That team had an elite defense, and the top RB in the league. They also led by 11 at NE with 5 minutes to go.

You cannot compare those losses to a loss against the Jets on Sunday. It wouldn't be anywhere near the worst loss in Phins regular season history. Not even close.

That Patriot Loss was on the road to the Defending Super Bowl Champions. This one is at home vs. a pile of feces wearing green uniforms. Of course, this one would be worse.

That is one of the losses that still hurts to this day. The franchise's tailspin started with that loss, took me months to get over that game

When ****face Olindo Mare kicked the OT kick out of bounds, I walked away.. I didn't watch the NE drive in overtime..

I was beyond upset for weeks.

How about Chris Carter dropping a TD in the end zone against Minnesota? Or us beating Denver on the road only to find out Fiedler was injured.. Best part was that half of the forums were thrilled that Ray Lucas was taking over... I mean his arm was so much better than Fiedler's, wasn't it?

Not even close. Patriots looked like flukes that year. Not many people would have guessed that they would turn into a dynasty at that point. Still the worst team to have ever won a Super Bowl.

Jets loss would hurt a little. The Patriots loss stung so hard I almost quit watching football.

Ask yourself, if we lost to the Jets, how bad will it feel? As bad as when the Jets beat us at home with a FG to knock us out of the playoffs? As bad as the NE game in 2002?
As bad as the Indy game when we held the ball 45 minutes and still lost?

A loss to NY is almost expected. This team doesn't excel at anything like those earlier teams did. We are mediocre across the board and I expect a mediocre outcome come Sunday. Win or lose I won't be grieving for a month. Maybe a half hour.

How was any of us to know that Ray Lucas would turn out to be the worst thing ever and almost single handedly lose the Bills game? I do hate blaming a loss on one player, however that game was as close as any one player can come to losing a game for a team.

I also did have an irrational hatred for Fielder. He just seemed so bad. I liked his heart, however he couldn't throw a deep out and he loved throwing interceptions for touchdowns. It is so sad to me that after Marino, Fielder has been the most successful Dolphins quarterback. Yes Pennington had that one good year, however Fielder had multiple decent to mediocre years and if he wasn't made of glass would have taken the Dolphins to the playoffs multiple times.

Exactly. I don't have visions of Superbowl dancing in my head. While any given Sunday does exist and if Miami makes it they have a shot at winning the Superbowl like anyone else, I would consider them winning this year a miracle and would remove the 2001 Patriots as the worst team to have ever won a Super Bowl.

'02 is way worse, imo, because it was a spectacular underachievement. Losing to the Jets Sunday and finishing 8-8 is right about where the team should be. 9-7 and the playoffs is a bonus this year.

02 team was the best team in the AFC, and the fact the Cleveland Browns made it was a joke.

That being said, this is a home game against a team that blew their emotional wad the prior week and frankly isn't even as good as their record IMO.

This loss would trump the NE game IMO.

We`re favored actually and rightfully so. I don't want to hear the nonsense about the Jets are playing with passion now to save Rex`s job either. That tells me Rex did a horrible job of coaching this year since he couldn't get them motivated any other way during the season. And to hear the Jets players saying they`re going to play hard to end our season is a joke, why didn't they play hard weeks ago to try and get a playoff spot themselves? You mean to tell me that knocking us out of the playoffs is more important to them then getting in themselves ?? Total joke if anyone actually buys into that nonsense. If that team was capable of rising to the occasion based on motivation and overall talent they would be playing Sunday for a playoff spot or better seeding rather then trying to ruin our season. I don't fear them at all.

The Jets would have a decent chance at home. No way they win at Miami. Road teams typically play very poorly during Week 17. Especially those with nothing to play for

The Jets are going to get their asses kicked, period. Their DL is nowhere near as good as Buffalos, nor will they be at home in windy, rainy, freezing weather. We ain't the Browns or the Raiders, either. We match up well with them, as evidenced by the throttling we put on them a few weeks ago.

I don't expect another complete thrashing but to predict a loss? Lol I look forward to talking with you after the game.

I'll be the first in line to say I was wrong about the game if it turns out as you predict.

It's just amazing people talk such trash about a 7-8 team that played all the same teams we did, while we are 8-7.

Because they have the 5th lowest point differential, have the lowest turnover differential, and are the worst passing team in the NFL. They absolutely suck.

I'm with Dupree. The 02 Pats team missed the playoffs after winning the Super Bowl thanks to the tuck rule and the refs not calling defensive holding on the Pats DBs. I was catatonic for a few days after those two losses. We lead the league in sacks and rushing yardage and still missed the playoffs.

If we missed the playoffs this year, it would sting, but not like in 02.

No, I think most saw that game as a tough game. Many on here were worried. Personally, I saw it as a loss. They match up perfectly with us, and really are not that bad of a team. The passing offense is what sets them back. Plus, we were on the road.

The Jets, however, absolutely suck. I expect a blow out, and will be disappointed if we don't pull that off. This shouldn't be a game heading into the 4th quarter.

