they would have to take the route that DC has dabbled in recently: Batman stays on Earth or in Watchtower while rest of JLC takes off to fight superbaddies. It could work, if they had Batman fighting possible Earth-villains who might be collaborating with Darkseid. But, you just can't have a JL movie without Batman. has to be all or nothing.
I would rather have just solo Batman films but that's just my opinion. I get that you can't have a JL film without Batman, since he's the main money maker, so yeah that would be the only way Batman could work in a team up film.
Apparently Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons has been cast as Alfred in the Batman vs. Superman movie according to WB Pictures official Twitter feed. I kind of like both castings as both as pretty good actors.
Jesse Eisenberg as lex luthor? Zack Snyder is a moron, I think. How WB could drop the ball on Bryan Cranston is beyond me... inb4 someone compares Eisenberg to Heath Ledger.
Why? He's a good actor and showed he could play a "Luthor type" role already in the Social Network. Plus they were looking for an actor to play Luthor that is roughly the same age as Superman and both actors are 30.
He's a decent actor... And I don't think his role in social network is a "Luthor type" role. I don't think he embodies anything remotely related to Lex Luthor. Michael Rosenbaum would of been a better choice than Eisenberg.
Eisenberg's role in Social Network showed he could be arrogant, resentful and thinking he was the smartest guy around, they are the same basic traits as Lex. While I have like the casting of Bruce Wayne/Batman, Luthor and Alfred I still have major concerns about this movie even if it's loaded with a pretty good cast.
I don't think those traits apply to Luthor in the same way they did for Zuckerberg. There's also charm and charisma, which is going to be hard to pull off for a 31 year old, prepubescent looking, twerpy, awkward, fellow like Eisenberg. No thanks.
I think Cranston would have made a very good Lex but like I said in an earlier post WB was looking for an actor of similar age to Superman. I'd love to cast Cranston as James Gordon though. The age difference between him and Affleck works for Gordon and Bruce and Affleck has acted with him before in Argo.
It's weird having a Batman and Superman older than Lex Luther. I always envisioned him being an older bald guy or middle aged. I always liked the angle of Lex having the best body that money can buy, but still is not as strong as Superman, with the added him smartest non super human only second to Batman. Him being second best is his driving force into villainy.
BTW I hope they incorporate this scene where Batman has figured out everyone's secret identities
Lex and Superman are going to be the same age in this movie. Batman is going to be in his mid-40s or so.
I personally don't think he is a good actor and I can never understand a thing he says. I don't think he has ever enunciated a syllable in his life.
Some very interesting possible rumors about Lex Luthor in the Batman/Superman movie: http://latino-review.com/2014/02/exclusive-just-exactly-lex-luthor-batman-vs-superman/ I'm sure people will be freaking out about the tattoos.
Yeah I agree. I mean I also like to wait before I pass judgement but the whole thing has been a giant rush job from the start and every week it seems like a new thing gets added and piled on. The latest rumor is The Rock will be Jonathan Stewart aka The Green Lantern in the movie. I really wish they would just make a direct Superman sequel and give Batman his own solo movie and BUILD to a JL movie.
I dunno, it's sounds like they're trying to give Lex an edge that I just don't see Eisenberg being able to pull off. I hope I'm wrong though.
Ray Fisher has been cast as Cyborg in the Batman vs. Superman movie. There are also rumors that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has signed on to be part of this movie and future DCU movies but has shot down reports that he will be playing Jonathan Stewart/Green Lantern.
I could be wrong about this, and I hope I am; but this has disaster written all over it. Just the fact that it's a vehicle for the two greatest superheroes of all time, who have been linked so often in print yet never onscreen, is an obstacle of a scope that few understand. One of the leads just played the role for the first time to mixed reviews, and the other has never played his role; although he played another superhero and was widely panned for it. Then there's the fact that names keep popping up in connection with this and none seem to make the sense that they should, given that this is such a pivotal project for the whole DC universe on film. It gives off an odor, is all. Like the odor in Kingmotion's grass hut when it's close to time to dig a new outhouse.
I think it's more about how this film feels so rushed and WB is trying to shoe horn other characters in it now like Wonder Woman and Cyborg and probably a few others to try and set up a JL movie. There have already been multiple delays in filming because things were rushed so much and the script has been written and rewritten. Really WB should have gave Superman another solo film and rebooted Batman on his own and then make a Batman/Superman team up while also making more solo films for Flash, WW etc. But to your original point, right now this film feels like it's going to be a disaster.
Also WB just announced that Zack Synder will in fact direct a JL movie which will be the next DCU movie after Batman/Superman movie.
Agree with your previous point, it's rushed. Marvel did it so good with Iron man, sprinkle in a Capt. America shield here, Bruce Banner there. Have Black Widow in the Capt movie, Hawkeye is in small dose in Thor, along with Loki. Gave them time to grow, develop on screen. And now with that as the "standard" man DC has a huge uphill climb ahead of them. Yikes.
