Why can franchise QB's...established franchise QB's...like Brady, Manning, and Rodgers for years be allowed to QB sneak but Tannehill can't??
Why the tilt toward Philbin, Rock? In his first NFL head coaching job, he hired the wrong OC, who thinks starting a game run-run-pass—with a horrible OL and a poor man's version of a running game—is just the height of brilliance. He hired a DC who doesn't seem to understand the strengths and weaknesses of his personnel—the most basic, 101 responsibility of his job. He installed inexperienced assistants to coach in areas they had never even coached before, however briefly. Also; I don't know how much of this is his fault and how much the blame spreads to Ireland, but—with a terrific, enthusiastic, talented and motivated group of 6-7 WRs (with various tremendous combinations of size and speed in TC, the team chose to go through the entire season with only four WRs on the 53. And, predictably, those who signed onto the PS were promptly poached, leaving no depth whatsoever on a team that often plays four WRs at once. And knowing how important a big, seam-busting TE would be to his scheme, he permitted Ireland to sign only one such guy, and it predictably became a steaming turd sandwich, served every day, all season long after Keller's knee got shredded. The Saints already had superstar Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston, who has played the position a lot—yet they signed Ben Watson as a free agent. Cincy already had Jermaine Gresham and drafted Tyler Eifert in the 1st round—and they STILL signed Alex Smith. Philly already had Brent Celek and they signed James Casey—and they STILL drafted Zack Ertz, investing a 2nd-round pick in the position. By the way, Philly carried 8 WRs this season; Cincy carried 7. And keeping Daniel Thomas over Reggie Bush; however much import Ireland had in that, did Philbin actually look at all of Thomas' game film and decide that was a good way to go? Because the average fan could see the iceberg a mile away; why didn't Philbin? Why didn't he pound the meeting table with his shoe like Nikita Khrushchev at this or ANY of the personnel decisions which would ultimately doom the season? How can Philbin be absolved in all this?
We choked. We lost. So...all you who predicted we would lose...do you feel better then me now cuz you were right, or are you just as pissed as me cuz we lost?
Is ANYTHING unacceptable to Ross? #FireThemAll Turning point: The umpteenth missed long TD to Wallace. Would have been up 14 and taken Jets out of their running game. Why can't we passrush crappy QBs??
I mean good head coaches don't grow on trees, people have no idea how few coaches who qualify to be a NFL head coach, why the hell do you think the Giants and Jets are holding on to theirs?
Awww...gratz..you bet against the Phins. Hugs...Im so happy for you. Celebrateeee at CKS house tonight....na na na nan naaaaaaa........
Philbin absolutely deserves blame, but you can't be firing coaches every two years. You have to have patience sometimes. He should get a 3rd year. If we don't improve next year, then you can fire him. Good to see you around.
I don't like how he talks down to players. Like he's above everyone else. Jeff Ireland on the sideline? And where's the proof he is a "helluva coach"?
All valid points. This team needs change and it has to start at the top. Philbin, Ireland, Sherman ALL must go. OL can't run block, can't pass block. LB's are slow and poor tacklers. DB's have speed but can't cover even the worse receivers in the league. Offensive playcalling is the worst in the league. Where the hell was Clay on 3rd down? Allowing Geewhiz Smith to beat you is disgraceful. Tannehill is mediocre at best. Time and time again this year when they've been down, I see him standing on the sideline laughing and joking it up. Get f-ing serious! I can't count the number of times he has underthrown a wide open Wallace downfield. People want to keep blaming Wallace, but he made a lot of underneath grabs this year and was open virtually EVERY time on the deep route. Only twice can I remember him not being underthrown. Last week, overthrown by 5 yards and this week overthrown by 5 yards. Tannehill does not know how to throw the deep ball. The running game is pitiful. Today was the only time I've seen Miller run hard. I don't want to hear about his lone 100 yard game. It was all predicated off one long run. But in his defense, you'd have to be a mouse to run through the holes this 0-line provides. Another wasted season. We've all seen $hit teams come from the bottom to the top since we last were relevant. Still, the Dolphins continue in mediocrity. This is disgraceful. One more thing. Present company excluded, the Miami fans suck. Every home game is chock full of the opponents fans. Opponent scores, you hear loud cheers. Opponent makes defensive stop, you hear loud cheers. You can see it in the stands. I don't know of ANY other franchise in professional sports where this happens. There is NO home field advantage for this club. Time to go throw up as 4 of the teams we beat go to the playoffs.
I dunno. I watched Miracle the other day...and you know what....Herb Brooks was a coach. He motivated players to play above themselves. I dont see much motivation coming from Philbin.
He should be given 3rd year, I still think he has the makings of a decent coach, but he needs to surround himself with better personal.
Ireland is the real issue. The offensive line he assembled was one of the worst I'd ever seen. And those linebacker swap was a complete failure.
I would have liked to see Wallace lay out for that like other WR's would, it was over thrown yes, but could have been caught.
What was he in Denver? The man knows offenses, I'd rather keep Philbin and bring in Shanahan as OC if no one hires him as a HC, but the man knows offenses and he knows how to build GREAT running games.
No, you can continue to feel superior to all of us hacks who want change in a team that has posted 7-9, 6-10, 7-9, 7-9, and now 8-8 in five years. Seriously, this again? Not firing a bad employee who underperforms because you fear that you can't do any better with the next hire? Applied to "real life," that's the textbook definition of battered spouse syndrome. Are we really this beaten-down as a fan base?
RT sliding too early on the 3rd and 10+, along with the failure to convert the ensuing 4th and less than a yard sums up this team & coaching staff. That was the game.
I agree completely. He needs to improve as well but he should absolutely get another year. If we fail, then I'll jump on the bandwagon. But I'm sticking by him right now.
I'm not placing the blame entirely on the defense. Both units performed like garbage today and lost this game for us IMO. It was a spectacularly awful performance on both sides of the ball to seal this epic collapse.
I have a very hard time buying that when you've just been manhandled by two teams with nothing to play for and your playoff shot on the line. Mind you, I wouldn't retain Ireland either. But if there was a worse coaching job than the one we did in the last two weeks, I haven't seen it. That was beyond stupid. It was criminally bad.
It's just proof that the entire regime needs to be flushed. There's talk that Philbin should get extra time—nonsense. He's part and parcel of the mess now.
Are you kidding? You think I want to continue being 8 and 8. Just because...I believe in the team during the season....and dont cry awwww weee suckkkkkkkkkkkkk........fire everyone....bwahhhhhh....after every loss..doesnt mean I dont want change.
