Not sure how the Dolphins are gonna avoid a mess with this. After bullygate...now this. We look horrible..this is pretty freakin bad.

    http://mweb.cbssports.com/general/w...f-helping-davone-bess-the-dolphins-failed-him

" again, this isn't about the Browns. Did the Browns get screwed by the Dolphins? Of course they did, and not in a way that should ever happen. What Miami did to Cleveland was unethical, dishonest, unprofessional, unfair.

But Cleveland was treated great, compared to how Davone Bess was treated.

    The guy has problems.

This isn't one of those cases where the meatheads among us can grumble that Bess is an adult and should be able to take care of himself. Because, see, he's not merely an adult. He's an adult with psychological issues. And those people are helpless."

I had no idea he was admitted to a hospital then traded a month later...

    Pretty freakin sad.

    Shame.

Bess always seemed like a good guy.

Not sure what we could've done if the guy didn't want help. But yes, you'd hope that we would've cared even slightly and tried

But don't be lazy and assume Ireland is the only one in the Dolphins organization who knew about Bess' March hospitalization. Bess caught 321 passes from 2008-12, and was the Dolphins' punt returner in that time. He wasn't just an asset, but a valuable part of the team. So when he was committed in March, don't think for a second that coach Joe Philbin and owner Stephen Ross didn't know. Of course they knew. Ireland didn't just trade the team's leading receiver since 2008 without telling them why.

All of which makes Ross' mealy-mouthed talk about wanting to replace Jeff Ireland with someone of "integrity" so ludicrous. Integrity starts at the top, with the man who hired Ireland, kept him after the Dez Bryant fiasco, even kept him after Richie Incognito -- whom Ireland acquired -- tore his locker room asunder while the GM was telling Jonathan Martin he would help things by punching Incognito in the mouth.

Ireland is out of work, but Stephen Ross still owns the Dolphins. Joe Philbin still coaches them.

Davone Bess? He faces charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer, which means he faces jail time. Not the place to address his personal issues. That place was Miami in March 2013, but only if the Dolphins were a franchise run by decent people. They weren't.

    And still aren't.

Man, what happened to the guy who worked hard in the offseasons and spent a great amount of time doing good charity work?

This is a bad thing all around, and I certainly hope he gets the right treatment.

Wonder if Farmer was just sticking it to the organization?

Its kind of crappy in my opinion that after all the charity work ..effort and hard work..the Phins would just drop him like a bad habit..with no support structure in place.

But I think there is also somr blame to be laid at his agents feet. Why wasnt he looking out for Bess?

This does go back to my concern that I saw very little emotion from Philbin after his sons death. Now you see this....and the Jonathan Martin thing..and you wonder if their is a complete lack of empathy.

Really? You're overreacting quite a bit tonight. Speculating on how Philbin's dealt w his son is ridiculous.

This is a really unfair and terrible thing to say, dude. You have no idea what he was going through. You weren't there. You can't judge him based on what you see in front of a camera.

I feel really bad for Bess here, but I don't believe it for one second Cleveland didnt know. I wish the real facts were reported by the media in this case.

Personally, I think Cleveland... Lombardi in particular just leaked all this out to the media to smear the Dolphins even more in the media in an attempt to keep Farmer in Cleveland. Go ahead, call me crazy, but I don't for a second believe that Cleveland woudln't have done their homework, and that we would have covered that up, even with as much of a douche as Ireland was.

Just saying everyone... don't believe all you read.

And..actually that very topic was discussed quite a bit during the whole Jonathan Martin deal..so..perhaps you should go back and read some.

Seriously. It's so easy to be negative now, though. People think they can just say anything.

However, there is a issue in Miami when it comes to dealing with players with issues. That might stem from Ireland but it is a problem.

I'm not 100% sure what the Dolphins owed anyone, including Bess. If he was committed by his family against his will a judge signed off on it no? I assume he also had to get cleared to be released which meant they (the state) found him capable of returning to his life and the NFL. I feel sorry for Bess but I don't see where the organization owed anything to him (other than what was in his contract). I also dont know if his personal medical history is supposed to be made known to everyone else, including Cleveland. If so one would think they would also see that he was cleared and given a clean bill of health.

Some of what Im referring to was in Club..so it wasnt here..but there is a feeling that Philbin is quite different then pereception. And I didnt say Philbin was part of the problem. It was brought up that he seemed to show little emotion so soon after what happened with his son...then you had the Jonathan Martin story ...now you read this about Bess..and Im sorry..but it does not sound like a Head Coach who has his players best welfare at heart.

I don't remember seeing anything like that but anyone who was saying that is a raving scumbag. Unless you've lost a child, don't judge and make assumptions based on what you see of a man for 5 minutes when a camera is on him. That is completely ****ed up. Besides, wasn't there a scene in Hard Knocks of Philbin talking about his son and crying? The fact anyone would make assumptions like that is embarrassing and completely awful.

*this was NOT directed at you vt. I was referring to those who were saying those things previously*

Ok..you know what. I dont know how he acted...and I should not have said what I did. My bad.

All I can say is as a parent...I couldnt imagine being able to interview for a job so soon after something like that. But..Im a parent of two young boys..so..loosing one of them is worse to me then any hell any one of you or I could imagine. That was the basis for what I said.

wow, what a smear campaign by cbs.

in what way was miami responsible in for Bess? the guy had to be responsible for himself. Period. He had the money to hire anyone he needed. To seek any help he needed from anyone. He has more resources than 90% of america.

I don't see CBS writing any articles about how the jets need to support Kellen Winslow due to some of his severe imbalances needing to jerk off in a parking lot.

Having been in a multi-year relationrelationship with a girl who had MPD, I can tell you the last thing people who seriously need help can do is find it by themselves. They aren't rational enough to do that usually. If they were, they wouldn't need help.

I think its kind of obvious...Bess is gone far enough he cant take care if himself. The guy did a ton of charity stuff on behalf of Miami...not counting how he was as a player. I think its kind of lame to just trade the dude...not tell the Browns about his issues..and at they should have at least checked in on him...making sure he was ok. No its not their responsibility...but...its what I would have done...and would have been the right thing to do.

It's my worst nightmare but I cant speak for how someone else handles it. If I remember correctly his family stepped in and told him taking the job was the right thing to do and his son would have been disappointed with him if he didn't. I dont expect to see him crying on the sidelines or after a win saying he did it for his son. I see Philbin as more of a professional than that. I have no doubts that he stayed up many nights crying and will forever have those moments where it just hits him. But to say he lacks empathy or to presume he is some cold blooded person because you haven't personally seen him break down is not fair.