Yeah and the problem is because Green Lantern bombed at the box office and Man of Steel didn't bring in a billion dollars, WB is in full panic mode and thus getting these rush jobs instead of building up to the big events/movies. Kind of crazy that Marvel does such a good job with their films that Thor could make as much money in the box office as the 2nd most popular superhero (Superman) does and Iron Man and Captain America can out draw him.
I tend to view these characters in a different order than probably most of you, who are younger. To me, Superman will always be the gold standard; he was first, and he had real superpowers that had a certain scientific child-logic to them. Batman is second, but in many ways more relatable. To me —everyone else comes after. But in terms of the movies, after the first Chris Reeve film, it took a long time and Chris Nolan to do a DC character full justice. But in the aggregate, Marvel has kicked DC's *** all over the universe. And one of the reasons—a huge reason—is the directors. Whedon and Favreau are gods, simply put. It still astounds me to look back and see 'Swingers' and know that the same guy who sweated blood to get that made and distributed now directs billion-dollar blockbusters. And Whedon, the guy who couldn't keep a non-vampire TV series on the air, owns the bragging rights to the highest-grossing film of all time. Yet they were the exact right choices; DC seems to be struggling with that, just as they did for decades after the Richard Donner 'Superman', until they happened on Nolan. It comes down to vision; I believe that the guys doing the Marvel flicks have it, and the rest just don't. PS: another example of not knowing what the **** to do with a monster franchise: the Spider-Man movies.
I think one of the mistakes to 'vision' is with the success of the Nolan films, they think that is how people want their super hero films. Not that, "it works for Batman, how do we make a good Superman movie," they go, "Well Batman was successful, how can we make Superman more like Batman." Marvel's vision is so good because WB is still making super hero movies and Marvel are making regular type movies with super hero elements. With Avengers being their super hero movie. PS. A company that has to be kicking themselves in the face is Fox for X-Men. They actually planned to do what Marvel succeeded at, but they just failed miserably. With two mistakes. Believing that stand alone movies won't sell and not selecting what is best about the comic and then transferring it to film. It is my opinion that is what Marvel did best with their movies. Not change everything to be modern and awesome, but to take what made the characters awesome in the comic, and then transfer it to film. Or if they did make changes, other than the Mandarin, not making the changes too glaring.
I think a lot of it has to do with long term planning as well. Marvel has Kevin Feige who is the head of Marvel Film studios who over sees everything. Marvel Studios has 1 job to put out superhero films and that's their #1 priority. With DCU, they are run by WB and WB's main goals aren't to simply make superhero movies which hurts. If a DCU film flops or doesn't do as expected WB simply moves on and walks away because they can fall back on other non-hero movies to make money. If Green Lantern was successful then we would have gotten a Flash or Wonder Woman movie next along with the Superman reboot that became Man of Steel which would have led to a JL movie. But because GL bombed (mainly because of the rush job to get it out and problems with the script with rewrites during production) WB got cold feet and backed away. WB wanted Man of Steel to make 1 billion dollars at the box office and because it didn't WB panicked and that's why they decided to take the MoS sequel and turn it into Batman vs. Superman with hopes of getting that billion dollar box office, which is why they are now going to be filming JL right after. MoS made almost 700 million at the box office yet WB was still unhappy. Yet WB fails to realize that Batman Begins didn't even make 400 million at the box office. Sometimes you need to reintroduce the character before you get the huge payoff. Even so a studio isn't happy with a 700 million dollar box office? There's simply no direction at DCU and WB like there is at Marvel. Marvel is taking big risks in making Guardians this summer and Ant Man next. While WB can't even make The Flash or a Wonder Woman film. It's unreal really. WB/DC needs 1 guy like a Kevin Feige who is simply in charge of all the DCU characters that over sees everything and has a consistent long term plan in place. Because DC has had some good directors making movies for them, the problem is they don't have someone watching over them telling Tim Burton making The Joker be the killer of Batman's parents is a bad idea or saying turning Batman & Robin into a giant toy commercial is probably a bad idea and direction for the character.
Basically, Marvel has a comic book guy making movies and DC is letting WB be movie guys making comic book movies. If they were smart, they'd let Bruce Timm be their Kevin Feige and then everything would be amazing.
First teaser picture of the new Batmoblie: http://imgur.com/Mb1wRn5 Zack Synder teased in the tweet that time to pull off the tarp was tomorrow (which is now today). So I wouldn't be surprised if we get our first pic of it today and possibly Ben Affleck in the Batsuit.
And here's the first picture of the Batsuit and Batmoblie: http://www.hitfix.com/news/breaking-ben-affleck-in-new-batman-costume-from-man-of-steel-sequel I think the suit looks ok, although it's a weird angle so it's hard to really see it and the Batmoblie isn't fully shown either.
Looks like the old suit, black and gray with short bat ears on the cowl. I'm ok with everything except the shorter ears. Sent from my iPhone5S using Tapatalk - now Free
I agree about the ears. Although I'd like to get a better straight forward angle of the suit though. It could look shorter because of the angle.
