Years from now Dolphins fans will ask each other: "Where were you when you got the news Ireland had been fired?"
funny, if I just based their potential on college tape I would give it to Dallas Thomas..Martin had bust written all over him.
Ding Dong The Witch IS Dead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHQLQ1Rc_Js Don't mean to offend anyone, just sharing my feelings honestly. I wish Jeff Well in whatever he does now. Anybody know a better parting song for Jeff??
Ireland built a mediocre team. He wasn't a bad GM...he was mediocre and couldn't get over that hump, creating more holes when fixing others that left the Dolphins going nowhere. And eventually, whether you're a bad 2-5 win team every year or a mediocre 6-8 win team, you still missed the playoffs every time. At least there is some talent, but the next one better know how to draft consistently and build an O-Line. Not to mention bring respect back to the franchise. By the way, might this mean Daniel Thomas is also on the way out? The two guys who had hard-ons for him are gone. Nothing against him either, sometimes a change of scenery is what a player needs.
While I'm not quite sure this needed to be it's own thread, I counted at least 4 times (myself included) that someone posted this same clip in the Ireland is out thread. So funny that this is the scene that popped into so many of our heads upon hearing the news. Just goes to show how Ireland really had morphed into a super villain in his 6 seasons of douchebaggery and failure here.
It pertained to Incognito when we first signed him. The 1st contract was a 1 yr more or less tryout. It was mentioned in an article during the middle of that season how we'd have to wait to extend him because of his being on a 1 yr UFA deal. He wasn't getting big money that first year, but I don't think it was minimum either.
This video and that phrase sums up the exact way I felt when I heard the news that he was no longer our GM.
It was certainly time for him to go, but he didn't half the damage to this organization than Wanny/Mueller did... At least he left us better than when he got here... But, time to move on.... I'm in for Tom Gamble...
My thought exactly. Ireland actually took us from thr depths into mediocrity where we could at least TALK playoff scenarios late season. Now we need to find someone who can take us from mediocrity to greatness.
3 things: 1) Miko Grimes is becoming less and less intelligent with every passing tweet. 2) If you want my signature about Ireland provided via Section 126 take it as I am retiring it at some point today, because I move on from things rather quickly. 3) That being said I am doing just that, moving on and would hope this board goes back to football and less about the Irish dick pulling contest, so with that..... Thank you Mr. Ireland for trying to make my team better and thank you for your service.
Christmas came late this year. Or, early I guess, depending on your viewpoint. Either way, I'm a happy camper.
Now that Ireland is gone we can return our focus to the next upcoming event. GML 2014 (General Manager League) should be starting up soon. Look for the forum section and make it known your interested in the current "itch" thread. Run a team in the most old fashioned way possible and make good friends like Vengeful Odin and I did last year ;p
Wow. Well I guess my birthday wish came true this year! January 6 make a wish. January 7 wish granted! Thank you
you are so wrong there is no way Wanny was worse then Ireland Dave won more games then any coach since Shula . I think too many people give Ireland credit . Wannstedt was a better coach then Philbin or Sparano . Dave 's draft picks were no worse then Ireland or Parcells . I did not like Dave's draft picks for the most part but his coaching wasn't the problem . I can see where Dave went wrong but he had more class then Ireland or Sparano .
Jamar Fletcher Eddie Moore None of Ireland picks were that bad. He won more games because he is a decent coach and he had talent that JJ brought on the team. You do not like Ireland? The reason we have Ireland is because of Wanny.
It was worse than that b/c he was passing up an obvious, easy picks. Fletcher was taken instead of Brees. Moore was taken instead of Boldin. Those were obvious picks at the time, not in retrospect.
I will be honest, I wasn't a fan of Brees. I was fine with him passing on him. However that didn't stop me cussing really loud and having my Raider Fan uncle call me right away to tell me he was sorry. I don't care if Jamar Fletcher turned out to be a hall of fame cornerback. Miami already had 2 awesome cornerbacks and that was a time in the NFL where nickel wasn't such a dominate defense. There was a HUGE need on offense. Could use a quarterback, I wasn't a fan of Brees, however even if Brees failed it would have been a better pick because, at least he tried to improve quarterback instead of settling for Fiedler. Miami needed a runningback really bad, next pick, Michael Bennett. Miami needed more talent at wide receiver, 3 picks later, Reggie Wayne. Miami was desperate for a good tight end, 4 picks later, Todd Heap! All three players that I knew about and thought would have been excellent picks at the time.
I remember Wayne being considered the most likely other option for those who didn't want Brees. It was during that long stretch where for some reason we ignored all the talent coming out of UM. That was from the Wanny years and didn't end until Parcells left.
I remember wanting all three of those players. Bennett's speed really excited me. I love speed. Edit: One more thing I would like to point out was the fact that Jamar Flecther was also a poor fit for the defense that he Miami played. Jamar Fletcher was a great zone cornerback. Miami played a bump and run, man to man coverage. The best he could have played in the defense was a nickel type situation.
The only thing I had against Bennett is that I don't like taking RBs in the first. Wanny could only evaluate DL. He was horrid at every other position and he never understood how important the fit between the player's skill and the scheme was. He also didn't understand how important the QB was.
That is my take as well, Ireland had his shot, imo the roster is greatly upgraded compared to even Saban's time here, we were in a black black hole in 07. Ireland had few high pick busts, he also found few high pick game changing players People may have forgotten the heady days of hoping Jason Allen would turn into a starting player, we had that situation for most of the 00's
Moore was also taken instead of Lance Briggs, if we just had to have a LB. Right after that draft, Frank Coyle was really ribbing me that Miami took a LB other than Briggs at that spot, telling me something like "your Dolphins passed on Briggs for a 5th round LB? What the heck was Wannstedt thinking?"
As bad as Ireland was, you are high on acid if you really believe that. Wanny's drafts involved an entirely separate level of suckitude.
Jamar fletcher over Brees has to be the worst draft pick in dolphin history given the opportunity cost, right? I'll never forget watching that draft and seeing a dolphin fan holding a sign that said "pick #26 is a Brees". Not when the stache is calling the shots. Back dated offensive thinking led to that pick and that mindset continued with parcels and Ireland. We need a forward thinking GM who understands that in this nfl - offense wins championships.
Jimmy graham wouldn't be jimmy graham without Drew Brees throwing him the ball. And Reggie Wayne is a great WR but his value doesn't compare to Brees IMHO. I agree Ireland is as bad if not worse than the stache but fletcher over Brees takes the cake IMHO.
