Dont even get me going on how the refs gave them yet another gift. Total BS P.I. call in the end zone for the Pats. No time outs and needing a TD. Pass was incomplete, refs to the rescue. Its getting sickening.
How so? the last play had a forward pass prior to getting to Brown so it would not have counted anyways... The Dolphins earned this win… don try to cheapen it...
Okay, to clarify: 1) I think Miami's offense played very well today. I was particularly impressed with Tannehill, Thomas, and Clay. 2) I think the run defense, other than the first drive of the game, was pretty good. I think Pittsburgh had like 73 yards rushing. 3) Miami deserved to win the game based on their performance but... 4) They got extremely lucky as that last play came down to Brown stepping out of bounds. If he didn't, it was going to come down to a review to find that Roethlisberger did indeed lateral it forward (I think he did for the record). I don't think Brown's stepping out of bounds was due to Chris Clemons being near him. 5) That last play is inexcusable because you had players loafing back to get setup, missing tackles, and it was the second time in the game that something like this happened. 6) With better clock management at the end of the first half, Miami probably gives themselves a better chance at a much shorter field goal if not a touchdown and thus would not have been in that position.
1 , 2 , 3 and 6 are spot on . Think the other two are not really all that pertinent. We played a tough team on the road in tough conditions and made plays when it mattered , showed resolve and bottom line , got a HUGE win. Sure we could have improved on some aspects but overall a very very rewarding win. May be a major step for this team .
So he is an Austrian sociopath. I hate him, and it's nothing to do with his political affiliation or time as Governor.
I think you're reaching at ways to hold on to your original comment. Missed tackles whatever, they still had the lead and brown didn't run out of bounds on his own.
Agree with this. The lack of hustle on that play, because they thought it was all over, will never happen again I'd hope.
So, really, how terrified was everyone on that last play? How many had already hit depression as Brown crossed the goal line? LOL. Wow. Dodging a bullet. But, sometimes you just have to get that luck to win games. The Patriots seem to get it every week, so why not us?
As I said, to each their own. I think if Miami played the end of the first half scenario better, this wouldn't even matter.
sure. If they'd had taken care of every scoring opportunity they'd have blown them out. Not really unusual nor luck.
You made salient points , just think the focus should be on the positives , but that last series before the half was awful. Could have turned out to be really a major fack up . Really hated that sequence and was pointing that out in the chat before and as it was unfolding. Hope the coaching staff learns from that.
I had 0 faith they would win today. Throughout the game I had 0 faith. Today the team brought me back. I'm not fully in, but I'm cautiously optimistic. We scored over 30 points which was a big one to climb for me.
leaving heinz field now. drove 5 hrs to get here. high fived every fish fan on the way out. simply awesome feeling.
Remember that a first down doesnt guarantee a score at all, and we werent even guaranteed the first. I didnt like the call but I can pretend I know we would have capitalized.
I was terrified. Almost shat myself. That would have been the ultimate let down...ever. Especially after such jubilation in last 2 minutes
Well you mean if he didn't step out of bounds and the illegal lateral didn't happen? Which both did . How we didn't take an aggressive approach at the 10 yard line , how we screwed the last series before the half and how we didn't manage the last series properly. Understand the points but in virtually all games we could point to a few ifs and buts. Just think we need to dwell on the positives today more than the things that didn't go so well.
You mean not taking a time out before the block? There was no reason to, also if he does the block never happens because it changes the entire chain of events. If that isnt what you mean, I'll need you to explain further because those are the two major gripes I recall.
You call a time out there and risk Pittsburgh gathering up the gumption of actually going for it on fourth down, but that's my opinion. More questionable were the offensive calls outside of field goal range before they trotted Sturgis out for a 50 pluser in the snow.
That is my complaint for the end of the first half , imo they needed to think it was 4 down territory and make the play call on third down with that in mind .
On the other hand, the forward pass by Big Ben should have nullified the play anyway....it all evens out. It was our day. This team fought toughly and pulled out a W and that's all that counts...next year, when we look at the record, it'll still be a W...
1. They played very well considering the conditions. 2. I would agree. The rush defense was pretty solid overall in most situations. 3. Agreed with this. 4. It would have been a huge blackeye had we lost on this play. I think Philbin should have called the TO when it looked like Pittsburgh would get the snap off (with three seconds left, I think you could say that they would get the snap off no problem). The defense was simply out of position to start the play. 5. I agree. Very inexcusable but I think I'd place the blame on the elements and Philbin for this, based on my reasoning above. 6. I disagree. I think the clock management was fine (not right OR wrong is what I mean). 40-50 seconds is enough time to drive quickly for a score with three time outs. My guess is that they didn't want to leave enough time for Pittsburgh to score had they gone three and out in that situation. You can't tell me that we would have blocked the punt had we taken the time out earlier either. It doesn't work like that in football.
Oh, thought we'd take this one IMO one of the problems is our team tries to out think opponents instead of just beating the **** out of them.
