According to Steven Ross, he thinks they will both be gone. Incognito is a free agent that they will more than likely let walk, and Martin will be, I don't know. He went AWOL on the team, so the team owes him nothing. He will be like that guy in Office Space, they will fix the glitch and stop sending him paychecks, and hope that he disappears without burning the building down.

Cogs contract is up isn't it? And I'm 99.9% sure we will release Martin. I only leave the .01 because we could be that idiotic.

I'm curious to what you think happened at the golf course. From what I've read it sounded like he was drunk and groped her. Certainly not acceptable behavior but it doesn't line up to me with your stance of "jail time" and "punished severely".

Its a violation of a person. Its absurd to me that would not be a big deal. If a giant drunk ******* walked up to your mom or significant other and started groping them you'd either fight him or call the cops.

I'm in no way condoning what he did but the punishment should fit the crime. The victim herself said she only wanted an apology and only made a big deal out of it when the apology didn't come directly from Richie. Seems odd to me that you are more offended by this than she was.

That's not exactly true...he was placed on the NFI list, which means that he gets his salary. At least that's the way the CBA reads for rookie contracts... If we release him, he is still due to be paid the remainder of his rookie contract. I don't know, but I assume there is offset language which means that he'll be guaranteed at least what his rookie contract would pay him, the difference (if it's less from another team) being paid by us... I don't know/remember how the dead money counts, I know that we'd be on the hook for his prorated bonus, but not sure about any salary we have to pay out or if we are charged his total rookie salary against the cap...

So there is a chance that we could play hardball and keep him but it seems highly unlikely. I think they eat the bullet on him and let him go before FA begins... There is an option for us to trade him, but 1) what team would and 2) even if a team were interested in him, say as a backup OL somewhere, they would just wait it out until we have to make a move (start of the new league year)...

EDIT: Re: NFI list, he is on his rookie contract and that is guaranteed, so NFI made the most sense, given that he supposedly checked into some sort of mental health care unit...

    LOL.......What are you 11.

Seems like Cog is going to get the raw end. Not saying all the texts were right. It seems as if this was a back and forth thing between friends. Unfortunately for Cog, his friend needs psychiatric help.

Then there's this from the article:

Schamel added: "Jonathan Martin sent text messages to Richie Incognito which included threats to send someone over to Richie Incognito's home with a 'tranquilizer gun and sandpaper condoms' to homosexually rape him. Jonathan Martin sent another that said he would 'kill (Richies’s) whole family.' There was another where Jonathan Martin indicated he would ejaculate in Richie’s face."

Martin’s attorney, David Cornwell, declined both email and telephone requests for comment. Martin’s spokeswoman, Ann Marchant, told Fox News that Wells and the NFL investigators have "the entire series of texts and it's more accurate to look at all of them," adding that to the extent Martin had made crude comments to Incognito, it was in the context of trying "to be a friend to Richie and to fit in" with the team.

She added that Incognito sent emails yet to be made public where Incognito "talks about gang raping (Martin's) mother and sister. They are very vile."

WTF....what is this a game of back -n- forth, nah nah nah nah nah, my texts are worse then yours....Give me a break.

Seems to me as if Martin was going to loose his job and most likely his pay because he might have been cut. His "friend" was used to make sure that didn't happen.

Its borderline rape. Its not ok to fondle strangers. Again if someone was doing to a person you cared about you'd want the police involved.

    The border is decently big.

I would want the guy to give an apology, however I wouldn't want him arrested.

Especially if she just wants an apology.

I am not familiar with the contract language, or any contract language for that matter, but didn't Martin violate his contract by walking out on the team? He was paid to do a job, and just left. Why would he still be entitled to anything? That is the argument I would make, but probably fail in.

As far as Golf-gate, the woman decided not to press charges or even go public with it. She agreed to that. So like someone else said, she must not have been that offended, or Icognito and his camp made it worth her while to keep her mouth shut.

The punishment should be in line with what the victim wants. She obviously didn't think what he did warranted serious charges. Laws are in place to protect victims, and the victim has stated what she sees fit.

Incognito paid approx $30,000 to get the Golf incident to go away.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-the-range-of-30000-for-golf-course-incident/

Martin hasn't sued because monetarily he has not been damaged, until of course he does not get paid. Proving damage psychologically and winning a monetary award will be virtually impossible. This is the reason he is "in Play" to play next season. Believe it or not Miami and Incognito have played their cards right. Martin has no choice but to "down play" it. Other wise he is screwed for playing in the NFL again. IMO noone will touch him with a 10 foot pole. He wasn't even that good. If we remember, he was moved to RG as a demotion and on his way out.

You're talking to someone who only believes in about three laws. Anarchy would be better than our current system most likely.

If the victim does not feel it was a crime, it wasn't a crime. Period.@

If you released athletes for how they talked to each other hoping for choir boys, you'd have few athletes on your roster.
Seriously..... this is real life with aggressive male athletes.
The texting issue never would have been an issue if it weren't for what appears to me to be a calculated legal maneuver for a money grab.

If you want to talk about releasing Incognito based on other issues then those should be looked at.
To release him based on this ridiculousness would be wrong.

So what? since when does what one victim feel of a given crime have any bearing on how that crime should be viewed.

Again, if it happened to someone you care about you'd think it was a way bigger deal.

You do understand women aren't there to be molested by men at our whim, right?

Actually you're wrong, it wouldn't. Personally if I'm ever KILLED accidently by someone's mistake I don't want them prosecuted. It bothers me that it would be.

If you think the law is just...fine. However in my opinion its ******ed that what the victim wants to happen is disregarded.

It was crude and boorish behavior which was unacceptable and shouldn't be tolerated but to call it "borderline rape" is trivializing the term rape.

Not it isn't. If he penetrated her with the club head that would be rape. The only difference here is that she had on shorts/pants. Its more than boorish behavior. Its molestation.

Dude I am not interested in debating about how this "crime" should be viewed. Apparently it is a non issue or crime for the local police. Otherwise Cog would have been arrested.

To claim what Cog did as close to rape is ridiculous. None of us where there. No one knows for sure exactly what happened and apparently the women who was groped/touched is happy with what she got, which according to reports was around $30,000.00. Hell I'll let you grab my ***/ boob / whatever for $30,000. Hell I'll even let you message it for a while.

You're so out of touch with reality you say you don't want to debate this and then go on to debate this.

The difference between what he did and rape is a thin layer of cloth that made up her pants/shorts.

Also, if someone has something stolen from them but don't report it to the police should stealing by legal now?

He rubbed her crotch with a golf club, if that club entered her it would be rape. You can be douchey about this all you want but we are literally talking about the difference of less than an inch.
