The person picking the players is the most important in a pro franchise, as I wrote in my column today. So why are the Dolphins having a hard time filling what should be a coveted job? 1. The structure is all wrong. This has been obvious from the start. If the Dolphins want a top GM, they have to give him assurances he's running the show. Instead, two people involved in the process said they aren't quite sure what the structure of the new GM is. He will report to Ross, yes. But will vice president of football operations Dawn Aponte answer to the new GM or be over the new GM? No one is sure of this. It has nothing to do with what anyone thinks of Aponte. It's having control of your decisions. The easy question to ask is this: What happens if the GM wants to sign a player that Aponte and/or Joe Philbin don't want to sign ... and he's told there isn't enough money to structure a deal? On some level, that's ridiculous. Every GM I've ever talked with said if a coach strongly dislikes Player A, you typically move to Player B. You wouldn't sign a player whom the coach dislikes. That's a universal thought and so this hypothetical scenario doesn't exctly work. To me, this is more about whether a prospective GM trusts the people he'll be working with - and if Dolphins owner Steve Ross understands the importance of the GM in the scheme of the hierarchy. He shouldn't be answering to someone in Aponte's role. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...rd-to-fill-20140126,0,2137649.story?track=rss
This reminds of a chick who thinks they shouldn't have to "settle" for anything less than exactly what they want, because they "deserve" better. At some point you better get what you can or your self entitled *** is going to end up lonely forever.
Its hard to believe Ross is so inept. We have got to be doing this on purpose, just going thru the process to satisfy the Rooney rule and perhaps see if someone would be better then Gaine. Having decided awhile ago that would be our decision.
So I've been quite positive about the whole story so far. Turns out I was wrong. To all those I disagreed with the evidence is now pointing to the possibility of some b.s. going on. I was wrong. You were all right. We need some change. A big storm to clear stuff up. Let's write off the season and this draft and start fresh one year from now. This sucks.
This is the strangest comment ever. You're saying that we SHOULD settle for anyone at this point? And you're making that point by comparing it to a woman who doesn't want to settle for less than what she wants? There is so much creepiness in that comparison, all in the name of making a really strange point.Color me confused.
When ur fat and ugly (kinda like our team) you take what u can get and stop aiming for handsome devils like myself. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Fin D? Comment? I'd love to know your stance on the organizational structure now that someone you deem a respected media source has come out and said it's completely ****ed.
Its hard to fill BC they will more than likely be fired after one season. If we dont have a big year the whole house will be cleaned.
I think it's needs to be brought up that this is football and there are probably football men who don't want to work under a female. I'm not making any judgement on Aponte's qualifications, just pointing this out.
Just an opinion on my part, I think she still bolts to the NFL offices if an offer is really there. She stuck around just to help in the GM appointment. I know that sounds counter intuitive to many here but I really don't believe the BS about the GM reporting to her.
Looks like we will have a empty stadium next year which isn't news by any means. its a damn shame that Miami has been getting black eyes and Shannon Sharp is being crappy towards Dan Marino and calling him a loser for not having a ring. this was on the hearld sports page . I think we need a new owner more then anything else . people can keep on ripping me but I have respect for Wayne H. he was classy and he was very well respected unlike Ross who nobody in league circles respects.
about this & that & more irrational hatred & accusations: 1) more anti-feminist sentiment or do you really believe what you are posting? Aponte is an excellent professional. hopefully, she will remain a part of the front office for a very long time. 2) just maybe, there are personal insecurities inherent in the GM position that come with the turf. maybe some of these guys honestly thought they'd try the waters & (in the end) felt uncomfortable with the weight of the responsibility of a franchise. perhaps, they felt they needed more time/experience before tackling the position. maybe they were offered the prospect/possibility of succeeding their old GM within their current franchise or a sweeter job in the making with their current employer. ultimately, people act in their best interest... could be that Dawn had nothing to do with any of this non-sense. it's probably about that simple! being tried in the court of public opinion/gossip is un-American & serves no positive purpose for the franchise give Dawn a break!
Except we had a "sure thing" in Brian Gaine, someone that we could text once and she would come over for some loving. That being said, we went with the girl that all our friends were telling us had herpes.
You do realize that out of 32 teams we are the only one with this power structure, right? This has nothing to do with the fact that a woman is involved. If Dawn was a man, there would be the same reservations and the outcome would likely be the same.
Right...we only hired the worst candidate possible. Granted I will give hin a chance to be his own man and judge him on that merit. The only thing I can say is that this move is HIGHLY uninspiring.
1) Hyde, stop stealing my thread topics and using them as articles. 2) Hyde, you probably deserve to eventually move national at some point, like Darlington⦠but it won't happen covering this team, due to its low status.
