Ireland had his shot, the team did not perform.

However, if you look at the "cornerstone" positions:

    Cb: Grimes
    C: Pouncey
    Wr: Wallace or Hartline
    Qb Tannehill
S Jones (tho he did have a down yr)
    Pass rushing DE: Wake/Vernon

Classically LT would be on that list, however times have changed, you either have to go bit and acquire/draft a LT AND RT, it's foolish to include just LT on the list.

Now personally, I'd rustoleum McKinnie and draft a RT.

LG bothers me a bit more tbh.

Basically the OL has to be rebuilt

Keep in mind as well, a New GM is likely to move slow at evaluating our pending FA's, and they have their own views on the Draft

Hopefully we can get Grimes to sign a multi-year deal and not have to use the franchise tag.

First round pick has to be the best OT on the board IMO. Then take a couple of OG.

    Get off my lawn.
Release Patterson for an extra 5.4 mil and sign Grimes, Starks, and bring in another OL... then have room to maneuver in the draft.

Although all that is worthless if we bring in Ireland 2.0

TBH, I'd go LG at #19..TE or MLB or MAYBE DT would make sense as well

But Grimes and to a lesser extent Clemons (who turned the corner imo) and Starks or Soliai

Ellerbe just was not very good this year

Just so long the new GM realizes...playmakers count for more then linemen.

One more John Jerry over Graham and I'll explode

I understand that, but if we try to fix the entire OL through the draft, you'll just end up with a bunch of young linemen who will inevitably make mistakes and Tannehill running for his life again... need some veteran stability other than McKinnie and Pouncey.

Can you even franchise Grimes? That'd be what, 14 mil?

I am predicting that Brent Grimes will be returning to his hometown of Philadelphia P.A.

The Eagles are CB needy and the Eagles are cap rich.

But take heart, the CB FA market is bounteous.

I hope they find a younger guy. Keenan Lewis should have been signed to a 5 year deal last year and we wouldn't be talking about this. So glad Ireland is gone forever.

Closer to 10 or 11, iirc. We can always tag him and rescind it if we can get him locked up long-term in season.

11.25 is the projected number for a CB. I think Section suggested 4 years, 32 million. If the deal is structured correctly, then I could live with that. Still interested in Sam Shields though. Simply because of age.

We will at a minimum need 3 offensive linemen, to me RT is rather easy to fill, LG is just hard to fill, and RG we could stick a traffic cone out there and do better then Jerry.

To me, that is where Dallas Thomas should start out, LG..MAYBE..

Thing is, we still have Taylor and Davis, I thought Carrol improved a helluva of a lot as the season rolled along

Davis should enough in camp this year to warrant some excitement in going into his sophomore season. Jamar Taylor... He's looking like another 2nd round Ireland pick. Not at all happy with his inability to get on the field or stay healthy. I wouldn't bank on either of them though. As for Carrol, I agree. He did improve. Not sure if I would feel comfortable with him in competition for a starting job though (I think Davis should/can be the future Nickle).

If the Dolphins can fix the offensive line, get the necessary people signed, and have some cash to burn, I would still explore the Sam Shields option. Key word is explore... I'm not sure what type of contract he wants.

Grimes has probably played his last game as a Dolphin. Here is one piece that should be added to the secondary.
    http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=204766110&

Cockrell is grossly underrated IMO. THE SCOUTS ARE CRAZY!
    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/12/02/4514884/blue-devils-secondary-credits.html#.Us5F-fRDvQA

He will be in the Shrine game. http://www.wralsportsfan.com/duke-s-cockrell-to-play-in-east-west-shrine-game/13243817/

Another guy to consider is veteran Will Blackmon who got a lot of snaps in Jacksonville this year because of injuries. At midseason, he was actually ranked higher by PFF than Grimes. He will still be a mid to bottom tier FA because he is 29 and has never been a starter. This could be a high value signing.

Time to move on from nolan Carroll, no need to pay him a contract with Taylor and Davis in the fold..plus I can prove on three different occasions he pu$$ied out on tackles in important situations, like I mean totally pu$$ied out..don't want that mentality anywhere near this team.

well it woulda been nice if Taylor or Davis had shown us anything as rookies, but they didn't. Carroll is one of the few Ireland guys who actually developed, I'd try to keep him.

remember with a new GM in the fold, there will be overhaul, all these young draft picks that haven't shown much like Jamar Taylor, Will Davis, Egnew, Dallas Thomas etc, these guys are no longer on solid footing here, if they don't show massive improvement in camp/preseason, their roster spots are in jeopardy.

There's definitely reasons for optimism. Padre is dead on, that a lot of this will hinge on not only the o-line, but what happens with Grimes.... and Soliai/Starks to a lesser extent.

There's an opportunity for a new OC to come in get on the fast track to being a HC. The running game can only improve and I think the same can be said for RT. Just rebuild the line.

The Defense is a bit more complicated, but let's start with Grimes.

We do have some pieces in place. RTH looks promising and has made some strides. He still needs to get much better. I'm not ready to place Vernon or Jones on that list yet. Jones ranked among the worst safeties in the league last year and quite frankly was a liability for our defense. While Vernon tallied up some sacks, he was a liability against the run and completely disappeared at times. The good news is they both are young and can definitely improve.

I think it's very unlikely Grimes leaves. Hopefully we'll sign him to a multi-year deal, but at worst we have the cap room to franchise him.

obviously that would be bad. But that's not about drafting position/playmaking - that's about talent evaluation.

How about a Steve Hutchinson over a Donald Egnew?

We absolutely dropped the ball last year not signing Eric Winston. I think we need to bring in some bodies in Fa and not force our hand in the draft. Geoff Schwartz would be at the top of my list as a guy who could get signed at a pretty descent deal. I would like to go into the draft knowing we can take best players available and not pass on a star cuz we need to reach on a o lineman.

Is it really that big of a deal? If you understand what the person means, it was clear enough.

You're insulting the poor guy for something that isn't even a big deal.

Why would you want him though. He came off sn injury, started terribly, heated up and proceeded to get badly injured again.

What about that sounds remotely good?

His market value has plummeted while still holding the potential to be a pro-bowl backer. I'm not saying throw money at him but even if he can be healthy for 8-10 games....there is definitely value there to be found. Beggars, and make no mistake we are beggars when it comes to finding o-linesmen, can't be choosers.
