Wheeler got positive overall ratings from PFF for Indy, Balt, Buffalo, SD, Carolina, Jets. Negative ratings for all the other games.
Two throws that especially impressed me were the ones to Matthews and Thigpen on the last TD drive, because the pocket was extremely condensed. He had no room to follow through and had to just arm the ball out there, not being able to use ideal throwing mechanics. Still able to be extremely accurate. On the Thigpen TD, Tannehill's hand hit McKinnie's shoulder pad after releasing the ball.
Or, still adapting to the scheme and not yet comfortable, like Ellerbe said he was. Wheeler as per PFF was a +9.8 overall last season in Oakland. In 2011, he was +6.7. 2010 was -2.1, 2009 was -0.9, 2008, his rookie year he was -3.9 in very limited snaps.
Does anyone know why we extended Misi? It's a rarity for him to see the field for even half the snaps.
there was no ray really, he played 6 games and just came back for the PO's, thats why ellerbe cashed in, he was the MLB of a super bowl defense for most of the year
I feel the same way about Ellerbe as you do about Wheeler. I honestly have no clue what Ellerbe is doing sometimes. He's just running around.
I wish I liked him more, because I really want to, but his play has disappointed me.I find him a majority of the times taking bad angles or being blocked. I still have hope that he feels more comfortable and becomes a bigger part of our defense. Just haven't seen it yet.
He's better in zone coverage with his eyes to the QB. He doesn't have the coverage instincts to run with his back to the ball and locate it again. Evidenced by the TD he allowed last week. He turns and its an easy pick.
Maybe the GM wants him to get played more than the coaches do? Not sure. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Maybe the GM stays up all night secretly plotting the demise of this franchise while snacking on fetuses? Hard to tell one way or another. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
I am the guy he is talking about screaming at Crowder. There is always one player we focus on and Crowder was my guy. I truly had a strong dislike for him and his game. Wheeler and Ellerbe show me the same glimpses I saw when watching Crowder. Ellerbe gets caught up getting locked onto a blocker and gets run 7 yards up the field. Wheeler always seems to get sealed off and just watches the guy run by him. Hate when they quote number of tackles as having a good game. if those tackles are taking place by your LBs and they are always way up field...is that good? We were so spoiled watching Offerdahl and Zach Thomas for so many years. So many tackles and plays at the line of scrimmage and always shooting through the right hole. Its a high standard to try and live up to
Anyone who has the game DVRed...watch the 3rd down play at the end of the game...the one where Ellerbe breaks up the pass by the goaline. Watch what he does at the snap of the ball and tell me how close he comes to just letting that guy run right past him. At the snap he bolts for the flat running next to his fellow LB then sees his mistake and cut back inside to just get to the guy in time(some say a little early) I watched that play over and over and still cant figure out why his first move was to go outside and give the TE the middle?
Does Wheeler not know to at least stick his arms up in the air if you're not going to look for the ball. All he had to do was raise his arms...I don't know if it's the 3-4 scheme or just crappy LBs but it takes a DE, DT or a SS or FS to make a tackle for a loss or minimum gain. Wish we still had Burnett.
One of Ireland's great UFA signings. He could have resigned Goodman and Hill for less than Wilson cost, and the team would have been better off by a long shot.
he's got to get better at his reads, he's got to spend as much time as possible in the film room, he's got to get better upstairs, because I think athletically your seeing everything there is to see.
Interesting to me that Jelani Jenkins played a lot in the second half, I think it was 28 snaps, in replacement of Wheeler..I approve of that change. Though I like Wheeler more than most, I just believe he is more of a blitzer than a good all around linebacker, Jenkins athleticism is outstanding and would like to see him play more
Watched the replay again, I know its been mentioned before but...Every single run was go-go, every single pass was go....EVERY SINGLE PLAY. This has been debated before, i just find it so odd. I recall the Dolphins mixed it up a few weeks ago but seem to be right back to it. Not jumping in on the debate but, do all teams do this?
Not sure but I don't think it matters. Defense is mostly going on ball movement and I'm not sure there is enough time at the snap to process the info and react to it.
I would agree with you. Just never got a pattern like that when I watch other games. Watching the replay enhanced the notion to me
my guess is they probably use it waiting to see in photos on the sidelines if the other team is biting. then switch it. That's probably why they switched it against the steelers, with palamalu being a gambler, it was probably an easy switch up. The Pats are too disciplined, so they kept it the same, who knows what will happen against buffalo. I do know that when I watch as soon as the ball is snapped I know if it's a run or a pass because of it, I'm just not sure it makes as big of a deal when on the field. I'm sure other teams do something similar to this. Manning always yells Omaha, Flacco is always yelling Alaska, I'm just not sure if it has something to do with the play call because I don't watch enough of their games.
Hes terrible in zone too. I have seen him at least 8-10 times getting EASILY thrown out of a zone from a qb looking him off, pump faking, or the RB/WR/TE straight juking him out of his shoes. He has terrible awareness, no instincts, and makes no game changing plays. Worthless.
