This may be a bit crazy but crossed my mind in reading through some things and considering what is going on right now. I wonder whether or not Ross, who is lives in NYC, may have thoughts of moving Miami to LA? He's been rebuffed on the stadium. He doesn't have a really strong fan base (as some pure football towns do). He went so short term on Hickey (two years only!) that I wonder if he may not be considering that in two years, if the team hasn't turned around, and if the stadium issues are not changed, that he could potentially move the team to LA, have a new stadium built by developers there and start afresh with an entire new staff. It may be crazy, but, I would not put this past Ross. Crazier things have happened. It's not like he is deeply embedded in Miami and the SoFlo culture. He's a Michigan man and resides in NYC. Of course, if a miracle happens and Hickey turns out to be a great GM; Philbin turns out to be a good HC, the team improves and the stadium changes - that would transform the franchise positively for SoFlo. But, otherwise, I just wonder …
There is no plan for a stadium in LA, and there won't be one ready within 2 years. LA is far more valuable as a threat to all other cities as it is to the NFL as a football town itself. Ross will have a far easier time eventually getting the stadium renovations passed here then he will getting a brand enw stadium in LA. So, don't worry about it. Unless he sells the team to Ed Roski. Then you can worry
I don't get that vibe from him, but the stadium is a cancer and something has to be done or it will continue to eat the culture, the economy, and be a disadvantage for the players.
I don't see the phins leaving Miami and I actually don't feel that LA is all that much better of a football town... As far as the Stadium....that's on Ross....there is no reason he can't pay for the upgrades on a stadium he makes money on and fully owns.
There will have to be some serious reform in this team's image before they get a new stadium in South Florida.
Owners around the league threaten to move to LA then get a new stadium in their present town. Not speaking for the OP but I think thats what hes getting at.
We aren't moving to LA, there are at least 5-6 teams ahead of us that would be much easier to move and sell than us. I don't know why this gets brought up from time to time, the NFL wants a team and a stadium here...Miami is a prime location for the Superbowl. We aren't moving.
It's funny seeing some of these people going off the deep end with this, when there are other teams that are more familiar with blackouts and 2 win seasons. I'm sure, even if Ross wanted to relocate as the owner of the Miami Dolphins, the NFL would not allow it.
There will be no more superbowls until something is done with sun life stadium. The sooner moronic politicians, owners, and residents understand this, the quicker they will make more money for their region.
My question: If Ross moves the team, do I get to pick a new favorite team? What if they are still called the Dolphins? What if they aren't? What a conundrum that would represent. I'm not a Miami local, so if Miami ever got a new team, should I cheer for them? Go local? I'd hate being a Redskins fan. Just thinking out loud about what's probably a very unrealistic scenario.
He owned the twin towers, you tell me where he should be and what he should be doing... I hear Mussolini owned a Venezuelan soccer team shortly after WWII. He cloned all his players and still had a losing record...Do the math
There will eventually be another nfl team in LA. Goodell has essentially declared that the league is very interested in that. However, in the short term no team is moving to LA without a stadium already in place to lure them in and that isn't happening anytime in the next 2 years.I would say Ross is far more likely to build a new stadium somewhere else in FL (such as palm beach county) and change to team to the Florida Dolphins.
Minnesota looked like they were dead in the water, then the Wilfs had dinner with the Farmer's Field guys I believe out in LA. New Vikings Stadium confirmed two months later, after 8 years of getting absolutely nowhere. It works, the Rams are about to make the power play any day now.
There are a few football teams whose lease comes up soon. St Louis almost immediately, San Diego in a year and Miami in a couple years. Of those three, San Diego is suspected to be the best LA candidate because it obviously already has the built in southern California fan base. People commonly suspect Buffalo or Jacksonville are the prime candidates because they suck and have small markets. I believe Buffalo just re-upped their lease and Jacksonville is leased through 2030. Breaking those leases would cost 100s of millions.
And leave a billion dollar, team owned, stadium behind? My take on Ross is he values stability and one direction in the organization, a sort of modern big biz approach to the Dolphins, no confrontations, only ideas that consensus forms around or does not form around. If you have Dungy and Polian running things, great, we have Hickey and Philbin, uhm, yeah.
