When did Ireland ignore the offensive line. Why do you guys keep saying this crap. Remember Incognito/Martin....was Ireland supposed to know this was going to happen during free agency and last years draft. Who should we cut to make room for new lineman and where would you have gotten them from per NFL rules. please enlighten us. No GM from any team could have prevented this from occurring, not in the span of 3 or 4 games. The fact that we didn't loose every game since this happened is testimony to the talent on this team. Today we were out schemed and out coached.
When anyone refers to wins and losses they are owned by the Head coach, not the GM. Many reasons for that like scheme and play calling. Somethings Ireland has no control over
How does this matter? The line was arguably playing worse with those 2 in there. Supposing the scandal never happened, the line was still a monumental fiasco and that's on Ireland.
And next you'll be telling me Ireland was supposed to know Jerry can't stay away of the Golden Corral buffet
I get it....truce WE suck It's Ross's fault ultimately, because as we all know....he hired Ireland, who hired, the players and coaching staff, water boy, cheerleaders, etc I am taking donations to run a full page ad NEW OWNER WANTED maybe we can keep the cheerleaders
He should have known Jerry has a major tendency to carry too much weight. It's part of scouting, and it's not like Jerry was some lean mean blocking machine in college that changed only after getting drafted.
Today's coaching was bad, but Ireland had a terrible off season that's holding this team back. I appreciate the talent he's brought here but last off season should have him fired.
Yes they should have. We should have also known Jerry was lazy , fat and overaged. When we did know he was all of that AND lousy we could have reacted . We didn't.
If you mean why Miami has a better record this year than last year, I think you can attribute that to Ryan Tannehill's development and ability to win despite all the other things going on with the team (i.e. coaching staff, bad O-line, no running-game, etc.). Having an 8-8 or 9-7 record isn't really, up from 9-7, anything to be proud of in today's NFL. If you meant something else, then disregard.
Jerry is serviceable. You replace him when it's convenient, as opposed to a total scrub who needs to be replaced immediately.
I thought in training camp this was an issue that was actually addressed. Some players fail, it's the luck of the draw. We also saw Vonte and how out there he was, got to call his grandma and other things that were a rare inside look at the Phins. I for one appreciated Ireland even more because I realized he was orchestrating or trying to orchestrate what amounted to a soap opera. The Man is ultimately responsible, but others are also expected to act like professionals, John Jerry being one of them. As far as I am concerned I am glad he is gone on on his way out. We need professionals to be professional and it seems as if that is harder and harder to come by. These kids coming out of college expect to have it all handed to them, not want to work for it and get paid hundreds of millions to do it. How much blame or fault is placed at Ireland's feet seems as if it will always be debated. I for one blame others for not doing their part. But it does not surprise me with today's society being where it is, it's always someone else's fault.
I don't really think this roster is all that talented. You've got one good corner on a one year deal, on the wrong side of 30 and potentially injury prone in the wake of a Achilles tear. You've got four really good DLs, two of which are free agents this off season. You've got a vastly overpaid safety, and another that is solid but a free agent. The linebackers are borderline disaster. The OL has one guy on it. Just one. Counting the backups. You've got half of a backfield and probably not even the good half. Solid but unspectacular receivers unit. Solid but unspectacular tight end. All of that surrounds a QB with Romo-like tendencies, both good and bad. That's not a real good roster.
What ever we thought about our Roster, or Ireland or Philbin, or coaching staff....following today's debacle is totally out the window.
Better pass rush, better secondary, better TO margin? I think people are forgetting how we struggled to do much of anything for long stretches of last year.
You should never have a total scrub for more than a game or two , you go PS shopping plain and simple. The line was ATROCIOUS today , or you think not? In a game where a win propelled you to 9 and 6 and makes playoffs (FINALLY ) likely , you think it is ok to have a line that was utterly pathetic? I don't.
My only complaint with the staff is where are the screens and draws, a reverse, fake reverse, a deep ball or two early in the game. It's like they were over confident and figured their plan would work eventually.
LOL not a good roster is the beginning of our problems. You surround all that with an OC that can't call plays and a Defense that can't stop the run and plays prevent all game and you get the 22nd ranked rush D and the most sacked QB ever playing for the 24th ranked offense. Then again, there are lies, damn lies, and statistics.
If you say so. I think they are what they are, which is a middle of the road at best roster that could just as easily go 7-9 as 9-7, and that will not seriously compete for a championship no matter what breaks they catch that give them the opportunity. And the thing that disturbs me is that given the nature of some of the assets, the expirations of certain contracts and the diminishing cap room (both long term and short), I think there's a strong possibility the roster gets worse as soon as a year from now.
Its the same OL we had vs NE, Pitt, NY, etc. The difference is that Buffalo has a MUCH better pass rush than any of those teams and today they had aggressive CBs sitting on our receivers behind it. The solution was to grind out some yards on the ground to slow them down and take shots down the field to soften up the secondary, we trie to do both and we failed. Credit the Bills for playing a great game on defense. They kicked our asses.
Yea, I definitely don't agree. With the position we're in, I think we'll be fine, both financially and through the roster. But I think from now it's evident we need more Brent Grimes/Dustin Keller signings. One year deals rather than long term deals.
For 3 games we were passable? OK , let's bank on that. Not that we lost , but how we lost and thoroughly beaten we were . DOMINATED. But all systems go , we are juuuuuuuust one more off season away.
I don't concern myself with other team's evaluations. Spotting an OL who has a tendency to be overweight is one of the easiest things to ascertain when scouting them.
Not sure what your point is but I don't think today's game says any more about our long term future than any other single game.
Really? Why is that? That we had a pressure game and totally were not prepared and exposed and dominated doesn't sound any alarms? You or I may disagree whether the prime reason was coaching , players dedication , the GM , Buffalo's talent , but that effort and result says to me we haven't done things right or as right as we should. However we should just continue , because NEXT YEAR we will solve it. That was as bad a game as we've had for a long long time , and lots of troubling aspects were revealed imo.
Man the more I think about it the more I get discouraged. All the money on jersey's, tickets, trips, etc. I am 44 yrs old and the last time the Dolphins won the super-bowl I was 3. After todays game it seems like it may be a long time before we have any chance in the future. Like a nut I keep hoping........maybe next year
So PIT wasnt a pressure game? NE wasnt a pressure game? It took wins to get us to this position....and yes, we soiled the sheets today....but we are 6th seed in playoff race with one week remaining. Could be a whole lot worse spot!
