U guys thinking that its bad that we havent signed an Gm? I heard only Brian Gaine was at the Senior Bowl Practices kinda weird..Ray Farmer looks cool for me maybe we inter Nick Caserio from the Pats...
We don't need a GM. We're going nowhere. We suck. Our coaches suck. Our owner sucks. Our league wide perception sucks. Armando & company said so. It's all over. Anyone we're going to hire, is working at the Senior Bowl likely with their current teams... They are still there. Maybe not employed by us, but theyre still there, working, checking out the draft talent.
With Gaine and some scouts attending, there is some comfort with the organization having some representatives there. I think it is odd, but may not be uncommon. Obviously, there are some coaching staffs who are preparing for the big game not attending, and maybe other staffs not attending for various reasons. I think if there are no extenuating circumstances, coaches should attend. But they did just hire Lazor, so there are some prep work things there. The GM sitch. I guess the coaching staff gets a pass, but as a fan, I'd prefer them there. The scouts, who were under Ireland, now answer to whom? Gaine, at the moment? There still could be some bad blood from the scouting side given the Ireland release. This would concern me even more if they were close to him. I am only speculating, of course, and would hope all would handle themselves professionally, but given the human factor, this is not always the case.
No big deal. It's not like Philbin plans on contending next year. it's another year of testing pro-gress.
It's no biggie, of course we're the only team other than the two Super Bowl teams who doesn't have their Head Coach there. Why should we, we're so very close, isn't that what the Ireland lovers have been telling us ? A team owned by a bozo, run by a 2nd rate scouting staff, a Head Coach that is not a leader of men, and with a dying fanbase. We are pretty much the complete joke of the league. But the blind homers on this board will continue to bury their heads and sing "lalalalala" because they don't want to hear the truth (like many of us said for years about Ireland). And here I am stuck with an emotional attachment I've had for 46 years and can't divorce myself from....
Even those who had the utmost respect for coach Shula (as most of us probably did), probably had no idea how good we had it with Don. If only he would have held onto Beathard or allowed a GM to get in place who knew personnel. Even still I'd take Don Shula the coach / GM over this mess. Even if he picked crap, he could make something very good from that crap!
Disagree man. I wouldn't want him to ruin his legacy somehow. Like most old time coaches the game has most likely passed him by in some respects.
While having the scouts, most coaches and Gaine there is fine for now, I think it shows just how little Ross knows about running an NFL team. When he should be here resolving the GM situation, at a critical time period for personnel acquisition, he's in China or wherever.... Sad state of affairs. Ah, heck, maybe he's going to sell the team to the Chinese....
Whether the game has passed him by is very debatable, afterall he was the master of making lemonade out of lemons, but physically he can't do the job any longer. It's a nice thought, but pretty unrealistic to have him back in a position of power with the Fins...
I get what you're saying but IMO saying there's no problem at all is just as bad as saying we are doomed to fail.
What happened to the idea of having the HC and assistant coaches on hand to get a better idea of what the players are like, first hand? How they respond to coaching. How they respond to criticism. What their personalities are like, etc. How they look first hand when they're asked to do something out of their comfort zones. What do the assistant coaches have better to do in January when the season is long over? Sure, scouts can be there but not having some coaches down there sounds shoddy and irresponsible to me.
Sounds good in theory, until you factor in that a lot of these scouts look for system specific skills in each player. It's actually quite pathetic we don't have Atleast some position coaches or our new OC there.
Not a big deal. I agree w/ Darlington; there is tons of game film on all these guys and they have access to the practice film and will have the game film too. Plus, we have scouts there. No. Big. Deal.
there's probably not a lot of instances where coaches who coach the senior bowl really found out much by doing so. I don't remember any coach coming out and saying so in years past. I bet the whole damn thing is a giant chore for them that gives no more insight than the tape and the combine give. and, as we've learned. its not like GM's listen to their coaches on everything anyway.
Well, Mike Singletary pushed for Patrick Willis HARD after he coached him in the Senior Bowl. I think San Francisco may have been prepared to choose someone else, but because of Singletary's persistence, the 49ers have a perennial Pro Bowler and a potential HOFer. It is absolutely a one-up if coaches are there to see them within the practices and the interactions with the coaches, media, etc. Yes, some may view this as a dog and pony show, but even the best of actors show snippets of truth in their performances. Watching tape does not tell the whole story. Taking that mentality of "tape tells all" is almost asinine in that one does not see the entire picture. It's painting without a medium.... Scouts will not be interacting with these guys as coaches will. One does have to wonder why they are not there. It's their choice, obviously, but what are the reasons behind not attending?
