Damn. Love or hate mando, this is a great and to the point letter.

"you have no plans to say a word about the report."

"This year you helped author a disaster."

"Your problem is that Thursday at 2:15 p.m. Hickey will step to the podium at the Indianapolis Combine"
But he "had nothing to do with the harassment scandal." He'll be "the first Dolphins employee who will be asked about the harassment scandal"

Not a huge Armando fan but he is right.

Philbin owes the fans an explanation, and he owes it to the organization that continues to employ him against all odds.

If you stand up and take the heat, the matter will go away. The longer he stays silent, the worse it will be.

It is blowing my mind that Turner still has a job. Philbin always talks about no nonsense and character guys who keep their mouth shut, yet when his OL coach participates in the bullying and is this incompetent he doesn't fire him? SMH

Every time I refresh the site I keep thinking that this will be the time that I see the Turner fired post, but it still hasn't happened. The only thing I can think of is that they're waiting for official league sanctions to come down. That they haven't addressed it at all is typical, and disappointing.

Aponte is writing his cue cards as we speak. Until then, he isn't prepared to speak to the media.

There are still many questions that he needs to answer, which Armando pointed out.

The notion that he has nothing to say, I believe is inaccurate.

At the very least, he needs to explain why Turner is still employed and what he did to follow up with Martin after their meeting in May. And then he needs to explain what his plans are for moving forward.

Just another reporter that's butt-hurt because someone won't feed them a story. Philbin is the head coach of the Dolphins, and not the Miami media.

    Armando is a joke.

His press conferences are usually painful to watch anyway. I have never seen a person more uncomfortable in front of a microphone in my life.

Armando nails this except for one part. He again tried to imply an inappropriate (sexual) relationship between Joe Philbin and Dawn Aponte.

Armando tried to disguise it, but the fact of the matter is if Dawn Aponte were a male then nobody would consider the relationship to be "curious". By casting it in that light he's drawing attention to the fact that it's a man and a woman being more tightly aligned than one would suspect from business titles alone and that is supposed to imply the possibility of sex. If Dawn Aponte were a man then she'd just be considered Philbin's ally and that would be that. There'd be nothing "curious" about it.

Considering he's been fired, I'm not sure an open letter is necessary.

His thoughts no longer have any ebaring on the team, so not sure it matters what he might have to say. Other than for curiosity purposes.

CK is dead on about the Aponte bit. If this was a male he certainly wouldn't imply anything inappropriate. Kinda a scumbag move to put that in there. I do think Philbin should get out in front of this though. The part about "simulated" sex acts at practice is stupid. Squeezing a water bottle is just a juvenile behavior.nobody would think anything other than that unless they heard the words to put it in context.

    1. Because he thinks Turner is a good coach.

    2. Nothing, there was no follow up.

    3. Plans going forward? Try to win the SB.

It certainly would be nice for the head coach to give us all the details, but I don't really see any benefit for the team. In fact it likely will just lead to more questions and derision.

I didn't read it that way at all. It is a "curious business relationship" when the HC and Executive VP team up against the GM, it's more than weird.

I think it would be relatively easy for Philbin to get out in front of this stuff and explain it.

Did I see simulated sex acts on the practice field? Answer is either "No I didn't," or "I didn't see anything that I haven't seen a hundred times before across half a dozen locker rooms and that did not result in accusations of an unsafe work environment". Done.

Why didn't I have more in-depth conversations with Jon Martin after incidents described in the report in May? "I did. Several times. I'm not a psychologist so I don't know what you would have expected me to be able to do, but I did refer him to our team psychologist." Done.

Did I see him missing the workout and showing up drunk as a warning sign? "No, I saw it as a discipline issue. We handled it as a discipline issue within the team." Done.

Why did I let Incognito be a captain after the incident in 2012? "The players vote on the team captains and I did not want to break their trust by interfering with that process. It would have been more scandalous if I had." Done.

Why is Jim Turner still with the team? "The league is still in the process of determining the correct course of action in the wake of the report's findings and we're working closely with the league to that end. No decisions have been made yet but we will let you know when they have." Done.

    "Next question."

It doesn't take a goddamn genius to think of how to handle this. But it's because Philbin chooses to hide from the press instead of getting out in front of it that he's taking criticism like this. He comes off looking like a coward and looking like this job is indeed too big for him.

He needs to, but you know he won't. I've got my "Tony Sparano Countdown Clock", patent pending, set for the 2015 season already. Hickey will go out there and say that he wasn't around so he can't comment on anything, and Joe Philbin will pretend that will be the end of it. Then I'd bet as soon as someone asks him something about it in OTAs or wherever, he'll say that was last year, this is this year, we've moved on.

