He passed up an extra year and at least 8 million more dollars. Sure he's getting more per year from the Sox but the length of the contract is the big deal considering he has a hip degenerative condition and will be 35 when this new contract ends. I'd say it was a pretty telling sign that he wanted to stay in Boston by giving them a hometown discount.

Most athletes only pretend to be concerned about winning and legacy. I'm sure athletes do value those things to certain extents, but it's almost always a secondary to money. Another thing to consider is that athletes are notoriously poor self evaluators. Lebatard talks often about how Alex Rodriguez thought he'd be enough to make Texas good, and how that's a common "affliction" for athletes. It's entirely possible that Cano thinks he's going to do plenty of winning and Seattle. And who's to say he's wrong?
Assuming he wants to play beyond two years. I assume he does like Boston, but I still don't think its a genuine discount for The Red Sox, considering the valuation per year is better and only one year difference.

Any team is going to have to pay more per year if they want the contract to be shorter. I've said it numerous times with all the TV money teams are getting now we have to stop ignoring AAV abd focus more on the contract length. 24 million per year for Cano isn't crazy, giving him 10 years is, for example.

Not if you watched him pitch last year. Really sad, the guy was a great pitcher unfortunately he seemingly lost his stuff overnight. He's probably a HOFer in the long run.

Rings are meaningless in baseball and aren't as important as they are in other sports. I mean Ramiro Mendoza has what 4 or 5 of them? Is he a HOFer? It's not Halladay's fault he never reached the WS, hell he only pitched in the playoffs in 2 seasons, and pitched pretty well in a SSS (even a no hitter in his first ever start to boot, extra credit). Again W/L are meaningless too, although like you mentioned the voters still look at that, especially when he was in the AL East basically his whole career on bad Jay teams having to pitch against the Sox and Yankee line ups 7 or 8 times a season. From 2002 to 2011 there probably wasn't a better pitcher in baseball pitching in the toughest division and pitching at an elite level for over 10 years while pitching a ton of innings, so yes I do think he's a HOFer.
Mendoza never had a defined role, it doesn't make sense to compare him to RH here... you are mistaking your own opinion with what the writers think....they however love the meaningless stats....
Ok if you don't like the Mendoza comparison how about David Wells, David Cone or Orlando Hernandez then. Bottom line is rings are meaningless in baseball. If Derek Jeter or Rivera had 0 rings they would be HOFers anyway. Regardless he does have over 200 wins while pitching in tough divisions and was dominate for 10 plus years while pitching a lot of innings and complete games. He might not have the sexy 300 wins or rings (again not his fault). He does have multiple Cy young awards, ASG appearances etc. If you don't think Halladay is a HOFer, name another pitcher(s) that started his career after 2000 that has a better case than Halladay does. I do think Halladay gets in, maybe not 1st ballot but he will get in.
Hernandez doesn't have a shot he started playing MLB in his 30's....I dont think Cone deserves it either...I have a very strict standard of who should be in....alot of the old timers that are in there is garbage...their numbers are HoF worthy.... Boomer yes he should be in on the mere accord of being wasted getting into a fight in a diner at 4am..... again the writers that vote love the meaningless stat, until the landscape of that changes I dont see it...
There are at least 10 HOF pitchers (not including RPers obviously) with less career wins than Halladay already in the HOF. You're simply looking at 1 single stat as reason why Halladay won't get in.
No I am playing devils advocate....For example, you hear alot about how Mussina doesn't have a shot, if he doesn't have a shot, then either does Halladay and Moose's numbers are just as good and in some cases better than RH....
Roy Halladay was the best pitcher in baseball for a decade. If he's not a HOFer, I don't know who is.
I'd be shocked if Halladay doesn't eventually make the HOF. What pitchers that are likely to hit the ballot around his time are going to have a better shot? I can't think of any. Edit: I can actually think of one. Mariano Rivera will make it on the first ballot.

Because he's not very good? He does 1 thing really well and that's hit HRs, other than that he doesn't get on base, hit for average, run or play very good defense. He's not likely to get much better at 28 years old and the Angels desperately need pitching help so if they can trade him for a good pitcher or two it would be worth it.
Because he's a hacker with power. Basically a little bit better version of Jeff Francoeur. Trumbo is one of the most overrated players in baseball. When I seen he would be the center piece of a package for Price, I knew that wouldn't happen. He's not the Rays type of player.
Atleast Carlos Pena provided good defense. You guys still let him go even with that.. Trumbo defintely isnt a Rays type of player.
