than running around like a headless chicken a la Michael Vick - having RT scrambling may help the team win a game or two this season, but the assessment has been made to keep him in the pocket.
Yep, fairly simple concept really. I think Dio's real forte will be Adalius Thomas like flexibility, keep in mind he was handling GronK in coverage, adding passrushing to his repetoire only increases his value to the Defense Said this when Dio was drafted, would not surprise me if Cam Wake is traded, perhaps even on Draft Day, GM sees Vernon, Shelby and Jordan in the wings, and the needs on the OL and losses in FA, would not surprise me a bit to see him moved.
Agree with Coral here. Besides, you can't just think about this year. You have to think about the future. At what point does Wake start to decline? If we can manage to fix our OL and our LB'ers improve, having an extra good(assuming he develops) pass rusher isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as we can afford them all. As much as we all hate to think about it or admit it, this team isn't a contender right now. We still have a lot of gaping holes on our roster, a QB who needs to develop, some big money contracts that need to step up their play and a lot of players who need to develop.
Per PFF, DJordan was the most productive rookie pass rusher last season... this with very limited playing time and also spending time in coverage. Let's keep him... ;-) https://www.profootballfocus.com/bl...stats-pass-rushing-productivity-edge-rushers/
Exactly. Even if he isn't good enough to start, but improves his pass rush, he is worth keeping on the team. If this really is a passing league, like everyone says, then having 2 really good pass rusher and 1 pretty good one is a great thing to have.
Indeed. Jordan should be fully healthy, fully vested in the schemes, as well as bigger, stronger, and faster. Expecting him to explode this season.
What do you think of Benjamin from FSU? Similar skill set but I saw him working the middle of the field more than Evans. Could be a scheme issue but I def think we need a guy who can attack the seams and serve as a red zone target.
