I love how people don't trust Ireland and love that he's fired...........but are buying all the leaking he's doing about Aponte on the way out the door via Salguero. Suckers born every minute.
Ireland did not get the chop. Get your facts straight He resigned With this crap I don't blame him ****ing Drama
This post is either a joke or a failed IQ test. Ireland was shown the door, whether it was technically a firing or a resignation that he was permitted to save face. If you can't grasp this, may the spirits protect you, you'll need it.
What if Ireland was a little ***** and never said anything to philbin about his coaching but would only talk behind his back. If that's the case then dawn should have said something. There are some fans that should just leave
This is straight from Darlington's twitter account today. Say what you want about Armando, he is not off base with his recent stuff. It just happens to be the "other side" of the story. I am by no means an Armando fan, but give him credit (as did Darlington). He knows more than about this than we thought. I personally am not a fan that this is 'out there', but the reporting is solid. Yes, he is still kind of flaky, but the stuff appears pretty genuine.
Exactly. Who on this site likes Armando? Not many, if any. But it's an insightful piece as to the dysfunction that's been going on in the front office. And a sign to clean house, in my opinion.
All Darlington did was confirm there was dysfunction which duh....with Ireland around that doesn't take a reporter....just common sense. Doesn't take away from that fact that all your hearing is Ireland's side as he walks out the door. We pretty much concluded Armando's been Ireland's puppet for a while now.
They did clean house. Philbin does not strike me as a gossiper or back biter. I hope he works closer with his staff next year. Disfunction between GM and Coaches exists in
Yeah, Darlington said "some" as in "The elimination of Ireland and Sherman quell some of dysfunctional equation." Notice he didn't say they quell all of the dysfunctional equation.
As Philbin's (former) boss, he does not necessarily need to say anything to his face. He has that right. Is it the most professional way to go about things? Maybe not, but he surely has that right to his opinion. There have been decisions made WAY above my paygrade that I thought was assinine. Doesn't mean that I need to know why those decisions were made. And quite frankly, Philbin probably needed his *** chewed for those poor performances the last two games. It is also Aponte's right to tell Philbin. Again, it may obfuscate the lines of professionalism, but if I heard something said about a colleague/co-worker who I genuinely liked as a friend, and it was potentially damaging to that person's potential employment? You are damned right I tell that person. It may not be the right thing to do, but let us all put ourselves in either position and we may have a better understanding of the dynamics of that environment.
Well, he is not really off base. Ireland did not get fired, per say. Ireland (per Darlington) appears to have had the opportunity to stay on staff (with the GM title?) but lose much of his GM powers. Hence, the 'mutual agreement' by both sides. Of course, Ross essentially let Ireland fire himself. So maybe, in a roundabout way, he did get fired.
Firing Ireland..... I'm fine with that.... Just hoping they did so knowing they have good options in mind. I don't exactly see it as addition by subtraction, and am willing to wager he controls a roster once more... But let's move on. My issue in all of this, is that joe philbin is being rewarded. After that locker room debacle, the epic choke job.... coaching issues coming to light..... he's gaining more control over the team? Do you think we're in good hands just because Ireland is gone ? This scenario is almost as awkward and unorganized as the harbaugh hunt. Seems we're kicking one problem aside, so the larger one can grow. New GM will be a glorified scout asked to list players that fit philbins so criteria.... ( Personalities not welcome ) Aponte will work the cap and handle the money. So after that embarrassment of a season, coach doesn't get fired, he gets rewarded ? Philbin: **** that incompetent no good white trash loser wannabe he ****ing sucks.... Just kidding, I'm not like those fans. * coughs "LB" * coughs
If Ross was going to strip him of his power over shaping the roster, a decision that was long overdue by the way, that basically means he was fired as GM.
Disagree with your first paragraph, agree with the second. If Ireland was Joes boss, it was his responsibility to do it to his face. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
It would have been nice, but we're talking Jeff Ireland. Look how Vontae Davis reacted when he was traded. Stuff happens behind the scenes without the knowledge of those down the food chain. In a work environment, people talk behind others' backs ALL of the time. I despise it, and try to steer myself away from the office gossip, but I am also guilty. It is the way of the workplace, construction yard or NFL front office.
How much do you want to bet that Jeff gets to control a roster again? With his reputation in the league, he may not even get another job in the NFL.
Doesn't matter whether he was shown the door or he left on his own, all semantics really. Bottom line is Ireland is now gone and the Dolphins are now a better team and organization because of it.
You may be right, KB, but you know that a sort of cronyism still lingers about the league. Personally, I could see him getting another GM position. Maybe not immediately, but in the next few years, I could absolutely see it happening.
The guy is universally hated in this league. He's already bitten the hand that fed him. The only reason he was a GM in the first place is because he buddied up to to Bill Parcells. Now, that relationship is fractured, much like most of the relationships he is involved with. He's not going to be able to call Daddy Parcells up and get him to recommend him for a job again. Really, the only team I think will be willing to bring him on board is Dallas, and he will never be a GM there.
I cannot agree that he is "universally hated". He may be (I am not privy to NFL circles). But via the media, he is building his CV, and could powder his accomplishments; along with this dysfunctional appearance of the franchise, one could reasonably argue his side of the story. He certainly has a strong personality, and could weasel his way into a GM position if an owner likes that type of thing. I mentioned Dallas last week as a potential franchise that could hire him. I agree, not as GM, but in a 'head of' scouting, player acquisitions? What's the saying? Everything is bigger in Texas? A big *** like Ireland should fit right in....
