    He certainly would.

I'm pro Philbin, but if we could get this guy in here I'd be excited.

Ross has been turned down in the past because he has refused to get rid of Jeff Ireland. Jeff has some strange hypnosis on Ross that makes him forget about how he made his billions of dollars and make bad decisions when it comes to his football team.

Well you've got a message board full of Hurricanes fans so it's not surprising to see a few who don't want to believe that FSU is as talented as they actually are. It's not like everybody they demolished was bad. Clemson is a good team.

Thats a good question. Last year we had holes all over the place. At OL, WR, CB, TE, no pass rushers other than Wake. No GM can fix all of that in one off season.

    No thanks.

@AKinkhabwala: Multiple Chargers tell me Bengals did NOTHING offensively that they hadn't prepared for. No tweaks, no surprises.

Going further, the Patriots went what without Tom Brady? 11-5? And just look at the Saints this year with Payton back, heading into round 2 of the playoffs.

Certainly I think great player/coach have symbiotic relationships, but there is absolutely a large and tangible aspect to coaching.
Not endorsing Gruden by any means, but maybe it was Lewis' directive to not do anything out of the ordinary? Hes what, 0-5 in the playoffs now with a reputation of being a bit bland?

I am not saying that this is absolutely the truth, but is there perhaps a school of thought that bringing in a new GM now might be more disruptive to scouting than doing it at some other point? I'm pretty sure I'm completely grasping at straws here, but I have to do something besides consider Ireland's job safe.

I think the Texans did something like that with Casserly a few years ago - kept him till just after the draft then let him go. But it was pretty well known that it was the plan for a good while beforehand iirc.

I think that's exactly what I was thinking of. I wouldn't necessarily hate seeing Ireland handle our draft since it's his scouting department developing our notes and then bringing in a new GM right before free agency.

Good points. Though Harbaugh got rid of Smith the first chance he got. As for Foles I want to see him do it for at least another year.

Its not really the topic of this thread. There is no reason to think FSU is somehow superior to Auburn. It could go either way, but I'd see Auburn running over FSU as more likely than the reverse.

Lol, whats your point? That he reports thing that don't happen sometimes? I mean seriously thats what you've got? You do realize that Parcells worked at ESPN and used the network and Atlanta to get the retirement padding contract with Miami? The deal with Atlanta was basically done and was reported by more than Mort, then we swooped in at the last minute and gave him the dumbest deal ever given to anyone in the history of sports so I don't put any of that on Mort at all and if you do I don't know what to say other than you really don't understand journalism or agents/athletes using reports to "leak" info, etc. It is what it is. Mort is a trusted journalist if you're standard for being a trusted journalist is that you are "never ever wrong or used by a source" then OK, no one is a trust journalist.

That alone should have gotten them all fired. It was apparent to even I that this OLine was a mess after the pre-season games.

I don't know, at this point I think the Phins front office thinks we can fill a few holes and make the playoffs next year and that fans will forgive and forget if that happens. I think Ireland has them snowed, I think Parcells left Ross with the impression that this is the team to go with in the front office and we are stuck with them until a complete meltdown season with 2-4 wins happens. Its getting to the point of the Lions sticking with Millen, he just had the front office so convinced he was going to turn them around and they were so enamored with him that it took a ton of losing seasons for them to admit it. We don't know whats going with the front office but it seems like they are just enamored with Ireland for whatever reason.

GMJohnson has actually suggested that we progressed because we collapsed to 7-9 in 2012 later than usual. He's going to use some weird logic to justify hims...er...Ireland keeping his job.

It would actually explain alot if GMJohnson was Teflon Jeff.
It would help explain why Ireland is so sh*tty at his job. He spends to much time on here making excuses for himself and not enough time GMing

And what, pray tell would lead you to believe Jeff Ireland can fix the offensive line? He's been trying for 6 years. And failed. Yet you would have him try again. See my sig about the definition of insanity.

The definition of insanity doesn't apply to this situation, the phrase means doing the exact same thing in the exact same way. No matter what we are talking about new players and circumstances.

The quote is more intended to mean...lets say...a silly example. I leave my toast in the toaster for 7 minutes and it is burnt to a crisp. I decide I want less burnt toast and put new bread in for the same length of time. Again and sgain.

Our situation is closer to "If at first you don't succeed, try again."

Our question is how many times do we let him try.

Yup. It's been a gradual process of emotional disengagement. It's not yet complete, but yeah, even some die hard fans are numbing out slowly.

It seems as though the curse that Mercury Morris paid a voodoo priestess to put on the Dolphins because he was pissed off at Shula, never got removed, even though Morris claimed he went back later and paid her to remove the curse.

Who negotiates for all of their employees' contracts in a highly competitive labor market to expire at the same time? Not to mention the plethora of players not worth resigning in the first place.
