Tannehill might turn into an elite QB, or he might not. Right now, I think he is a good QB with upside potential.
However, I would still keep drafting QB's until I sure I had an elite QB.

Tony Sparano is enjoying a cigar somewhere right now, relishing the thought of Ireland getting his due after the 2010 courting of Jim Harbaugh.

I guess that is fair enough.

However personally I have no doubt Tannehil be be elite if he has a little help.

As much as I dislike Ireland, that Harbaugh situation is on Ross, not Ireland. And I'm glad that they tried to hire Harbaugh to replace Sparano, what a vertical move. How they did it was shady, but Ross is a businessman and that's on him. Ireland seemed to me, at least, to be caught up in that backwash. And as bad as Sparano was as a coach, he's lucky to have lasted down here for a few years and make all that money. He should smoke his own pole, not a cigar, as far as I'm concerned.

I just don't like her, plain and simple. it's not because she;s a women in a man;s profession, it's because she seemed to be such a jerk in the Tannehill rookie contract negotiations on Hard Knocks and what I've read about her during her tenure here.

Then add to that the infighting, snitching on Ireland, shadowing Philbin- to me those are all signs of a dysfunctional and unpleasant organization. And to that I say- clean house. Ireland, Philbin, Aponte, Sherman, Turner, Zac Taylor- get rid of them all, get that fart smell out of the building. Start fresh.

Do you really have to be a polarizing jerk to be a good NFL contract negotiator? I would think not. Playing hardball is one thing, but she was, imo, just a tool when shown negotiating the Tannehill deal on Hard Knocks. And of course they're going to go for juicy clips on that show, but her reputation precedes her. I just don't like her, plain and simple, for reasons already stated.

Your forgetting both games were not even close...to be in firm control to make the playoffs and then get blown out by teams that had no chance only indicts the coaches even further imo..

The games were not competitive..think about that bro.

The Jets game was for a while. After Tannehill missed Wallace when he was wide open by 2-3 yards for a sure TD, and after Milliner got away with blatantly fouling Wallace in the end zone and then got a pick on the next play, the flood gates opened. Had there rightfully been a flag thrown on Milliner, and we got the ball at the one, the entire game could have went different or at least been much closer.

As with everything in life, the truth is somewhere in the middle. I don't understand why this board is so divided on the GM vs Coaches fault. The logical conclusion is both Philbin & Irish were BOTH responsible for this embarrassing season. I don't know Aponte personally but she is creating a bad image for herself in a very similar fashion to Irish. Ross needs to absolutely clean house. Just fire them all and get yourself a unified FO and coaching staff. I'm sure there is some truth to these reports which makes me question the childish environment this organization is running. It's like the Keystone Cops!!!

Here's what I hope happens over the next few days. We find a new GM (Gamble) who by other reporters will have the personnel power which Aponte will get frustrated and take the job rumored to her with the NFL itself. This new GM will convince Ross that he can do better than Philbin, with Greg Roman or San Frans DC. This will be attractive to Ross because of his love of Harbaugh, and we will have new life on this team. My dream please come true.

I don't need Philbin gone. In fact, I'd prefer the stability of him remaining. I want a GM like Gamble and I want an OC that helps the offense and RT evolve. I think Philbin delegates much to the OC and if he had a great one, Philbin would function as the administrator/face of the franchise. I'd also like a new QB coach and OL coach.

If Philbin has learned from this season then fine, but as the head coach he needed to be on top of Sherman with playcalling and tendencies. I feel Philbin always gave Sherman the benefit of the doubt and didn't do his job which is to be the boss. I don't like micromanagers in my own but when people are doing something wrong thats called management. Philbin dropped the ball on this. If he's willing to let Sherman be his fall guy but didn't push him during the season, which we don't know, I'm not sure he's the right guy. I like Philbin to be honest but if we need to drop everyone to get a fresh start, I will take that right now. Fresh faces everywhere would be a good thing.

The way you approach things in the future with regards to Aponte would be you duly note that that is her personality. That she is willing to do that and you adjust to that. Believe me the new GM won't gloss over that fact.

I just saw that Sherman/Philbin relationship as dangerous. I think it's difficult to be objective about someone you self-declared was your mentor. I also don't like that Sherman's son-in-law and first cousin were brought in to be the QB coach and OL coach respectively. I want all that cleared out. I think Philbin has shown the ability to be very analytical with respect to what wins in the past, but I don't think he was doing that or would necessarily be able to do that going forward with respect to that familial group. I guess I'm willing to give Philbin the benefit of the doubt that he could go back to being that analytical guy once those entanglements are cleared out.

I think, Sherman & Family, were Philbin's training wheels.

Do you think the leaks about the Philbin/Aponte alliance and how/why Ireland was let go will affect the search for a new GM?

Lawd I sure hope you're wrong.

I hope Philbin knew all of the things that were wrong with Sherman's play calling and handling of the offense but didn't want to humiliate his long time friend.

I was going to interview as the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. It was looking really good for me. I was one of only a few candidates and the money was great. As i walk into the corporate office, the janitor told me that the VP was a power hungry snitch. No way i was going to work with that. I left without even interviewing.

Look at what actually happened though.

Philbin was brought in as a first time head coach into a VERY hostile environment a few months after his son died. Is it really all that crazy to want your mentor and successful former HC to be there till you get your legs under you?

Forget play calling for a sec, but if you consider the situation that was present when Philbin was hired and you consider that there is more facets to head coaching then offensive play calling, then it may seem a little bit less egregious and a little bit more understandable.

Unless Jeff told her that what he was saying was confidential she didn't "rat" him out. It's not like she was running to Ross. And, as Jeff is clearly mando's source, she didn't do it behind his back. If you have a coworker talking trash in public about you to other coworkers who are known to be your friends, would you call them rats for letting you know?