Of course they are different. Ever heard of the straw that broke the camels back? At some point..when it happens over and over again..fans begin to assume...eh...same old same old. You see it now. Hoe many times have we heard..same old Dolphins. There has to be a shift..there has to be...something..that changes the perpetual direction of this team. So please don't tell me ...this isn't any different. Its alot different. This team has to answer. Has to.

I think that's BS. The worries fans had were more along the lines of Thad Lewis having some indescribable magic to beat the Dolphins, or the "Dolphins always disappoint" people. Very, very few people entertained REAL reasons the Dolphins may lose to Buffalo heading into EITHER game.

I agree with you there. 8 wins vs 7 wins is a razor thin margin. For me it has more to do with how we match up with them individually.

Absolutely. I agree wholeheartedly. What's interesting is your line of reasoning functions more as a reason the Jets might win against a heavily favored Dolphins, than as a reason the Dolphins might win.

I just find it odd that there are almost no fans seriously entertaining any rational reasons the Dolphns might lose this game. The ones that are worried are not beyond the battered spouse level of rationale.

This is a 7-8 team playing well lately, with nothing to lose, playing against a 8-7 team that played horrible football in their last outing and have everything to lose...and nobody is even entertaining rational reasons the Jets could win.

That strikes me as a fan base that just wants the win that badly that they don't even want to think about the idea of not winning.

No, it's not BS. The Bills lead the league in sacks, and we gave up the most sacks. We also played them once before and literally lost the game because of a sack. They abused our line that game. Factor in the weather and playing on the road, and everyone had a right to worry. We shouldn't have lost that bad but a loss was probably the most realistic outcome.

As far as the Jets go, this game is at home with much better weather. They absolutely suck. They don't generate the pressure the Bills do. In fact, the last time we played their pass rush wasn't very impressive.

Those were worries before the game. I read posters on here who had the same worries. On the road with the weather the way it was. Against a line that generated the pressure it does vs our line which has given up the most sacks in the NFL. The worry was there and for good reason. Like I said, I personally predicted we were going to lose.

You're taking my statement and sentiment incorrectly. It was meant as a detractor to your expectation of a loss. I full well realize we have about a 70% chance of winning this game, which means yes...we could possibly lose...but you won't find me in the 30% club with you.

-You see this team doesn't just miss out on the playoffs...

-This team doesn't just lose to a Jets team it is supposed to beat with ease...
    -
This team loses to a Jets team and watches Baltimore lose and San Diego win.

-This team gets beat on a last second field goal after Phillip Wheeler gets called for pass interferance on 4th and 18.

-This is the team that Bilal Powell rushes for 200 yards against and has a career day.

-This is the team where Geno Smith finally shows signs of being a good Quarterback against.

-This is Rex Ryans final shout out to the NFL...

Could some of you!!!!!!!!!PLease stop with the mothereffing predictions!!! I don't want to hear anymore of these corn ball, cheese toaster, pre game superstitions you clowns have. "I got laid dude...That means we are gonna win bro...fist bump dude".....
If we lose this game...WHICH I EXPECT...I don't even!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm serious...like so serious....We better not lose this goddamn game! This has been yet another stressfull season as a Dolphin fan and losing Sunday will be a major breaking point for me. One that I have not ever really come to in my 26 year tenure as a Miami Dolphin fan. One thing about the NFL is there is always the chance of a quick turnaround and that is why I like it so much. However....Miami Dolphin football has not changed all that much since I have been watching it. We may possibly be a snakebit organization and I don't know why that is. If we give this game away on Sunday it's going to be very hard to get over it until the season ends. If we aren't playing in the wild card game next week i'm going to be very upset about that. This team has more than enough talent to be a playoff team. We have proven that by beating some pretty decent teams this year. Lets finish the Jets and Rex Ryan and hope the Ravens lose and the Chargers win and get to the playoffs.

I think we'll win but I'm surely not guaranteeing it like some of you are. The Jets suck but this is still a huge rivalry and a divisional game where anything can happen. They WILL be motivated too.

Keep in mind, with the exception of Buffalo, we have played very good December football, but Ryan Tannehill and this young team have never been in THIS position before. A position of needing to win to make the playoffs, or losing and ending the season.

We will learn a lot about this team Sunday. If we are going to really take that next step, we need to prove that we can handle the moment. I do believe we will be ready and I believe in this team, so let's get it done.

We're talking about miami against the jets on sunday........ Why are people weighing the Buffalo game more than the first NYJ game? Makes ZERO sense. I don't care if the jets just won 100-0 and we just lost 100-0 it's a new week against a team that we have previously curb stomped and have a new game to plan for. The players take it one game at a time and focus on their opponent week by week for a reason...... But fans are worried about the JETS because of what happened IN BUFFALO?

    ...and WE'RE irrational?

In another day or two, I would have probably written the exact same post...the anger from last sunday has not left my system yet. You are right, I want to see how this team responds to last week and the importance of this game. Play well, Make plays, Give great effort, and let the chips fall where they may. Our leaders need to step up and make big plays in big spots. You are dead on that we will learn a lot about this team and players.
