The Green Bay Press Gazette confirms through multiple sources that Brett Favre has indeed contacted the Packers about returning, and that his relationship with GM Ted Thompson partly led to his retirement.
There is no doubt Favre talked to coach Mike McCarthy about coming back two weeks ago, despite Favre's claims to the contrary. It's also clear through Favre's family and this report that Thompson doesn't want Favre back. The Gazette says Favre would have "un-retired" as early as May if Thompson had asked him back, but that didn't happen. Thompson reportedly isn't returning Favre's agents calls. This is all a little childish on both sides, but Favre can force Thompson's hand by being definitive about his plans. It's debatable whether he'll be willing to do so.

Man this is like an afternoon soap....:pity:

    When you retire ,,,,,,, RETIRE!

What does Favre have to prove? I mean the guy had one hell of a season last year. Yes he didn't make it to the big game but jesus he went out on a very high note..

Favre is like a little kid with this bull****. I just saw Favre's brother on NFL live say the odds of him coming back are 50/50, WOW. If I was Aaron Rodgers I would be pissed as hell if he comes back this year again after all this. I give the Packers credit for looking like their putting their foot down.

I can see this thing blowing up when camp gets here.

While id love to see brett play again, because the things he does on that field are quite unreal at times... im really tired of this stuff. Sure he's great, sure he's a legend. That doesnt give him the right to continually screw up the teams plans year after year by retiring, then coming back, then retiring... etc etc. This team has clearly prepared for life without Brett, Rogers getting his time, they drafted QBs, it all points to a Favre-less packers team. Now this? Dare I call mr. favre selfish, but its sure seeming that way. Hopefully the packers stick to their plan now, but it is really, really hard to turn down Brett Favre when he wants to play for your team. Just wish this would end already... but at least its something to talk about during the slow summer months.

I know one name that can disagree with you on that.

Damn what's his name again? From ESPN? Its either Pasquarelli or Palantonio?

yeah it was palantonio's article. i recall it, in a way that piece did make some sense too.

the guys on sirius NFL were talking about Carolina as a nice place for Brett to end up.

their reasoning was based on Delhomme's inability to get anything done, and the panthers being a team that could contend in their eyes, and Favre putting them over the top. However they were also mentioning that the pack would be looking for a first or 2nd round pick... or they were saying that thats what teams would have to offer to at least get Favre's rights if he was to unretire... something along those lines anyways.

Nobody is going to give up that compensation unless they are a QB away from the SB, as crazy as that sounds. Delhomme has reportedly looked good and his arm looks stronger than before. I think the Panthers are contenders. They now have two receivers opposite of Smith.

oh no doubt. I think some one would be crazy to give up that high of a pick for Favre now, unless they were on the edge of winning a super bowl, and knew they needed a better QB than they had to do just that. I sure hope nobody in our FO is considering this option. I doubt they are, but still. Stranger things have happened. But hey, we sit here and say nobody will give that up, but didnt the Chiefs do something similar to that with Joe Montana?? Maybe im wrong... But i could have sworn that was the case... i was 11 or 12 then though so my memory isnt working that well!

If he gets released Minnesota needs to strongly pursue him.

I think Id instantly throw up. However, if by some miracle he does go back to GB it could help get the JT trade to happen. Odds still seem slim, but that would improve our chances.

They already are a contender. Some have them picked as a SB team. If they get him, I think people can pencil them in as the winners of the SB, as BK said earlier.

Very true but just looking at that team all their missing is a QB.

They got Berrian and Rice, a decent TE in Shiacoe?, the best running game in football and possibly the best front 7 in football. I would either pencil them in at either the 1 or 2 seed in the NFC. Man what a storyline it would be if Favre joined a arch rival like that. That would be like Marino going to the Jets..... Okay forget I said that
