Looks like Norv Turner might be looking for a job soon. Not done in Cleveland yet, but it doesn't look like he's going to be a part of that team soon. If he gets let go, would you take him in Miami?
Because...frankly, I'm concerned that that face of his is gonna slide down onto his chest and then flop around on the floor like some horrible, mutilated animal with stubble in a PC one day soon, and I don't want to be watching because it will freak my **** OUT and traumatize me, and I'll have to back to the place with the good drugs again.
Who are the oldest OCs in the league ? Not saying anyone is too old to coach, but I think we all realize play calling is a younger mans game. Could it be Sherman and Turner ?
Norv Turner? How about Gary Stevens while we are at it. Just kidding. On a more serious note, I'd consider Kevin Gilbride if he became available. Seriously.
Norv Turner has proven several times he sucks at HC, however as far as I remember he has been consistently one of the best at OC pretty much wherever he's been OC, so I don't see why not. If Philbin is retained could the two reconcile their philosophical differences? Might be reason enough to say no, are there better OC candidates out there that are proven and available? That would be my only two reasons not to be willing to bring Turner in, otherwise, why not? Yes he's one ugly dude, but if ugly turned around our offense, I'd be pretty darn happy with that.
Gilbride's system Note the bolded. We find ourselves with a terrible OLine and bad raining game. I think Gilbride's system meshes well with our needs, with our young QB, and with the type of receivers we've been training here. Hartline, Gibson and Matthew are already making these reads at the line. Wallace has been improving at it, imo, though he is not precise in his breaks and routes so sometimes the accuracy and connection are off. Overall we have the horses to run this QB friendly system and it's a hell of a lot better for Tannehill than Sherman's, imo. Further to that… Tannehill has already shown a great ability, imo, to make reads and call play changes at the line. This would take that to the next level. He is smart enough to run this system. To adapt to the talent you have, and the ability to develop a QB. Those are two things we need in-house right now. He's also a good teacher, and very aggressive in the passing game, which works in today's NFL. The thing that will frustrate people is that, like Sherman, he can get away from the run. Still, in terms of transitioning styles, I think Gilbride is an excellent fit for what Tannehill and this offense already do, and to take that to the next level.
That said… the caveat is that the Giants offense and Manning regressed severely this year. Whether you lay that at Gilbride's feet is the debate currently happening in NY. http://www.newsday.com/sports/footb...ffensive-coordinator-kevin-gilbride-1.6707478
im not sure why theres so much hate towards norv as an OC. he's a fantastic OC. He's a mediocre HC, but an OC you'd be hard pressed to find better.
This is a young mans game to play, not coach. Nothing beats experience. As close as Sherman and Philbin are, we'll we saw how that worked out. I'm not saying Norv is my choice, it's just a question I asked.
It's a wonder that Phil Rivers still has his sanity. Between dinosaurs Schottenheimer and Turner—and add in AJ Smith arrogantly letting all his homegrown talent walk year after year, no one could have blamed Rivers for going postal a long time ago. No thanks. Let the past stay in the past.
I'll add to that: Phil Rivers is twice the QB that Eli Manning is, yet Manning has won two SBs. Rivers has had the bad luck of being held back by Schottenheimer, who probably has stunk of decomp for the last 15 years; and Turner, who orchestrated the Offense that burned out Ricky Williams mentally and physically. That, and idiot-hubris guy Smith bringing on good talent, giving them just enough time to get in synch with Rivers, then letting them walk away for no compensation.
As of now, Tannehill doesn't belong in a vertically oriented offense so I don't see Turner being an appropriate choice.
