Well we will see what he does with our draft. Part of building a team is developing that talent, not sure Tampa has ever had coaches to do that.

There were reports Hickey could bring in Dominik as assistant GM, but I don't see that happening now. It appears Philbin/Aponte have all the power and Hickey is just a glorified scout/stooge.

no one is saying that blitz, its a wait and see approach.

Maybe folks who are bashing everything dolphin reported should look in the mirror and think maybe they have something to do with people not wanting to be here, or people who were well qualified wanting to leave.

@MaxLuckan: On Hickey: RT @AdamHBeasley: Another take: "Tampa is psyched. They were going to fire him anyway. Now they don't have to pay him.""

No, he's a fan of the team who has insights we don't. And frankly, you of all people shouldn't be questioning anyone's opinion relating to football. You don't even know anything about your own team ffs.

Ross wanted colaberation between the GM and Coach? I think that's better than the politics we had with Sherman and Philbin not playing Ireland's picks because they didn't fit with what they were trying to do. Philbin has something he's trying to do and he will defer to Hickey to acquire the players that will make that happen. So don't be surprised if we draft OL in the first round rather than trade up to #3 and draft a DE so quit *****ing.

Looks like Hickey isn't a puppet and actually has control over the entire football operation including Dawn Aponte. Aponte now answers to Hickey.

The best thing that ever happened to Jeff Ireland is getting let go by the Dolphins. Within a Day, all the crap people complained about for years was totally forgotten and it all became about Philbin and Aponte. It's hilarious. Ireland must be sitting back wondering why he didn't get fired earlier. In another year or so people will be talking about how Ireland got a raw deal the SIX years he was here :)

I will not be giving anyone in Miami the benefit of the doubt. They lost that years ago. They need to prove to me that they know what they're doing.

No, Philbin has no say over player personnel, he just coaches. Aponte is another issue which I thought I knew, but not quite sure where she stands now. Seems to be a control the purse type position, but that seems to only come to play in free agency. The issue seems to be, Ross wants to be the one to ultimately decide the head coaches fate. I honestly think if Hickey was adamant about removing Philbin after a down year, he would be gone.

Yeah that Duffner has no credentials whatsoever to be an NFL LB coach. Only 17 years in the league coaching the position. Only 39 total years as a coach. He doesn't know anything. Just Joe's drinking buddy. That he is the most experienced coach on the staff is nothing but a coincidence.
Yeah that new OC, he must be a crony too. Wait a minute, we can find some 3 degrees of separation proving he is no more than a crony.
7 assistants and interns out of 22 total on the staff have worked elsewhere with Joe before. Definitely a pattern of only hiring cronies. :whistling:

If he is so bad, why did the Bucs keep him 18 years and promote him twice?

I wouldn't do that. Never bothered when the Jets or Raiders hired Tony. Won't do it when some team hires Jeffy. It's really silly IMO

The woe is us crowd will spin it as a negative.

The logical no spin people will wait and see before climbing out onto any high ledges,

The thing is its already reported that Aponte and Philbin will answer to Hickey. New reports are that Hickey can't fire Philbin and that is the power others wanted.

    Dude, I love your optimism.

Last time I saw you like this was when we were trying to figure out why the coaches weren't using Ryan's legs.

I think that, despite you giving this organization the benefit of the doubt again, you'll end up similarly disappointed that the real asnwer (like last time) is simply tht some people aren't as smart or good at what they do as we hope they are.

In this case, Ross as a football owner.

That's what the Dolphins are saying. I guess no one really knows but it seems a bit like PR spin to me. Even Abramson was tweeting out the talking points, so it's pretty clear the Fins were pushing back on the puppet narrative.

Ultimately Hickey is the guy and it doesn't matter who has the most power. Just hoping it works out.

Aponte reports to Hickey, and he and Philbin both report to Ross. Hickey has full control of the roster, free agency and the draft.

It would be a very attractive job if Ross wasn't the owner and Philbin wasn't the head coach. Unfortunately Ross is the owner and Philbin is the head coach, therefore that means the job is not attractive at all to the top tier or even mediocre tier GM prospects. That is also why we now have a GM that the fans of the Bucs are happy to see gone from their organization.

We've been trying to figure that out across two message boards and countless discussions in Buccaneer land...

The Rich McKay front office team in Tampa Bay did remarkable things in the mid-90's. Drafted a dynasty defense with Hall of Fame pieces like Sapp, Brooks, and Barber. Names like John Lynch, Donnie Abraham, Brian Kelly, Mike Alstott, Warrick Dunn, and many others dot our history book. Legendary work. But that front office team was slowly whittled down by teams poaching the best names off our hands. Idzik, Angelo, Ruskell, and many others that were key parts of our success moved onto bigger jobs as GM's. The ones that progressed in house after that (Dominik, Hickey) weren't nearly in the same league; but they somehow managed to ride those coattails. McKay left in a power struggle with Gruden in 2003ish, Bruce Allen was brought in, and the lower tier guys like Hickey kept moving up. They flat out stunk at drafting and we built mediocre at best football teams. We haven't won a playoff game since our Super Bowl win for a reason.

As for Hickey.....the man simply failed upwards in our organization. Our fine owner (Malcolm Glazer) had a horrible stroke that has knocked him out of commission for years. The Glazer Sons have always focused more on Manchester United and never had the passion for the Buccaneers that the old man had. The proof was seen as we let Gruden hang around with too much power for too long and people (like Hickey) weren't held to the fire for their failures. That allowed a certain dead wood to rot into place at One Buc Place. Hickey was a key player in our general failures in the draft over the years. Then the ridiculous promotion over Pro Personnel. We were shocked he failed upward into such an important role. We've been calling for his head for years now and we couldn't be happier Hickey is gone.

Hopefully he enjoys collecting his salary while he is sitting on his butt next season. Because I don't see him ever becoming a GM for another NFL team in the future. Ross made the right decision to get rid of Ireland. Unfortunately no decent GM prospect wanted to work with Ross, and Philbin.

Ireland was a lousy GM, but it is now obvious that Ross is the real problem with this organization and the reason no quality NFL people want to work for him.

Because for 17 years the entire NFL believed he wasn't good enough to poach from them?..... well at least until dips**t Ross came a knockin'.

Well, since Malcolm Glazer has given the team over to his sons (because of his health) our team has largely made every wrong decision we could.

The Glazer kids fired Jon Gruden and Bruce Allen, and promoted a DB coach and Dominik way above their pay grade. Both of these hires were on the cheap, and that was our philosophy for the next three years while Raheem was given no talent to work with. In the meantime, Hickey (Dominik's close friend) was promoted through our department. He simply climbed the ladder because the Glazer's don't know what is going on and nepotism from Dominik.

We then fired Raheem and the Glazers didn't want to pay the premium for another big time coach. So we found Schiano. Dominik continued to promote Hickey.

Then we said "**** it, we really need to do this right."

So we fired Dominik, Schaino, and soon to be Hickey. Hand over the keys to Lovie, get him a stellar GM candidate and (hopefully) promote stokes to Director of Player Personnel.

This has been the best offseason for Buc fans in over a decade, and seeing Hickey walk out that front door without having to pay out his contract is like a big cherry on top.
