I have been negative on Ireland as the Dolphins GM for the past two years. So I was happy to see Ross finally make the decision to get rid of him. I also happen to think that the reason Philbin is the Dolphins coach at this time is because he was the head coaching prospect in 2011 who was willing to take the job with Ireland being the GM. I don't think many of the head coaching prospects during that coaching search wanted to come to Miami and work with Ireland. So we ended up with Philbin.

I still have my concerns regarding Philbin as an NFL head coach and many of the coaches he hired as position coaches. Yet I think the major problem with this team is the overall lack of talent throughout the roster and that was the fault of Ireland. Hopefully the next GM can provide a more talented roster and that way we will at least be able to judge the ability of Philbin and the assistant coaches once they have better talent to coach.

Next year will be Philbin's third year with the Dolphins. My expectations for the team is that must have their first winning season in the past six years next year or else Philbin and the rest of the coaching staff should be replaced. If the Dolphins once again fail to have a winning season in 2014. I would imagine that would be the end of the Philbin and Tannehill era and Ross would be looking to hire a new head coach next year and the GM would be looking to draft a new young QB of the future.

Hopefully Philbin will turn out to be a quality head coach for the Dolphins and Tannehill will take a big step forward as an NFL QB under the direction of a new OC. 2014 is a do or die year for both these individuals and it is time both of them show all of us that they are the right men for their jobs.

The Chris Clemmons part. Care to take a look at the entire conversation ..instead of that one part..where no context is given. Your entire argument is based on media rumor and pancake batter substance.

Why don't you make the same argument to Barry Jackson? Better yet don't and save yourself the embarrassment. Jackson included that quote because it was indicative of the Philbin mindset, wake up.

The scary thing though is that Lazor seems to have actually been philbin's 3rd or 4th choice.

When, after a 3-0 start before it all went to crap? No one is saying that Philbin is awful, and most agree that Ireland getting the boot was a positive step. It's a given that a lot of the problems and dysfunction are due to Ireland being a jerk and a questionable GM as per player acquisition in the draft and FA. The question is, as per this article, is whether or not Philbin is the right man for the job. I think not.

Yes, by people who thought coming out flat against the winless Bucs during the height of Martingate, and going 0-2 to miss the playoffs at the end of the season, were signs of quality coaching.

Well, here's the second paragraph of that article:

"Understand something: I’m not saying Philbin, the Dolphins' second-year head coach, should be named anybody’s Coach of the Year, not the Associated Press, The Sporting News, Pro Football Weekly or any other major organization. He shouldn’t get a single first-place vote. In fact, if the Dolphins (8-6) fail to make the playoffs this season turns into a huge disappointment. Huge."

'Nuff said. Is that enough LOL for you?

And the point is... I find the rollercoaster of emotion to be quite amusing. How 2 games can completely flip the opinion of some.

Well, I like Don Shula, but here are some comments from him about Cam Cameron back in 2007:

"What are your impressions of Cam Cameron?

I think Cam is going to do a fine job. He was an assistant under Mary Schottenheimer out in San Diego and we have been good friends, Marty and I, over a period of time. When Cam got the job I talked to Marty about it and he said this is a good guy, a very fine human being and a good offensive football coach. And he is going to call the plays for the Dolphins and he has got a good staff on defense, to handle the defense. I think it's a step in the right direction for Wayne (Huizenga). I didn't think Jimmy Johnson was a good move and I didn't think (Nick) Saban — I knew Saban wasn't a good move. Now I think they have finally got it right in Miami. They have got a good coach with Cam Cameron."

    How did that work out?

And to be fair... one comment was a projection (Cam Cam) before a game had been played, and one comment was an evaluation (Philbin) after 2 seasons worth.

In the article Shula praised the people that Philbin hired, so I have to question that- Sherman and his extended family tree among others. So far, not so good, and Sherman has been punted out of the facility. Papa bear is gone, we'll se what happens with the other coaches/family members.

Kinda of interesting that the two best assistants -- Kacy Rodgers and Rizzi -- were holdovers from Sparano.

Devils advocate here, but as I remember the Packers struggled a lot right after Philbin left, particularly Rodgers.

I checks and they started 2-3 and people were really mad at Rodgers show start (lots of GB friends).

Obviously they finished out fine, but they really drug *** for the first half of the season. I always figure it had something to do with Philbin.

    Could be wrong though.

Those last two games were against two division rivals and we just needed to win ONE (1) of those games -one of which was at home- to make the playoffs. They ended up losing by combined points of 39-7, out of the playoffs and finished 3rd place in the division. Yes, two games can and should completely flip the opinion of some.

Part at the bottom is most concerning to me -

Ross continues to be a fish out of water as an NFL owner. Queue the "LaCanfora is a liar" dismissals.

I don't think there is any significant overlap between the people who want Philbin fired and the people who thought he was a plausible coach of the year candidate.

While Philbin is no Bill, Bill is not mountain of personality either. His knowledge of the game is what is lauded. I will be real curious to see how he does without Brady. I don't think Joe has to be dynamic. I do think there has to be dynamic player leadership. That is what has been lacking as of late. I do realize Joe is blamed for sending most of that packing that existed when he came in. This team needs some veteran leadership brought in. Who? Not sure right now, but you keep hearing about leaders on the winning teams. Vocal and model leaders in sync to pick the team up. Not too high, but certainly not too flat. Leaders who keep the path in focus. Do you expect that from Misi, Odrick, Jones, and even Starks or Solai? I saw more leadership from guys like Hartline, Wallace, and Grimes. Need some serious leadership in the front lines on both sides of the ball. Really disappointed in my fellow Georgia guys Ellerbe and Jones. Same for Wheeler.
Do any of you guys see potential captains in this last draft class?

Dis, I know you've been critical of Philbin for a while, so I wouldn't be referring to you. You aren't one who changes their opinion with the wind, which is why you're one of the more respected posters on here.
