and then some. He lost my confidence when he named Clowney a midseason All American DE despite 2 sacks, 3 TFL, 1 FF, 0 FR, 0 PD, and 0 TD at the time........ meanwhile Beasley had 9 sacks, 12 TFL, 2 FF, 1 FR, 5 PD, 1 TD. That's flat out embarrassing. Beasley's best game of the first half was more productive than all of Clowney's combined. 3 sacks, 3 TFL, 1 FF, and 2 PD against NC State.
I love Timmy Jernigan but I don't know if I'm ever going to get the vision out of my head of him sitting on the sidelines gassed for two of the most important drives of the game.
Hm, here's a video from two days ago where he says he's still undecided: http://www.usatoday.com/videos/sports/ncaaf/sec/2014/01/04/4321453/ Unless news has popped up since then, but there doesn't seem to be anything on Twitter about it
I know he's technically not a 2014 target, but since we're talking about the title game: despite Winston being the runaway favorite for the #1 pick in 2015, do the gurus see some flaws with him? Granted, he is a freshman, but I see work to be done with him and his windup scares me. There's obviously a lot to like, but these issues as well as the fact that he's got fantastic weapons around him makes me wonder if he's such a slam dunk.
He looked average tonight. Much like Cam Newton did in his BCS Championship Game. He's looked far above average in other games. I'm not thoroughly convinced this kid is Andrew Luck type talent or anything but there's a reason eyes are on him. What he is right now reminds me of what Teddy Bridgewater was when he became the hot dot.
When the pressure got to him he instantly brought his gaze down and only ran. I'm sure he missed out on some huge plays after evading traffic in the pocket. I would have liked to see him evade pressure (which he did a good amount of time), gather himself and at least eye what is going on down field.
It was a good game last night but I'm still in awe of the performance of Sammy Watkins against the buckeyes. How do you guys rate him with regards to Evans and Benjamin. The guy to me is the definition of play maker and his burst is just ridiculous. I haven't seem a whole lot of college football but from what I have seen I have them. 1. Watkins 2. Evans 3. Benjamin.
The real question is whether Sammy Watkins or Mike Evans is the best wide receiver in this draft and I think the answer to that will depend on what you want to add specifically to your receiver unit...much like last year the question of Cordarrelle Patterson versus Tavon Austin depended on what specifically you needed. Truthfully I've never even had Kelvin Benjamin in the first round. I like what he does but I think the hype is getting away from itself. Whenever I'd watch Benjamin, I always liked him more than the other BIG dude for this draft Brandon Coleman of Rutgers...but now all the sudden we're to believe Kelvin is the best receiver in the draft and to that I say the pendulum has swung too far.
He is a top 5 mismatch player in the draft imo. (My top 5 mismatch players in the draft inpo Benjamin, Ebron, Robinson, Manziel, Bortles.)
Could definitely get behind this kid. Probably has a better chance at going high this year, as opposed to 2015 which could be freaking stacked at RB. But yea, great looking athlete at the size you want, decisive cuts to square upfield, nose for the endzone. Good stuff. The RBs who I've checked out most and like given their projections are Mason (probably the tops in this class) and Adam Muema from SDSU (projected 7th-UDFA), who I'm a big fan of. Here's Muema in their bowl game, which he took over in the second half (some particularly sweet runs in the 3rd Q). Also serves as a Khalil Mack video, and who's going to say no to that... Texas A&M OT Cedric Ogbuehi receives first-round grade Texas A&M offensive tackle Jake Matthews isn't the only Aggies tackle projected to go in the first round of the NFL draft this spring. Aggies right tackle Cedric Ogbuehi confirmed speculation that he has been a fast-riser this season as a draft prospect, telling reporters that he received a first-round grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...m-ot-cedric-ogbuehi-receives-firstround-grade -- I think that he's the guy, would solve the LT problem. Then in the 2nd round I'd have no problem going right back in for a RT (Collins or Moses?) or maybe a WR if a really good one is still available. Maybe go DE if Jordan is moved to OLB, maybe OLB. Plenty of holes on this roster, but OL has to be fixed.
For those interested in this sort of thing, here's my inaugural post on the top QBs (Bortles, Carr, Manziel, Bridgewater). I've said a lot of it here already, but you know sometimes it's fun to see it all in one place: http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/45952/349/2014s-quarterback-conundrum Edit: Also at the end of the piece are all the target charts including #Buttchart
I just recently started looking at RBs in the draft and there are a fewbthatnwould fit what I'm looking for in Miami, a power back. For a later round pick I love what James Wilderncould bring to out team, BUT if Tre Mason is available with our 2nd pick we need to jump on this kid quick. Has the ability to jump cut like gio Bernard hut can lower his head like lacy, always falling forward and runs strong and balanced. I'm having award time comparing him to someone but he is just a good overall runner. He reminds me of LT a little bit, maybe not as much FLASH to his game but this kd is going to be a stud in the NFL. His YAC is very impressive
He reminds me a bit of Ray Rice in the few games I've seen him. The word that kept coming to me when I see him is "slippery". He just has a way of shaking tackles that reminds me of Rice.
D'Anthony Thomas please in the 3rd round if he gets that far. I can't stress enough how we need a pass catching threat out of the backfield that can also create mismatches in the slot. I would love a running back random of Miller, Thomas (or new power back), and D'anthony Thomas as our Sproles.
Oh my god, last I heard he wanted to stay at school. This makes me very happy. He needs to be a Dolphin.
The difference comes in acceleration thru a cut..he just doesn't lose any speed upfield...pretty impressive..
Alright, I charted out Troy Niklas (partly using Chris' compilation video, thanks for that!). Here are the results. Overall YAC is about 6.41, which is ahead of Amaro (5.82). It drops a little to 5.5 yds when you cap YAC at 20 yards due to his 66 yard catch against Temple. For his size that's great considering that Ertz/Eifert only averaged around 3.5 at similar body types/ play styles. Amongst the 5 TEs I have done, he has the highest yards after contact at 3.63 yds which you can see as he drags defenders on more than a few plays. The small sample size makes his drop rate kind of wonky, but I counted 3 drops which works out to 8.6%. It doesn't worry me because it doesn't seem to be a reoccurring problem. 31% of his receptions were 11+ yards which is in pretty stark contrast to Amaro who caught the majority of his passes in the 1-5 yard zone on those quick hitters in the TTU offense. The majority of Niklas' YAC came on 11-20 yard passes (62% of total YAC on 28% of attempts to the 11-20 yard zone). Which again is in contrast to Amaro who gained most of his YAC on 1-5 yard passes. If you really want to compare them, Amaro is more apt to catch a short pass and get a first down while Niklas is more likely to catch an intermediate pass down the seam and take it far. Depends on what you're looking for. Most of the other TEs played in-line around 20-30% of the time. On all of Niklas' targets he was lined up in-line 71% of the time. That'll be a feather in his cap for those that like more traditional TEs with receiving skills. I've got a sortable chart on my site with the relevant TE data so you can compare YAC, etc: http://secondroundstats.com/?page_id=598
UDFA DJ Adams Portland State http://www.goviks.com/custompages/Statistics/Football/2013/teamcume.htm
I wouldn't mind throwing JC Copeland into the mix. We could use a ferocious fullback in the Vonta Leach mold who can also be called upon in short yardage situations.
