It's quite embarrassing to say the least. I thought keeping Ireland was the worst this franchise could do. I forgot that Assclown Ross is the owner and would find the only way to make the team more embarrassing.

I saw on Bizarre Foods America where folks in Arkansas hunt and eat crow. Apparently it's damn fine fare; of course, this is coming from a guy who has eaten rotten duck eggs with the baby duck still inside....

Regardless if you wanted Farmer or not this is a poor reflection on this franchise. Those of us who are homers ultimately have to admit as will be pointed out by outsiders this is not a positive. And what it is probably falls below poor and inexcusable. It may take some type of image consulting firm to get the monkey off this franchise's back, or as most of us point out, winning is good.

The real disaster is that Ross is unable to get a GM who will put the Dolphins over the top and into SB, instead we are left with the 2nd rate scouts like Gaine, Farmer, and Dawson.

You have hit the nail on this. The potential of conflict is apparently viewed as high, and too high for most of the candidates? They have decided to not get in the fire. Gaine makes the most sense with his experience in this dysfunction. And please no more allegiance to Ireland comments. It generally has been state he is his own man and more of a Parcells disciple, not that I am excited about that either.

Is Ross too close to this as a "fan" versus a business man? A question worth asking.

I don't see how Ross can think any of this is okay. If noone wants what is actually a decent job, there is a reason.

I think this is business decision, to have Aponte in charge of $$$. Obviously it's a problem if GM wants to sign a player for $10 mil and Aponte vetos it. It's definitely a business decision, he trusts her with money, maybe having been burned by Irelands spree.

No. He's just clueless about the NFL and has been since his arrival. Harbaugh/Sparano, orange carpet, stadium deal (fallout specifically), Tim Tebow day, etc... This guy can do no right. He's Mr. Magoo. Only unsuccessful... He's a less successful than Mr. Magoo.

I think Ross honestly believes this can work collaboratively. But if Aponte can veto a contract, she effectively controls the roster. That is a problem for a GM.

I don't even understand the point of Aponte. Planning and managing the salary cap is a job for a mid level executive or a director, not a VP. NFL salary caps are even simpler than other leagues as everyone in the NFL has the same cap and there is now a rookie scale too. I mean it really should be trivial for someone good at numbers to organize this info and provide financial advice to the GM. Why does she even have equal power in this scenario?

I think if you looked at things you could kind of see this coming. When the search started I was going back and forth with a few people about how this job is actually a really bad job for a GM to take. You aren't going to be in control, the old GM just lost a power struggle....so the new one gets it? Um no. The new GM has no say in who coaches here and despite opinions to the contrary here, the GMs around the league actually do have a say in who coaches their teams. Do the owners ultimately decide who is fired or hired? Sure, they sign the checks, but a new GM is going to get to select their coach or at least get a year with the present coach to decide if he's the guy or not.

The new GM will get to select their Qb to groom or they might decide to keep the present Qb, the new GM here is keeping Tannehill. Not that I think thats a bad thing but its not that attractive to a guy with an ego that wants to build his own team. This team isn't that great talent wise, we have some big free agents and we don't have a top draft choice. If I were a top GM candidate I'd want to either go to a steady organization that has been winning, and obviously that is not us, or I would want a blank slate. Our team isn't hopeless but I do think a lot of these reasons are the ones that are chasing away candidates.

That or they are meeting Ross and deciding....**** no thank you.

And is she even good like people say? Every player on our roster has dead money tied to them. Go look at the Bucs roster. Whoever does their books looks like he knows what he's doing.

I wonder this too, it would seem like more of a consultant or adviser role, not someone in charge of anything.

Aponte did her service by getting Ireland out of here... now we should fire her too. We have no reason to keep that **** on this team. Thank you for your service by gossiping around.. now leave please..

And as handsome as you guys think Gaine is, personally I think we should go after someone ugly. You know some people here love them some Jeffy, so I think a GM that is handsome is a bad quality for our GM needs.

The way this is looking, I'm hoping Gaine is a hidden star. It could happen. People talk great about him around the league. Let's hope if he gets the gig he is the star who helped Ireland make any goo calls.

FWIW, LeBatard says the candidate Ross was calling by the wrong name was Farmer. Apparently he kept calling him Roy. Why no one stepped up and corrected him is beyond me.

The only way the Miami Dolphins are going to succeed is if the people they end up having to settle for, be it a coach, player, GM, etc end up being hidden gems. If Brian Gaine is the hire, that's what we have to hope for.

All I can say is that when someone picks staying in a lesser job in Cleveland over taking a general manager position in Miami, it's a crime against nature. Something must stink really badly here to make someone pick the Flats in winter over South Beach.

First of all, we have a head coach, a potential lame duck one, whom the new GM will have to like, and liking Philbin is far from a given. Secondly, the new GM will have to be ok with Aponte, how much power she covets, and how much she has Ross wrapped around her finger, which might not bode well considering she worked to oust the prior GM. It doesn't matter what you guys here think about what she did or if it was warranted; all that matters is how the GM candidate perceives it. Thirdly, he'll have to be comfortable enough to enter a situation that involved the head coach and Aponte forming an alliance together and how close their relationship has become, so the thought of having his power usurped in the future could be a concern. Lastly, despite carrying the title GM, he'll know in the back of his mind that Carl Peterson is only a phone call away and will likely be silently looming overhead.

So we're getting the candidates who are willing to work within these parameters. This isn't a custodial job here. NFL GM is an opportunity of a lifetime for most of these guys, so we should be having qualified candidates beating down the door since the supply of these jobs is limited, but unfortunately that's not the case in Miami, and you have to ask yourselves why. It's not the roster, and it's not the quarterback. And before anyone chimes in again about the roster being not great or whatever, I remind you- if this were a great roster, chances are we wouldn't be looking for a GM in the first place b/c great teams typically don't fire their GMs. It's the roster of an 8-8 team that should've finished 10-6 or at least 9-7 and made the playoffs with better coaching. It has a QB that people around the league gush about and feel is a future perennial Pro Bowler, especially with improved coaching. So by roster and salary cap alone this should be a coveted job, but it's not, and I've already listed concerns why, and so have an abundance of writers.
