It's standard/normal. The team never announces they have an agreement with a player until after he takes and passes his physical. Otherwise they are forced to sign that player even in the event something turns up in the physical.

Just look at the McCann time line, they agreed to the deal on November 23rd but didn't officially announce it until yesterday. Ditto for Ellsbury, they came to terms on Tuesday but it still hasn't officially been announced by the team.

Marlins are close to signing Garrett Jones to a 2 year deal. I actually wouldn't mind if the Sox made a play for Morrison for 1B if they can't resign Napoli. Morrison makes sense for a team like TB as well.

Ellsbury deal is for 7/148 + a 5M buyout or a 21M 8th year option. There is no comparison on who the better value is. Im certainly not expecting the 84 homers Grandy combined to hit in 2011 and 2012 but if he simply replicates his detroit numbers then hes still a better value unless Ellsbury replicates his 2011 season each year of that contract.

Now if the Mets can find a 1B and void their deal with Chris Young Id be ecstatic. :pointlol:

He will steal bases in the NL. The Yankees just dont run; they even limit Gardner. The NYY teams the last few years were very much a base to base team. Single, advance 90 feet. Every single time. They wait for a 2 or 3 run homer. Its not a bad way to play but it will limit a players stolen base opportunities. I expect to see Granderson hitting 20 homers and 20 steals most of those years not belting 35 homers.

Supposedly Phillips is off the market. Not sure you want a 2B owed 4 years and 55M or so coming off his lowest OPS season in 5 years or so when he just spent the last season hitting cleanup behind one of the top 5 or so hitters in baseball, Joey Votto.

Yes the Yankees do and will be willing to take on the whole salary, so shut up just in case Randy Levine and/or one of the Steinbrothers are reading this thread.

In that case you should have been hoping for the Yankees to resign Cano to an 8 or 10 year deal so he could keep hitting 213 every postseason.

At first I did want the Yankees to sign Cano to an insane contract, but once they gave one to Ellsbury I wanted Cano to leave them.

Assuming the Yankees sign Choo and Infante, their entire team is going to be made up of free agent signings. LOL.

Well yeah, not everyone obviously. But a majority and a majority of their core players.

God I love hating that team.

I don't see how they don't. They need a second baseman and they want more fire power in the OF.

Wrong! Both him and Gardner had green lights anytime they wanted. They just didn't go. It was infuriating to watch. Granderson still strikes out way too much and is beginning to become best friends with the DL.

Lately everyone on your team was best friends with the DL. It was beginning to resemble the Mets. Grandy has always been a high strikeout guy so that doesnt surprise me. He was definitely trying for the short porch too much and teams adjusted and started pitching him away. That he and Gardner always had green lights simply wasnt true. Plus you cant run when you play base to base baseball like the Yankees have done the last few years.

I'm expecting a Granderson from Detroit if he stays healthy. Short porch at Yankee Stadium messes with hitters. He knows he won't be hitting 40 home runs at Citi. It will benefit him and will probably cut down on his strike outs too.

Granderson had 25 steals a couple years ago. What was the different between his last full season and his 25 steal season.

In 07 he had 26, thats his highest total. In '11 he had 25, in between 10, 12, 11, 20, 8, He has 122 stolen bases in 10 years....that breaks down to 12 a year. That's not exactly production from a speedy guy. I just dont see him swiping that many. He played 160 games in 2012 and he only swiped 10 bases. He always had a green light.

Hate the 3rd year. Yes this lineup looks nice on paper but damn the ages of the players and the years being given are insane. I guess Gardner is going to get traded and Wells DFA during ST.

Love the Sox resigning Napoli to only a 2 year deal for 32 million total. Napoli was actually offered 3 years and 40ish million from Texas but took the Sox offer because he loved Boston so much. It's nice seeing guys taking less to go where they want to.

All the Sox need to do is sign a RHH 4th OFer (maybe Rajai Davis) and a utility INFer and call it an offseason as far as signing guys.

Yeah I like the Beltran signing except that 3rd year. I wonder if it was a desperation move by the Yankees since they lost out on Cano.

On the flip side do the Yankees have any draft picks until the 2nd or 3rd round now? They lost their 1st round pick for signing McCann, lost another one with Ellsbury and now Beltran. I know they get one for Cano and Granderson but I read in a few spots they would lose those sandwich picks if they sign more FAs with QO.

EDIT: Mark Feinsand confirmed on Twitter that the Yankees will lose their sandwich picks due to the signing of Ellsbury and Cano. For their 1st pick, as of right now, will be in the 2nd round.

I don't like the 3rd year either, but I would rather have that than Choo for 150M over 5-6 years....All the comp picks are gone, ugh... That Napoli deal when you look at the 2 years he got added to last years 1 year deal equals to exactly what the original 3 year deal was. The Sox took care of him in the end.....

He's actually getting an extra 6 million. The original deal was 3/39, last year with all the bonuses it ended up being 13 million. So in the end he's getting a 3 year 45 million dollar deal.

It doesn't appear that Napoli took less. The annual contract for the Sox is greater, unless I am missing something. Napoli isn't as noble as you make him out to be.