So, you think Jeff pushing his agenda through Armando is going to convince others in the league that he wasn't the problem in Miami?
Looking at it objectively, I think one could reasonably see both sides. The person doing the hiring will ultimately have to decide. And I think he could have another chance a few years down the road, especially IF Dallas hires him in some capacity and IF he does a solid job. The news of the NFL moves so fast that it will be front page for six seconds if he interviews until the next big story. Hell, the Manti T'eo story is so 2013, and that had more flavor than Jeff Ireland's hiccups. While this mutual agreement is big stuff to us, it was third page news to the NFL. I waited over twenty minutes when I got home yesterday to hear a mention of this on NFLN, and another fifteen for the Darlington interview. Potential employers might see he is not as a devisive personality in the public's eye as some here might think.
So if Aponte and Philbin wanted to take Ireland out how would you do it? Loose the last 2 games?????????
Those in the league know about him. There is a reason people like Jim Harbaugh and Jeff Fisher were not willing to work with him. As I said earlier, players hate him. Other GMs do not trust him. He has now strained the relationship he has had with Bill Parcells, Tony Sparano, and Joe Philbin.
I can see why players have a dislike for him. Jettisoning vets like they are used toilet paper. In the end, it is a business. Leslie Frazier, Jason Garrett, and Ron Rivera have all publicly supported Ireland. The sentiment among players should discourage others from signing in Miami (while the league is large, the fraternity of players is tight), and yet, there have been some high profile players who have signed with Miami under Ireland. Could you fill me in on the Parcells/Ireland strain? Not familiar with it. The other examples are no-brainers.
Link: HERE I know former players and some current players have anonymously said some things about Ireland. In the end, you, me, anyone on here, have to dissect what is said in the media. Maybe with the enthusiasm from a rook like Jordan, we can see that Ireland maybe turned the corner with his player relations? He obviously commanded some respect (GM or not) from his players by Hartline's comments. Why the respect if he is hated? You can come back with the fact that you do not crap on your dinner plate, but in the end, you have a plethora of personalities and a room full of rich young men playing a game with egos bigger than your father's Oldsmobile. You can't shut everyone's mouth, yet, there is a respect there. Yeah, they are in a tough position, but business is business. And not all players handle their business accordingly. Of course, you have Crowder and Rosenfels saying things. And they make valid points. My point in all of this is that, while there are some things publicly, there are some things we do not know about Ireland. Everyone acts differently around different people. The enthusiasm from Jordan is a great example. Then you have Rosenfels. Another great example. But Rosenfels' comments are less relevant than Jordan's. He is not on the team. Well, neither is Ireland, but at the time of those comments, he was. People change. For his sake, let's hope he has, or he may never get another opportunity as you opined.....
I don't get the thinking that when a player supports or doesn't support a certain guy, that it really means anything, at all. Most will be toting the company line and the ones that don't probably have an agenda. THEN, you have to figure out who has the agenda or not. It's not reliable, for me, to do that, but might be for the people that know them or have very good contacts, like some on here. Most interviewees........have no reason to be 'honest', if it might hurt their chances for future employment in the league, or even in certain circles in the league. IT's all a game within a game, IMO. Basically, I trust our fellow ThePhins posters, with contacts, more than anything I read or hear from the media.
I see this differently. I think because the praise wasn't close to unanimous, that shows how disliked he is. I'm willing to bet you go into a Seahawks locker room or a Pats locker room, and ask the same question about their GM you'll get less division then there was in our locker room. These guys know not to say anything. They know not to bite the hand, yet many of our guys just couldn't bring themselves to even give generic and non specific praise. That should tell us something.
Geez...Hes gone. Why even worry about whether he gets another job. Hell I.hope he does..one less franchise standing in the way.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if it takes Jeffrey a very long time, if ever again, to find a gig in the NFL. And it's for the same reason Tim Tebow can't find a spot on an NFL roster, even though he's had some degree of success despite being poorly qualified for the position he wants to play. It's because no team will take the circus that will come with it. What team will ever hire the "Was your mom a whore?" guy? And it doesn't matter how many of you on this board want to pretend like that was an ok question for Ireland to ask, it wasn't. And that's what he will forever be remembered for. His failures and that embarrassment.
Jeff Ireland will find another job in the NFL pretty quickly. He has friends in the NFL. He's tight with Schneider in Seattle and has been friends since childhood with Duke Tobin in Cincinnati. Ultimately he's not a bad scout or even director of scouting and I think he'll actually be viewed as a valuable asset to some teams. But woe be the team that takes another bite of the apple with him in charge. Actually I don't think that's going to happen period. I think he's gotten his taste of the limelight and he will very much appreciate being anonymous again and just being allowed to do what he loves which is scout players and not worry about the rest.
This. He is a pretty brash person, so he's not the type that will work well with anyone. But he is very good at some things, and if a team can fit him in the right position, he is very valuable. I think Dallas is a great fit, because Jerry Jones can be the GM everyone recognizes, while Jeff Ireland just does the GM work.
If you're a team that has trouble finding value in later round picks, Ireland could be a great asset IMO.
I didn't know it was possible for someone like Ireland to have friends. I guess I shouldn't be surprised if he catches on in another team's scouting department. I'll be shocked if he ever holds the title of GM in the NFL again.
