so every team is full of racists who seek pleasure in harassing/bullying their own teammates. sorry, i dont believe that for one second. if its been happening everywhere, then please tell me why legends like mike ditka and emmitt smith have said they have never seen any type of bullying like this in their locker rooms. ditka went as far as to say he would have beat the hell out of someone if they came at him that way.

I continue to see the harassment of the Japanese assistant trainer as well as the sexual harassment of a suspected gay player being much more pivotal to this controversy than the interactions between Martin and his teammate.

And they could have the more immediate consequences.

Really? How? Aren't we still getting crazy reports on the dealings of NFL Football players?

Still get tons of arrests every offseason. These people who beat their wives/girlfriends are model citizens in the locker room?

That's exactly why it has changed. There was an entirely different attitude from the top down about this in the mid-90s than there is today. In fact, the interesting question may be whether the changes dictated in the locker room have increased the stress level of the players which has created more ugly non-football incidents.

He likely did in the organization. That has been part of the problem between him and Ireland that everyone is attributing to Aponte for some reason.

If Cogs had gotten away scott free I'd agree with you, but the woman ok'ed a settlement. There'd be no reason at that point for Philbin to be the one to punch the organization in the eye. The smartest play would be to insulate himself as best as possible since he didn't do anything wrong, and let the idiots take themselves out like Martin, Cogs & Ireland ended up doing.

hmm depends i think we can all agree martin is weak in the sense of most people who get abused and dont try to get help. I mean they can go all brandon marshalls wife and stab a dude but that isnt the normal reaction. Inside a nfl locker room you probably end up with more of that reaction so its harder to bully someone. So its possible they act like model citizens knowing the people across from them can drop their ***.

Why do you suppose they wouldn't, because of team culture or because he'd kick their ***?

Do you see where you're messing up with this argument or do i have to spell it out?

I know this is hindsight but I think the same applies in foresight. You don't just abandon your strongly held belief and do nothing in that situation. If you call the team out and Ross fires you, I say so be it. Philbin was right, but he comes off as a jerk nevertheless to me because he was right but spineless.

I think they did do something. I think they tried every combination possible in TC to get a better line then the one with Cogs and Martin on it. But again, they had the players they had. Is it fair to all the other players and people in the organization to handicap your success because Cogs is an *** hole? Again, this isn't an unsolved crime where the victim is lacking justice. She agreed to a settlement.

Personally, IMO, Cogs should have been in jail for the golf course thing and then Ireland would have had to cut and replace him.

In reality, the person responsible for Cogs is Ireland, he's the one that wouldn't cut him.

You're saying no would have said that stuff to Larry Allen and you're right, but that has nothing to do with the organization and everything to do with Allen being an alpha male. Martin was not an alpha male. That is why he was messed with. You wanna bet that Larry Allen toughened up soft players?

Also, the Dallas Cowboys locker room during their heyday make this stuff look like My Little Pony by comparison.

Not so sure about that. The Martin harassment is bad enough, but even Wells acknowledges in the report that some rowdy behavior is to be expected among teammates in such a physical and competitive sport. But the assistant athletic trainer- how can anyone defend what that poor guy was subjected to? It's got to be hard enough to come to America, get acclimated to the culture and all of that. But for him to get assaulted and ridiculed for being Asian, and specifically Japanese with the pearl harbor bs? Not good, and even worse if Stephen Ross has Asian business dealings. Wasn't he supposed to go over there on business couple of years ago? I wonder if any Asian developments are in the works. Won't look too good as per the UM Ross School of business either:

"The three-month session in Asia kicks off the Ross Global MBA Program. Ross faculty travel from Ann Arbor and, together with students, they spend four weeks each in Korea, Japan, and China. Throughout the experience, Ross faculty integrate core MBA studies with company visits and cultural excursions to provide a real-time global perspective on business and social customs.

As a group, students and faculty engage in classroom and extracurricular activities, creating a tight-knit cohort and unique environment of intellectual stimulation and development."

    https://www.bus.umich.edu/Academics/Gmba/AsiaSession.htm

Heads should roll on this one alone- all the bs between players is bad enough, but this one leaves the "locker room" excuse behind and steps firmly in the real world. Total embarrassment for Ross and the organization.

    not sure about that.

Shoot in High-school we taped and filled 200 condoms in one of our defensive linemen's locker for his birthday. We even took a cigar box and filled it with condoms. We cut out pictures of guys from Playgirl and wrapped the cigar box in the pictures then wrapped it up like a gift. Inside the box was more condoms.......,it was ****ing hilarious. This is just Good ole fun used to fill an agenda IMO.

We loved Dave - it's why we took the time to do it. Just 4 the record he had safe sex for at least a month with the 200 condoms

    Incognito is 30.

People wax nostalgic about these sports because they think back to their youth days, but the reality is it's not just like being in high school whatever when you're in the pros. It's your job.

As we're slowly finding out, the entire unit was so toxic because of Richie Incognito that I suspect benching Incognito would have actually resulted in a better line, not a worse one. It's very obvious that there is more to this situation than just talent. Benching Incognito would have been addition by subtraction.

But Philbin was too cowardly to actually do that. Instead he just hides behind the fact that he didn't want the guy...even though he played him. But then he turns around and hardly acknowledges Dion Jordan despite his obvious talent on the field. Philbin is a total clown.

This comment is ridiculous. The "history of mental problems" stems from being bullied his entire life. Putting the onus on Martin to "deal with it" because it's common in lockerrooms is the lamest excuse for the poor behavior exhibited by teammates I've ever heard. In what world is it ok to make references of doing lewd things to a sister? I don't care if you pretend to play ball, that's not ok in any environment.

Anyone who asks for context from the report is missing the point - this stuff is unacceptable on any level, anywhere. It doesn't matter if another lockerroom does it too. The worst part about this is Incognito doesn't realize what he's done is wrong. That's the disconnect and it speaks to the rotten culture of locker rooms.

I'm less concerned with the punishments than the possible changes. If we're lucky this effects positive change across NFL culture and not just in Miami's lockerroom. I'm not that naive, but it would be nice.

I wonder if any apologists for this abhorrent behavior actually contribute in any meaningful way to the workforce in America or elsewhere. Certainly you have signed/approved a code of conduct for your employment in which these abuses would never be condoned. IMO some are as bad or worse than the perpetrators of this vulgarity for excusing the socializing of such behavior in any respect (as had obviously been done in the Miami locker room) and making excuses for it.
