I'm seeing a lot of negativity towards Aponte. Personally, I have no idea if she's good or bad at her job. Other than the soap opera Armando stuff, I don't understand all the hate. Can someone fill me in on why they don't think she's good at her job?
I dont think its possible to argue that..given we have the 6th most cap space available..a good solid young core of players..and a potential franchise qb. We are fiscally in very good shape. Id say she's rocked her job personally. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Don't give 2 ****s about her...glad she helped get Ireland out but if her presence is keeping us from getting the top GM candidates then that's a major problem
I'll simply say this: you don't make it far in that world as a woman unless you know how to play the game. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
Some folks don't like assertive women. Others like women who push back. Dawn is probably the latter. If she connived to get rid of Ireland and succeeded, I'd like to buy her a beer.
My problem with Aponte is that I know who she is. Been a fan since the early 90s and I've never heard of a capologist or whatever her title is. I can't name a single other teams Aponte type person and I shouldn't be able to name her either.
Google it. The term/job has been around since the dawn of the cap. You haven't been paying attention.
For me it's the Parcells vibe. I always hated the way Parcells treated people and his cronies seemed to emulate that style. It was my main complaint about Ireland and in the brief glimpse we had of Aponte she seemed to be cut from the same mold. Now I do believe she's done a good job with the cap so I've never said she must go, but how an organization treats people matters. And that's my concern regarding Aponte.
The victim of a ton of wild speculation in my guess. With what I know, which is next to nothing, she seems fine to me.
Ireland was a jerk, it had nothing to do with his being male or female. Same with Aponte, and the discussion as to her being criticized because she is a woman is way overblown imo. I don;t like what I saw of her and heard about her as a negotiator as to how she treats people, she seems to rubs players and agents the wrong way, leaves resentment trailing behind her, and that could lead to some free agents avoiding Miami, or maybe being nudged away by their agents. I don't like the positioning and currying favor with Ross to solidify her position and consolidate power. I am borderline disgusted by her overbearingness and Philbin's weenieness as per her shadowing him like a svengali and the who embarrassing Aponte press release index card debacle. There was just too much infighting, positioning, squabbling and power grabbing for my taste. And to be perfectly clear about it so I don't have to read any slow witted posts to the contrary, I'm very happy that Ireland got kicked out on his rear, or for those who don't know a jettisoning when they see one, his power and authority were reduced to the point that to save face he didn't really have any choice but to resign. Everyone has their opinion, and that's fine. Mine is that I would have preferred seeing Ireland, Sherman, Aponte and Philbin all sent packing. Bring in a new, experienced GM who knows his stuff and let him rebuild after cleaning house. For the stat fans out there, does anyone know of the last time when more GM candidates simply turned away from a shot at the job as we've had down here in the last few weeks? I'd like some historical perspective on how rare, or not rare, that really is.
How was Jeff Ireland the scapegoat if HE was the problem? I agree there is nothing wrong with her but you can't call Jeff Ireland the scapegoat when he's been the problem.
While I totally understand your sentiment, agents aren't always the nicest, either. It's merely perspective: agents work for their clients, and Aponte works for the organization. Sometimes, things can get difficult amid negotiation. Unless we have some difinitive, non-biased information, I will hold my judement of her because it seems as though she is extremely adept at her position. While I understand that things were said via the media, we have to wonder the whistleblower's intent. Revenge? I find it odd in how she seems to be "in everything", but I am not running Ross' business. With that, there are many instances in business where people where several different hats regardless of title. This may be the case woth Aponte. Obviously, Ross is impressed, and she is good at her official position, so who knows? Let's hope she continues to do a fine job as a capologist, and does well for the organization with her other duties.
If she's kept as a capologist that's fine, hopefully reporting to the GM , if he will actually have total control over the roster as mentioned by Ross, there seems to be some amiguity there. Yes, Ross is impressed with Aponte. Then again, he's impressed with Philbin. He was previously impressed with Ireland. Huizenga was impressed with Wannstedt, Cameron and Saban- Dolphins owners seem to be impressed a lot, and wrong a lot. I don't like the drama bs and infighting that Aponte was involved in, bottom line. None of us know exactly how to break that down as perr her, Ireland and Philbin, we're all outsiders. It's combination if that, what I saw in hard Knocks and what i've read that forms my opinion- the way that she treated Tannehill in the negotiations- I would have been hard pressed to not tell her to eff off if I was in his shoes, and if I was the new GM and she manipulated behind the scences, kissing the owner's hiney so that she could report to him and not the GM- I wouldn't be a fan of that at all. We'll see how many more candidates drop out of consideration on their own, and maybe eventually we'll know the reasons why.
