I agree, but I think overall, this isn't a defense that's going to take you places. I saw somewhere today that Miami allowed 1,998 yards rushing this year at a 4.1 ypc clip - that's bad, especially compared to what the run defense was in 2012 and especially 2011. I think if anything was apparent these past two weeks, it's that you still have to be able to stop the run to win, even in today's pass-happy NFL. Miami wilted way too frequently in that regard all season long, especially these past two weeks. The pass defense and turnovers becoming better mitigates that, but only to a certain degree and Miami learned that the hard way. The hodgepodge mix of players and scheme is certainly a step back from last year though.
I'm going to throw my 2 cent in now. I would bet anything that our idiot owner fires Ireland and Sherman. (Which is good) but he retains Philbin. (Very bad) and this is why......we will not get our first or 2nd choice GM because they will want to come in here and do it there way. (Like fisher wanted to) what we will get is someone so desperate to move up the chain that they accept it. The offensive coordinator you ask? We will not get our first choice it will be 3rd or fourth or so on. No top offensive coordinator will want to come here with a new GM and same coach. They will be worried about it being just a 1 year deal and then the new GM fires philbin along with everyone else. Sheesh.
Seriously? If Ireland is retained, this is your blueprint for success? Get rid of the ONLY guy on the offensive line and give Ireland more draft picks to **** off with? Brilliant!
I could see this happening just as you said.. Remember last year was Phibins first year. He evaluated got with Ireland and changes were made. Burnette, Dansby - gone. Reggie - Gone. Bring in Mike Wallace. Seems like we went backwards. Not forward. This is what happens when you let others start messing with what you are trying to put together.
Doesn't what you say have to come true first before you toot your own horn? Lol... Lets see what GM and OC we hire...
I think Coach Philbin has a lot more juice around the league than you think. How do we determine who are the top GM candidates?
So Mcadoo is off the board. Left the dolphins headquarters and signed immediately. 1st choice gone..... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Whether it turns out poorly because of this or not, this was a pretty salient observation, I must confess. That's exactly what they did. And, it has had a negative impact - I believe - on both the hiring of the OC and the hiring of a GM (the two firing moves ostensibly work at cross purposes). Perhaps the best thing they could have done is focus on hiring a new GM and let him be deeply involved in hiring an OC? But, there is no doubt the Dolphins are struggling to land the OC they would like as well as landing the GM they want. Bottom line - you made a solid prediction (whether all of it pans out remains to be seen) - and there is clear dysfunction at the top of the food chain in Miami (Ross) as I noted in another thread on Ross' failed leadership.
I was wrong on my prediction. I thought we would get our 3rd or 4th option at gm. It was our 7th or 8th option. OY....... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