I believe Coach Philbin has to speak to the media, because he is the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. If he really knew nothing about it, then stand up, answer the questions directly. Questions such as these:

You minutely manage every aspect of the team. Whether their shoe laces were tied. Whether the garbage was picked up. Its been said your a details oriented coach. How then do you account for having no clue as to what is going on in the locker room?

Exactly what kind of discussions did you have with Jonathan Martins parents? Were you aware he had emotional difficulties that might be exacerbated by the atmosphere in your locker room? If you were aware of this, then why did you not pay more attention to what was going on in your locker room.

If you were not in charge of what was going on in the locker room, who was? Did you ever ask what the climate of the locker room was like? Did you ever ask Jonathan Martin, after talking with his parents, if he had any issues with the locker room?

How do you plan to repair the tarnished image of the Miami Dolphins. Its one thing to have the franchise marred by repeated seasons with nary a playoff win. Its another when it appears as though you have no control over your team, and the franchise becomes THE case study of a locker room run amock. That will never go away. A new program will be put in place by the NFL to protect against the kind of behavior that our beloved Miami Dolphins allowed to happen in their locker room. Every time a new player comes into the league, and is part of this new program, MIAMI DOLPHINS will always be part of that lesson. You have placed a scarlet letter on this franchise. How are you personally going to deal with that.

What exactly do you want him to say??? I really don't understand what people are expecting? "Turner and I go way back, no chance I fire my friend, especially when everyone likes him"? "I didn't follow up with Martin, because I didn't think I could change him from being a *****"? "My goal is to collect as much money as possible going forward"?

The team just went through one of the biggest scandals in the franchise's history. Why are you stuck on pretending as if it's soooooooooooo out of the ordinary to expect the coach to address it? It's not out of the ordinary AT ALL.

Yes. Get in front of the press. Answer questions. Control the message. You know, DO YOUR JOB.

He owes the fans nothing. He doesn't report to you. For all we know, Philbin was told to not speak to the media by Ross and his "consultants".
Even if he did speak to the media, do you are Armando expect him to say anything of consequence that would satisfy your needs?

Whether you believe BullyGate is over blown or not. Whether you believe Jonathan Martin handled things incorrectly or not.

The fact remains, the Dolphins franchise is forever tarnished by this. Warranted or not. And it happened on Coach Philbin's watch. It is his responsibility as Head Coach to answer for this. When you couple this, with back to back seasons of not winning football, it points to a broken system.

    The hell he doesn't.

He chose to take a job where public relations and media availability are part of the job description. The entire point of such requirements is to relay information to the fanbase, also known as the paying customers (of which I am one).

So, when you are in charge when a scandal of this magnitude hits, hell freaking yes you owe the fanbase an explanation.

When the Aaron Hernandez thing hit, Bill Belichick gave an hour long press conference, where he actually spoke like a human being and answered every question asked.

And he had far less control or expectation of knowledge over what Aaron Hernandez was doing away from the facility than Joe Philbin does foir what was going on downstairs from his office.

I'm sick of this dumb ****. You think if I get picked on at work, don't speak up to anyone about it and quit anyone cares? I'm a grown man. Who cares? My employer will point me in the direction I need if I am suffering from mental illness and that's being nice. I don't care that Philbin didnt check on grown men outside if work. Do we need to check cell ohones of players before practice and put GPS on players cars now? I don't care that Turner gave a guy a blow up doll as a joke gift. If these were high school kids Id care. We are talking about grown men here. This is such mickey mouse bull****. Can we get back to football now please? Can these supposed sports writers write about something other than kiddie locker room antics? If you know how Philbin is going to respond why do you need a press conference? Those of you calling for heads to roll or demand Philbin to give you answers please allow us to get back to football? It's a sport, a game that we watch for entertainment. I dont care if a bunch of players got piss drunk and ran a train on a hooker. What I care about is the W/L column. What a bunch of babies..

philbin is the head coach, just as his reply of referring martin to a psychologist instead of treating him implies. It is most certainly somebodies job to advise him and the dolphins organization to control the message, and that is where the real failure is occurring.

Unless Steve Ross is directly telling him to sit down and shut up then this is Joe Philbin's decision. Ross is the only one that can overrule him in this regard and even if he does overrule him, Philbin can give pushback and make his case for why he wants to get out in front of all this. Ross does not seem like he would object to that either as he's the one that dragged Jeff Ireland out of his cave forcibly and talked about the team having a new commitment to transparency. All of that talk is making him look foolish because the people he hires don't have that same commitment to transparency and so they keep undercutting him at every turn.

we haven't heard anything official from the league offices yet, I hear no demands for Goodell's freakin head. Ross said when this all came out that he was going to go slow, work with the League office so he would knee-jerk react like he admitted to usually doing. he clearly said he wanted to make sure that all were on the same page and that the right decisions were made. so no pitchfork and torch for me just yet. gonna let them do their thing then decide if I feel it's acceptable as a fan.