Of course the position exists. I said I never knew nor cared who filled the position. More importantly, she seems to be in the news for a lot more than just handling the cap, no?
Probably. I also think it has to do with her doing more than just handling the cap. Inserting herself into disputes between the HC and GM for instance.
I think she has done a great job. All the big money signings we did last summer and we still have all this cap space this summer. That is doing a great job of managing the books. Seems to me like she is an asset. Hard to really know what went on as far as all the drama.
That is going to happen just because she is a woman in a position generally held by men and by generally, I believe she is the only one.
Any high profile job requires more than just actual job skills...man or woman you need to know how to "play the game" in these types of careers. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
This sums up how I feel about her and anyone that was around the Parcells/Ireland regime. We should have just cleaned house a long time ago and moved on from all of them.
Aponte is a keeper in any nfl organization... most unfortunately, she is also next on the media/fan-base mindless hate-list for whatever irrational reason: woman, association with Parcells, good working-relationship with Ross & Philbin...whatever there will always be a target as long as the Dolphins call Miami home. the undercurrent of anti feminist sentiment make this a shamefully obvious, ugly & pungent, mindless attack at any level. it is what it is. the woman is an excellent football executive
that would be my opinion i.e. I believe not only Ireland but Incognito ( the both of them ) were unfairly sacrificed to a racial card maliciously played by the anti-Miami media & an uninformed, irrational, disgruntled, fickled, impatient & unsupportive fan-base. none of this ugliness will ultimately bode well in Dolfandom. I suspect there is an excellent chance that both Philbin & Tannehill will be next on list. as a matter of fact, just read our own forum, the attack is already unfolding before our eyes... it is what it is, as always around here: a whining, unstable & uncomfortable climate for the franchise what this team needs is time & consistency to develop... this simply will never happen in Miami. if we are not successful in 2014, I think the franchise could be sold & relocated to a more favorable environment in the end, contrary to much that is bloviated across the South Florida landscape, Ross is no fool & an excellent businessman. he will turn a buck, one way or another with his investment.
She manages the cap, and I'm assuming the contract terms? If so I'd say she's done a bang-up job. We always seem to have cap room, and our contracts are usually cut-friendly and allow us to protect ourselves (Wheeler and Ellerbe aside, but I feel that's more of a condemnation on the scouting staff/GM than her. Can't expect to attract a hot FA with a contact that allows you to slip out after 1 season unscathed. It's not her fault they're not panning out, and she should be able to expect that they'd be available for at least 2 years ). My biggest question is retention and longevity. Are our guys leaving because she's cheap? Or is she cheap because the coaching staff is unwilling to commit to our players long-term? I'd imagine the staff said something like" Jake Long is good, but not elite long term, so dong give him a 5 year contract." And she complied. If her job is just keeping cap available for quality players, and protecting us in contracts, I think she's been great. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Frankly I think you're wildly off-base accusing people of being sexist in regards to Aponte. Her name came to the forefront over the last few months because of the front office dynamic that people are wondering about, not because she's a woman. I think the support for her is fine but to accuse people that aren't big on her of being sexist is groundless at best and inflammatory and dishonest at worst. If you don't know someone you have no reasoning to assume they are sexist. The fact that we are even discussing our "capoligist" says a lot, I mean why do we even know her name? Why does she even come up?
I think you are wildly off-base with calling him wildly off-bass, because honestly if she wasn't a woman, who would care? There have been people in her position, doing the exact same thing for the last ten years or so and none of them have gotten half of the press as Aponte. When they do get the press, people generally don't give two F's because it isn't that important. Why does she even come up? Because she is a woman doing a man's job. Why do you even know her name? Because she is a woman doing a man's job. The people came up last time, why didn't pay attention to them then? At the time, I knew their names.
I'm not sure what you're driving at. She's in the news. Yes. Why is she in the news? I don't know, but I'd guess it is more due to blatant sexism than her being some sort of...whatever it is people are accusing her of being. Rafael can't even put his finger on why he doesn't like her (NOT calling Rafael a sexist. Just saying that nobody's really put forth some good reason to dislike her.).
I know her name b/c she has been on a tv show about my team and b/c she is listed as one of the few people in the interviews. I could care less what her gender is.
I have posted with Rafael for many years & can assure you he is neither anti feminist nor a racist. he is a dolfan, well-informed & a major contributor to our forum. he is a person of character, simple as that...
Incognito molested a volunteer and Ireland insisted on keeping him. If that's okay with you, then I'm sorry.
She comes up because she apparently was involved in some sort of power struggle on our team. No one knows or cares who their team's capoligist is and the fact that she is a woman is meaningless. Its a made up distraction argument from people who just simply don't know what they are talking about. Its embarrassing, frankly.
