http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...-kelly-dolphins-0110-20140109,0,3988316.story Does Omar have a drinking problem? This reads like he wrote it on the nod.
Ross fell into the same trap a number of owners have in that he believed that fat piece of **** Parcells was actually going to build a winner or cares about a franchise long term. The guy lost it ages ago and was padding his retirement account with that idiotic contract Ross gave him. Now we have finally rid ourselves of the last piece of that horrible decision to employ that tired fat son of a ***** who couldn't have given a crap about this team's long term future. I think Ross made a rookie mistake and he's learned from it. I have new found respect for him, I honestly thought he was going to let Ireland have another draft and we would be hopeless this year. He's getting the benefit of doubt from me. He did exactly what I would have done this offseason so far.
It's Omar. It's an opinion; but honestly, there are some good points made. These Miami beat writers have been surprising me lately. What is this world coming to???
Agreed. Strange I actually understand and agree w/ Omar's perspective. David Hyde's video commentary on the subject was very good too. All in all, I'm in a wait and see mode. I think there's a few scenario's in which this all ends well but I certainly see why there is skepticism with Ross's game plan. I thought Ireland should of been fired w/Sparano. And one of the big reasons was because Ireland was fighting to keep his job, while Philbin had a clean slate. Unfortunately my fears came true and it resulted in the Incognito-Martin scandal (Ireland refusing to cut him as his job was on the line) and an "all in" spending spree to make up for poor drafting and bad trades (Marshall to Chicago for a massive discount). I don't want to see that again... but I don't want to see Philbin fired after two seasons when there's enough evidence that player personnel was the culprit. Hopefully we get a qualified GM who wants to make the marriage w/Philbin work.
They're surprising me too. To the point where I have no interest what they have to say. I'm pretty sure Ross gets as many shots as he wants.
I think you are wrong. There is nothing but a clown after clown in So Fla media: Mando, Omar, Joe Rose, LeBatard, clown after clown.
You said it was embarrassing because there were so many Ireland backers in the media. Nothing about clowns. I don't consider Rose a clown anyway. So your list is debatable.
Joe Rose is an idiot. There are some good media guys, Hyde, Skolnick, you can count thos on one hand. The rest are all clowns. Now as far as Ireland backers, whoever is an Ireland backer is a complete idiot, that is a proven fact.
There are not enough Ireland backers among the media for it to be an embarrassment for Sou Fla, which was your original comment.
Wow....Joe Rose is an idiot? I love listening to Joe Rose. Dude loves our Phins, cuz well.....he played for us.
I don't understand why people would have a problem with this article. Omar Kelly or not, it's a valid point, and I think something that is valuable to have out there. Ross has ****ed up a lot, and beyond hiring the wrong guy or not firing someone quick enough. He could be, or is already a major impediment to potential hires.
You should be banned a long time ago, now it should be permanent after that comment. Rose is a damn good voice of reason for the phins, and speaks the truth, but also is a fan. Talk about spade calling a spade...
He scared parcells off rather quickly, whether he meant to or not. But you went in depth in faulting Ross for bringin him here, now just keeping him... he did neither.
The fact is that Ross has been the majority owner for the past five years. The Dolphins have not had a single winning season during this time period. So I agree 100% that it is time he proves he is not the major problem with this franchise. He allowed Ireland to remain in his job two years longer than he should have. He hired Philbin, who so far appears to be a very average NFL HC. I don't doubt that Ross wants to build a winning team in South Florida. I just don't know if he has what it takes, (other than being a billionaire), to be a successful owner in the NFL. Hopefully his GM selection will help turn this team around, but if not, it will be Ross who will be the person who will be most responsible for any future failures by this team. He will now be the owner who hired the coach he wanted and the GM, and also put Aponte into a position where she has gained a lot of power in the organization. Ross will certainly deserve the credit if all these personnel moves work out and the team becomes a winner once again. He will also deserve the the lion share of the blame if this team continues to remain nothing but another mediocre team in the NFL. Right now I am happy Ireland is no longer the GM and I am certainly willing to give Ross the benefit of the doubt. I just hope he doesn't disappoint me again by hiring another mediocre GM for this team.
While Ross hasn't been perfect, you have to appreciate having an owner who is willing to spend big money and is all about winning. That's more than A LOT of sports fans can say about their team's.

I don't believe he scared Parcells one bit. The contract Parcells signed with Huizenga, allowed Parcells to leave his job at any time if Huizenga sold the majority interest in the team to someone else. Included in this contract was a provision which said that Parcells would be paid the entire amount of his contract, even if he decided to leave his job before the contract ran its course. I don't think Parcells liked working with Ross, so he took all the money and departed the premises. I don't think Parcells being scared of Ross had anything to do with his leaving. How can you be scared of anyone who has to pay you millions of dollars, whether you leave or stay. I think it is more likely that Parcells just didn't like the way Ross was running the organization after Huizenga sold the team to him.
Why is no blame placed on the minority owners as well? I'm looking at you, Mark Anthony, JLo, Williams sisters. Jimmy Buffet also seems to most often sidestep blame. And why hasn't TPain shown face? Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I have no problem with any billionaire spending his or her money. As far as him being all about winning goes. When this team actually has a winning season under his ownership, at that time I will be happy having an owner who is all about winning. Right now though, he is 0 for 5 when it comes to providing Dolphin fans with a winning football team.
